《Heretic Immortal》Chapter 12: Sick Head

"Ok, then we are expecting them outside the gate in two hours. You can go."
As the meeting ended and the chiefs returned to notify their villages about the gathering of the men, old Wan looked at the face of the seated young man that became heavy and stressed.
"If I could raise my rank, I would not be forced to do this. I could take most of the bandits on my own."
"In war, the power of a single person can rarely count, as the enemy will always take measures to match or to put you in a disadvantageous position. Either way, if they want to continue living in these regions, they need to be more than just some wild mountainous villagers."
For as the meeting was over and the villagers were moving to select those that could be sent to the training meeting, little Levis was waking from his fast sleep while being full of energy as though having slept for a full day.
"Again, it feels like I barely have slept. This is strange. Why is my body so sensitive to everything-- I feel so full of energy. I could run over a mountain and back. Am I sick? Is this the last moment of strength before dying that grandma Hel has spoken off? No, this shouldn't be "inhaling" she had not said anything about getting a good feeling from breathing. Ahhh, why is my heart so loud?"
[Ahhhh, kid, you'll never arrive anywhere like that.]
“Yes, what? Who?”
But as he turned around to see for the owner of the voice that he had answered involuntarily, he noticed no one in the tent, empty and unopened, as a questioning frown appeared on his face.
[You won't go anywhere like this, you need to understand what is happening with your body.]

“What, who is talking? Show your face?”
As he was looking frantically left and right to see who the speaker was, he was at a loss at the words that were coming into his head.
[No need to search for anybody, I am nowhere because I am in your head.]
“What!?”
As the reaction of little Levis could be seen to be one of shock, and as he was not able to comprehend the meaning of the words immediately, his face gradually became one of anxiety as words that reminded him of his grandma came into his mind.
“In my head? Aa-m-am, I am sick in the head. Is this the sickness of the head that grandma Hel was speaking when grandpa was talking all alone?”
[What sickness, you're the one sick, I am not part of your consciousness, you damn brat, I just reside in your head.]
“Reside? You mean you live in my head.”
[Yes.]
“Then can you go away from my head?”
[Y-yyy-uuuuu ffff--. Ahhhh you brat, do you think I'm in your head because I like it?]
“Then why are you in my head?”
[ I was just about to explain to you, but you had to do this whole-- ok, now do not freak out anymore, I am about to explain what is happening to your body, so focus and don’t lose your temper, ok.]
“Ok, mister sickness.”
[YOU DAMN BRAT, YOU ARE ASK--.]
[Now, now, let's all calm down and take a breath.]
[You stay out, don’t make the situation more complicated!]
[Things are already complicated, how much more difficult can they get with me here? It is you who can not keep the temper instead, so I’ll do the talk first so you can get the second part.]

[Alright, your temper is more acclimated towards this, explain the situation. I got the cultivation part.]
As the two voices were conversing in little Levis's head, his face became paler by the moment as fear was gripping him.
“Two---two voices. Who are you? Another sickness?”
[Hahahhaaha, no, my little chosen one, I am your Master.]
“Master? AaaahhhHHH, I am no one's animal. I know what masters are. They are those people that use other people like animals.”
[Haa!-- animals? Aaa, you mean slaves, no not like that, the kind that has disciples to pass their knowledge and craft, you know?]
“Disciple, you mean like aunt and grandma Hel?”
[Yes, something like that.!? Ahamm, Fate has put us to be Master and disciple, as I was-- I was--]
[Traveling.]
[Yes, traveling. I have met you as I was traveling. After all, fate works in mysterious ways.]
[ [ Don't tell everything, or we’ll stay here ages as this kid is really slow to understand things.] ]
[ [Alright.] ]
“Fate?”
[Yes, fate as I was resting at the river, you came to me while dying out, and so I saved your life, but in exchange, I had to do a very-- secret technique--and forsaken my body, now only my mind--soul remains to guide you.]
[ [You talk about the universe's fate and mystery but still lie in the face of your chosen one.] ]
“You--you did-- wait, I DIED”
[Yes]
“Wait, why was I dying?”
[Aaa, you didn't feel the arrow in your chest? Just a sliver higher, and it would pierce your heart. Look at your clothes, and you can see the hole in the front and back]
As little Levis took off his upper garment, and took a close inspection at the numerous cuts and holes, a particular hole could be seen as it pierced both the front and back of his tunic.
“How did this happen?”
[You're asking me? I should be the one to ask you! But fate is clearly at work, for it had wanted you to come to me and become my disciple.]
Still bewildered by the more and more strange things and unsure what to think or make of the strange voices, little Levis started to debate whether he should get help or listen to the voices in his head.
[Hey, why have you got silent, greet me as your master, that is the normal way, right?]
[ [Right?] ]
[ [I think so. I don't remember well, but that should be the case.] ]
[So, now chosen one, relentless one, greet me, and I shall guide you toward a myriad of things that you can not even imagine.]
“Can you wait?”

The Ascendant: Endless Reincarnation
My name is Richard Brooks. I died while saving a kid. Kicking the bucket at 28 was really depressing, you know? There’s so much I still wanted to do. But instead of passing on, I was thrust into an endless series of reincarnations. Whenever I die, I earn Karma points based on my achievements and growth. These points can be exchanged for weapons, spells, or other bonuses to make my next lives more interesting. “What kills me only makes me stronger!” Or something like that. Honestly, it feels like I’m stuck in an RPG. The difficulty setting can be pretty ridiculous too. Sometimes all I can do is grit my teeth in frustration as I die an ignoble death. But I won’t complain. Even when it’s dangerous and painful, I love life. This is all an opportunity; I’ll do my best, no matter what kind of sadistic fate the System throws at me. I will swing the warhammer of justice! Craft and enhance the most amazing artifacts! Overwhelm opponents with a barrage of auto-casting spells! Lead powerful vassals in Domain wars! All for the sake of creating an eternal sanctuary. With my unique power of Runecrafting, maybe I’ll even become strong enough one day to overturn fate… or at least find out what the hell is really going on. It might take a few hundred or a thousand lifetimes, but what’s the rush? I have all the time in the world now. (Note: R15+ This is the work of a very inexperienced author with a full time job. Please expect an erratic release schedule.)
