《Sting Them to Death》Interlude - Hope

She remembers when everything wasn’t so suffocating.
When everything seem so simple and when they could run around in the grassy plain with the warm summer sun beaming down on them without a care in the world, chasing after their friends.
And when mom would call for them to come back home for dinner when it start getting dark.
Then, everything changed for the worst.
She could feel the once gentle sun turn harsh, burning their skins, see the grass withering away and soil below turning into sands.
People scream in pain as they felt their skin being melted off their bodies and then their insides as well turning them into nothing more than puddles of liquid.
They saw animals mutating into gigantic monsters that went on damage-causing even more death and destruction.
And amid all this chaos, walked what she thought before she thought was a man dressed in clothes of fine silk, like that of a noble before she saw his face, which was covered with eyes.
It wasn’t a human or a monster but a demon.
It was tall, lanky, and was hunched over with arms that were slightly touching the ground, hands that had sharp claws.
Its eyes looked around the chaos before noticing her. She shivered and swore that she could feel the demon smiling even though it didn’t have a mouth as it casually walk over to her with all of its eyes zeroing in on her.
She tried to run but found herself stuck in place, no matter how hard. The monster stops right in front of her and looks down.
“Oh you’re just perfect~,” The demon said, its voice sounding slimmer than that of a slime, deeper than that of a toad’s croak, and was downright inhuman. “To think that someone like you would be here, I must be blessed,” It continues it sounding happier with each word it said, not noticing her shivering and on verge of tears as she looked down the ground, trying not to meet its gaze.

Then her vision went dark and she awoke in a cage.
Now, it hurt to even breathe and it felt as if thousand hot needles were piercing their body at once, their limbs being crushed over and over again.
All she could see was darkness as she could not see and all she can hear is the constant screams for help that will never be answered, feeling bit by bit her humanity slipping away.
She wish that this would all just stop, that she would be able to rest and be free from all of this suffering.
But no matter how much she begs, pleads, or wishes, she would always be stuck in this cage.
However, it would seem that something has changed, she could it. After all, the screams for help were a little now. Not by much, but it was quieter than used to be.
Maybe, just maybe, she would be free soon, finally being able to rest.

The Essence of Cultivation
After experiencing five years of an adventurer's life, Arcanist Sylar Wershin now spends his days catching up on developments in Essence Studies and teasing apart the functions of arcane trinkets and artifacts discovered by him and his companions throughout their time travelling the realms of Resham. An unexpected accident during the study of his latest subject of intrigue, however, displaces him across the Planes beyond what any known spell is capable of achieving. Now finding himself lost in a realm rich in previously-limited Transcendental Essences, however, does he truly even want to return back to his old world? If nothing else, plagiarising - ahem, learning new spell structures by observing the local mages should prove entertaining. Sure, there were new dangers in this foreign world, but they wouldn't be anything a fancy bit of spellwork couldn't solve. Though, he would appreciate it greatly if someone could explain to him just what this 'cultivation' business was, why the local Mages were all muscle-brained freaks obsessed with immortality, and why they all seemed to lack any appreciation for the finer details of Essence manipulation. That would be nice.

How The Weak Live
This was a rough draft. Quite a meh one. The newer version is These Games of Ours. ---------- Lucious is deserter among many, living by dagger and beggary. Argento’s thirst for knowledge is endless, as is his belly. Kora is the perfect soldier, yet her sword grows dull in monotony. Formally known as the Empire's legend, the Captain is now stuck in stagnation. The Gods, grown weary of human deeds, have decided to indulge themselves in a different way. -------------- THE 7 REALLY IMPORTANT STUFF Clichés shall be avoided like the cancerous tumors they are. The world shall not spread its pink butt cheeks for the main character’s convenience. No character shall be thinner than one slice of white American cheese. No female character shall serve to highlight how overpowered and fabulous the main character is. No villain shall serve to highlight how overpowered and fabulous the main characters are. Grammar laws shall be upheld sometimes. I, the author, swear not to be a prick. I, the author, swear not to go away without warning. If other LitRPGs are like Skyrim, then this is going to be a combination of Dark Souls and Total War. Don't expect action for the sake of action. Be warned, this is a slow novel. Read the reviews to see if this novel is a decent fit for you. Disclaimer: I do not own that gorgeous cover art.
