《War Beast》Book Two: Chapter 11

Jenny screamed until something metal and cold grabbed her leg before her face touched the floor. When she looked up, she saw a saucer probe pulling her up. Sure the machine saved her life, but only to bring her back to Cluster. And he planned to do worse things to her if he gets his claws on her.
Jenny reached for the metal tentacle around her ankle, but her arms were too short. While hanging upside down, she could feel the blood rushing into her skull.
"Jenny, hold on!" Huntar sprinted across the conveyor belt until he jumped off and landed on the probe.
The machine stopped and raised its other tentacle toward the lion man. He banged on the machine with his sword, and then the probe dropped Jenny.
She fell, screaming again, but she landed on a moving conveyor belt. Her back arched in pain, although she could still get up.
After she rubbed her back, a metal arm brought down a saucer shell above her. She immediately leaped to the side, dodging the shell. Next, another arm placed a metal sphere into the hole inside the center of the saucer. Then four arms lowered down, welding the sphere to stay inside the saucer. Jenny shielded her eyes from the sparks.
After the robotic arms finished, Jenny stared at the fully built probe. She kicked it to make sure it wasn’t alive. Since it was just built, the probe didn’t flinch.
Jenny sighed until she noticed the moving track was reaching the end of the belt, where the other finished probes fell into a pipe, standing from the floor.
“Oh, no!” Before she reached the end, Huntar’s arms caught her as he flew over the belt. He was swinging while holding onto a metal tentacle beneath a probe with a smashed top.

After he let go, Jenny and he landed on a giant platform, floating at the center of the factory. Conveyor belts moved around them like snakes making mechanic noises.
"Are you alright?" Huntar asked. "My most humble apology for dropping you.”
Jenny smiled. "I'm fine. There are plenty of robots here who want me."
Huntar raised an eyebrow. "Want you?"
Before Jenny opened her mouth, hundreds of saucer probes rose around the platform. There were so many, they looked like a metal wall, trapping Huntar and Jenny.
Jenny placed her back against Huntar’s, facing the machines. "Any plans?"
Huntar growled. "We fight until we die! "
"Hey! I don't want to die!"
“Better than running!”
Jenny rubbed her face. "Sometimes you are too overdramatic."
"You have a better plan?"
Jenny glanced around, but all she could see were the robots circling the platform. If they attack, Huntar will not last in one second. Fighting was his thing, but dying in a battle was pointless. What would be the point of fighting if you die instantly? Fighting was about survival, not throwing your life away. Maybe Jenny could reason with Cluster without losing her friend. Better to try than let her foolish friend die.
Jenny sprinted to Huntar’s front and waved her arms up. "Hey! We surrender!"
"What are you doing?" The lion asked.
"Drop your sword!" Jenny whispered. "You can trust me!"
Huntar shrugged and dropped his sword.
Jenny continued, waving her arms out. "We surrender! We surrender!"

Cluster watched his runway human specimen waved to him behind his screen.
"We surrender!" the human girl cried.
Cluster laughed.
It seemed the female realized it was inevitable for her to escape from his base. And her primitive companion realized that too. If the animal tried to attack, his probes would vaporize him without giving him the chance to fight back.

Victory to me! Cluster pushed his pincer on a button below the screen. "Fall back, but watch them!"
His probes hovered back while still aiming their red lights at the intruder. If the human wanted to surrender, she needed to face him first.
Cluster turned around and crawled toward the back door. First, he needed to put his suit on in case the female's animal tried to do something funn

Jenny sighed while watching the probes levitated back without attacking. Her plan worked.
"Now what? " Huntar asked with his arms up.
"We wait," Jenny whispered, while keeping her hands up.
"Wait?"
"Those things will not let us go still. I think they are waiting for Cluster."
“Who is this Cluster?”
"He is an alien, controlling this place."
"What's an alien?"
Jenny sighed. "He's from another world. Not here."
"Oooooooh!"
At the top, a figure hovered down, growing bigger and bigger until Jenny released it as a giant robot.
The machine landed in front of Huntar and Jenny, about 20 feet tall. Humanoid in a bulky form with a jet pack on its back, coated in purple and silver thick armor, and it has a green bubble glass dome head on top.
Jenny gulped.
A thing that big could tear down a building with a dozen punches. Surrendering to the alien was probably a bad decision.
"You surrender?" A loud electronic voice shouted from the robot's speaker on its board chest.
Jenny beamed her eyes at the machine. "Cluster?"
The bubble head opened, revealing the alien crab sitting in a small control cockpit. His pincers hold on to two joysticks, sticking up from the control panel below him. "This is my bodysuit. We Krawls use them to conquer whatever we can conquer. It makes us mighty and strong!"
"I can see that," Jenny replied.
"Krawl? I thought he is an alien," Huntar whispered.
"Same thing."
Cluster closed the bubblehead and crossed his gigantic metal arms. "So you surrender, correct?"
"Yes!" Jenny shouted.
"On what terms?"
"Let my friend go and I will do whatever you say."
Huntar stared at her in shock. "What?"
"Trust me!" Jenny whispered.
The giant robot suit glanced around. "I see nothing that can stop me from killing your animal. Click click click! Both of you are in my mercy now."
Jenny gulped again. I knew surrendering is a bad idea!

Entangled Fates Book 1 - Quantum Beginnings
“By far, the greatest danger of Artificial Intelligence is that people conclude too early that they understand it.” —Eliezer Yudkowsky Hey all, we're moving over to book 2. This content is in a state of transition. The book is now availble on Amazon (includes extra chapters): https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B07W1534R8 Artificial intelligence was nearly mankind’s last invention. AI took off like a rocket, then when it racked up an impressive death toll, it crashed before it could blossom and took most high-tech industries with it. Resistance and fears became deep-set. Two decades after the infamous Rev. 4.6 incidents, humanity hasn’t quit dreaming of the wealth and power that could be at their fingertips. A new generation of mega-corporations rose from the ashes. When one melds a quantum computer to a barely functional mental patient as a PR move, there are those who seek to profit, those who want to destroy it, and Alex. Alex Sage is a typical college student trying to keep up his grades and maybe find a meaningful connection with the fairer sex. Then, an automated semi crashes into his home, killing his family and turning his head into a pin cushion in the process. Alex awakens to find most of his memories gone and an illegal AI hidden in his brain implant. Now the pet project of a tech billionaire and heavily in debt, Alex struggles to stay valuable enough to be kept online. Still grappling with the repercussions of his injuries, and threats from a dangerous anti-augmentation political movement, there are no easy answers and threats loom around every corner. Alex must use whatever resources he can to escape from under the thumb of a ruthless corporation, while keeping those he comes to love safe. Chapters will stay up on RRL until Aug 10. It'll go up on Kindle Unlimited after that. How do you get those extra chapters I didn't have planned for RR? If you want them, they'll be in the published book. Book 2 will still make sense without them - I made sure of that. But... isn't $3 a lot for extra chapters? Think of it as tipping me for a good job and you'd also be getting my eternal thanks. If you enjoyed it so much that the idea of missing out a few chapters haunts you, I did my job as an author and made an engaging story. What's in those extra chapters? Resolving a few issues, set up for the cybernetic revolution, a rather intense sex scene with a new partner, revelations of who's really pulling strings, and a bit of set up for book 2. Complaints that people missed out on it when it was published here won't help (sorry!). I posted this for the folks who helped me shape the book, which is you all! (Again, yay!) But... Why! Why not keep it all on RR forever? My editor likes being paid for one. For two, I'd like the ability to get broader readership. If I break even on editor costs, I'll be incredibly happy. What about book 2? Drafts for Book 2 will go up around Sept 10. My draft of Book 2 is done, and it will be handed to the editor once Book 1 is published. Feedback has been even more positive. Beta readers devoured it and wanted more. I'll add a link to Book 2 once it's up on RR. I'm more or less, using you all for Beta Readers, so you get it before it's "canon" and edited. I invite active and meaningful feedback during this process. In return, you get early access to chapters. That does mean that the book content or plot might be adjusted before it gets published as I refine it. Sex Y/N? Yes. I heard the feedback, 90% wanted it explicit. You all will get the "full" experience. Will I dump all of book 2 here? Honestly, I'm not sure yet. At a minimum, it'll be up to the 75% mark as we collect feedback, much like what I did with book 1. It really depends on how good the feedback is and how nice people are. Lots of support + meaningful feedback to make it better = higher likelihood you get all the book. Will be it up here indefinitely? No, it'll probably go up on KU at some point, but I'll make sure there's enough time for a large readership to grab it here. Then we move to book 3 which already is around 60K words already. What about other adventures in the same universe/characters? Yep. Absolutely. Nothing ready to share yet though. I plan to keep those side chapters and more slice of life stories as RR exclusive. Since I'm carving this off in book-sized segments, I'll have to figure out where those disconnected story arcs belong. I'm open to suggestions.

Penance's Pursuit
This future sci-fi fantasy follows the progression of a few main characters as they navigate their unique spheres of life in the year 2242. The story focuses heavily on themes of guilt, personal failing, and penance. The conflict revolves around two main concepts: Man vs. Himself (Internal conflict) and Man vs Man (External conflict). The internal conflicts focus on many of the characters' inner demons and how each of them deal with the scars of the past. The external conflict centers around a mysterious criminal organization called Nexus that conducts human trafficking. There are three groups of main characters. The first group belong to a vigilante mercenary organization called Ab Aeterno. Titus, Venna, and Benjamin are Achilles team. This team is a part of Ab Aeterno's special forces branch which is designated Demon Stalkers. Their goal and mission is to perform assassinations, abductions, and destabilization operations on criminal organizations throughout the solar system. Their current mission places them directly in the path of Nexus. Titus interacted with them in his past and they seem to have unlimited reach, resources, and power. As the team faces this threat, old wounds will surface and dangerous connections to the past will emerge. The second group of characters are on the Mars colony. Randal Page is an analyst for a talent scout company on Mars. He is faced with the reality that the company he thought he was working for is in fact Nexus. His story centers around his coming to realize the duplicity of the company he works for and then his response to the startling realization of his own ignorant involvement. Also on Mars is a woman named FaRarra Njokko. She is a Nexus sex slave in a brothel on Mars and is known by the stage name of Stardust. She is striving to escape when her path crosses with Randal. The final main character is Preston Coretel. He is a monk with a mysterious and shady past. He is on the run from Nexus in more ways than one. He is seeking sanctuary on an abandoned monastery space station in order to avoid agents of Nexus and to atone for his previous involvement with Nexus.

The Event Master
It is a reincarnation/transmigration story where the MC can only do magic that is socially condemned, but is protected somewhat by his powerful political station. For as long as he can keep it, anyway. With a little luck and some modern world thinking, perhaps he'll come up with something to change people's minds. Not forcefully though, that would be unethical. ** The MC is not a fighter. He's a gamer. He loves rpgs, movies, modern music, and telling stories. I intend to post at least once a week in the range of 2k words. If work eases up I'll increase the amount again. ((Work has instead intensified to the point where I'm struggling to get a chapter every two weeks. I'll pick it back up properly when I can, but for now it is on temporary hiatus while I still might post every once and awhile. This winter, I plan to go back to regular posts until the story finishes.))
