Amber Fuller Looked at the two employees over her desk that was covered in new paperwork they had just dropped off, her face screaming of disbelief.

The short annoying dwarf had a smug look on his face. He sat there wearing a grin that could only be described as condescending. His body took over the chair in a swaggering attitude. This was definitely not the same dwarf who slunk out of here a mere two weeks ago.

The elvish woman beside him however looked like a canary in a cage surrounded by cats.

There was something going on here, and she was not going to let these two ruin her career, or even her day!

Once again, Amber went over the paperwork before her. Slowly, with utmost scrutiny.

And yet, everything looked to be in order.

How then…

Miss Fuller looked up from the paperwork eyeing the dwarf with a stern gaze that could bore through the thickest of arc-steel. Yet he still did not budge one iota. And he certainly kept his gaze appropriate. Instead, he seemed to grow even more sure of himself.

Amber felt she needed to get down to the bottom of this, or it could mean her head as well as theirs.

“You’re sure you informed them of All the pertinent information? You left nothing out? They made an informed decision? You did not coerce them in any way? You did not charm them, or use magic to twist their minds…”

The dwarf across the desk from her threw up his hands in a calming motion.

“Whoa, relax! Everything is on the up and up. I explained everything. They were well aware their lives would be drastically changed forever by their move. I explained where their new home was. I left out no required information!” The short man took a breath.

“They even, unlike those sent to the reincarnation department, were given the choice to relocate.” He finished with an almost arrogant dismissive wave of his newly manicured hand.

Amber had never seen the dwarf quite so confidant and sure of himself. She sat up leaning back into her chair, leaning it slightly into a back reclined position. She folded her hands into her lap regarding the ceiling losing herself deep in thought.

Amber missed Wen wipe a bit of sweat away that had started to roll down from her right temple, and the side look the dwarf shot Wen.

Leaning forward after a short time Amber placed her hands on her desk. She picked up the paperwork and tapped the pile onto the desk forming it into a neat pile.

“Very well you two. I shall forward everything to collections. The landowners will be made aware of the new purchases. The two ladies and the gentleman will receive notice of current tax rates, and whom to make loan payments to.” She once again looked distinctly between the two before her. “And I hope you at least chose homes for these new residents that they would not be taken advantage of? The last thing I want to hear from the higher ups that the three of them were thrown into slavery because some corrupt landowner was just looking to make a quick profit.”

“Well,” Began the dwarf. “I for one made sure my clients were located into their dream property and that the landowner was on the up and up.”

Miss Fuller gave him a nod. Though she kept a mask of complete neutrality.

Wen quickly added. “My client, John, was also located in a safe environment. He is located not far from the two ladies, on Baron Kails domains.”

Amber nodded at Wen. She was acquainted with Baron Kails and his family. While not from rich stock, he was a good man that worked his way into Barony by creating a very successful mercantile. He was deemed a wise landowner, with a good heart. He had three smart children to succeed him. It would seem her two struggling employees had done a fine job this time around. And who knows, maybe the two of them could save their jobs and this department after all.

Mel sat forward looking Amber in the eye with a steely visage, very uncharacteristic of him.

“Now about our health care?”

“Yes, yes. I will inform the company about this turn of events. It may take a bit of time, but I am sure we will be able to use some of the revenue to reinstate your health care.” Amber almost rolled her eyes at Mel. “I see you are not up in arms about your poor nail anymore at least.”

“OH, well, you see, I was able to get a great deal on furnishings in our office. So, I used a portion of that. They have some wonderful aestheticians there. Even with their lack of magic.” Mel looked at his newly repaired and polished nails with pride.

Wen shot the dwarf a dark look, as she was just finding out that their poor state of affairs was partly due to the fact Mel had held back funds for his damn fetish.

Amber shook her head at the dwarfs’ antics. “Yes,” She began with a flat tone. “The green polish really suits your skin tone.”

“Doesn’t it though!” Mel shot back with glee turning his hands this way and that admiring his new look, totally not reading the room.

The next day in an office very similar to Amber Fuller's, sat a man with a small stack of paperwork in front of him.

His office, while similar, was quite a bit larger with the addition of two sitting couches and a low table between them. Atop the table was a very posh tea set for four that just screamed of snobbery.

In fact, every piece of furniture was of the highest quality and style that could be acquired in this reality of worlds. Some of the higher ups in the company liked a more sterile look. More of a modern world’s look. This man’s office, however, was much more in line with old world tastes. Lots of wood, and thick, soft cushions. His desk was fashioned from a solid piece of black-stone wood. The walls covered with solid deep red wood, the slats running diagonally. The whole place smelled more like the woods than that of a modern office.

After reading through the papers the man sat back sinking deep into his regal chair, staring unbelievably at the ceiling of his office.

“They actually managed a…” then he looked back down at the paperwork. “No two sales.”

After staring across his room in a daze for gods knew how long he came back to himself.

“This has to be a joke.” He whispered to himself. ‘Was the house hunter portion of the company filing false paperwork to stall their demise?’ he asked himself mentally.

“Well only one way to find out.”

He pressed a button on the intercom that was totally out of place in this room. After all, he even used a pen shaped like a quill to maintain the ambiance.

“Yes sir?” A male voice emanated to him from one of the very few modern furnishings.

“Max, I need to speak to Miss Fuller from the housing department. Please have her come see me at once and clear some time in my schedule.”

“Right away sir.” The calm voice replied from the other end.
