《dreadnaught: scifi apocalypses space marine》chapter 17: looking for allies

Within twenty minutes another twenty people were with them. One group of eight, including Jake, was from his old unit in the marines. Or those that could and would join him. Another seven were with Jasmine and their daughter Julie. Who are the spouses or children of those that Jake called. David could picture that group before could have been upwards of thirty or more before the update. That and David giving a hard limit of fifty years old. Unless given a good reason.
The last six were not human. As Jake called his old unit up, David asked Four a few questions. One is will they be grouped together during the scavenging portion. Which was a no. They will spawn with whatever group they are fractioned with from their home region. Which meant Marry would be joining them, but not Jasmine. Another is if he could contact those of different worlds. Which led David on a search for those standing in front of him and his two friends and Marry.
“ Greetings representatives of your groups. I am David Warright. The leader and financier of the group I hope to form. To my sides are John Richard on my left and Rick and Marry Lorn on my right...”
The two to David’s left that looked like elves in business suits sneered as they looked at David’s other guests.
“ You allow these animals here... I should...”
Before the elf said another word David had withdrawn his permission to be here.
“ I will not allow bigotry. There is an entire universe of people who will be more than happy to be in your spots.”
With a look of anger, the other elf left on their own. This caused the pair of short people to laugh hard.
“ That will show them pointy ears.”

That caught David’s attention.
“ Are we going to have a problem?”
The gruff man, David guessed by the voice, laughed again before wiping his hand on his trousers and offering it to David to take. Which he did by the wrist.
“ Ah, a proper man at last. Too bad we can not have food or drink here, this occasion calls for a stout ale.”
David smiles hearing that.
“ I agree, but let us make our home so we can properly break it in first shall we.”
This caused the short man to laugh again. More out of joy than mockery.
“ Aye lad, but I am being rude. As you know I am Silve Ironforge and this is my first wife, Marqe. We have two hundred capable miners, masons, and smiths and another fifty not so in the clan and can contribute half a billion credit.”
David nods to his new friend and gives the man a stern shake again before letting go.
“ Master Ironforge, I plan on not just a simple mine or keep. I plan on a fortress. A citadel a dragon will gaze upon in envy of its wealth. One that it would never dare try to take for it will know only death awaits those that attack my Order.”
This gave the short man the chance to laugh once again. This however allowed David to turn to the mound of muscle that was a wolf walking on two legs. Standing at a good eight feet tall, his other guests were what some might call werewolves or lycans.
“ Greetings, tribe leader Gark. And this is your mate as well?”
To David’s surprise, it was the slightly smaller and feminine sounding one to speak.
“ Do not mind him so much. He is evaluating your place as an alpha. I am Loa, his life mate. It came as a surprise, that is, the request of yours for us. We do not deal often with humans or elves.”

A snort of laughter came from the two dwarves.
“ I am missing something aren't I?”
“ Aye laddy. Our three groups are from the same world. I am guessing yours did not have more than one sentient race on it.”
David shook his head to his short friend.
“ No, if we did, they probably died out centuries ago. Way before my time.”
This caused the four of them to nod in understanding as Loa spoke again.
“ Yes, that explains much. Still, we find humans more open-minded than elves. In any case, our small tribe is about half as many as the dwarves, but we are hunters and gatherers, farmers, and leather workers. We can even build wooden structures. And we are not as rich as them either, but we make up for it in our practical applications of food and survivability.”
David nods to this.
“ And I and my people bring knowledge of how to build cities that can house millions. Of culture, you could scarcely imagine. Of medicines that can cure... well you get the idea.”
This caused the dwarves to laugh again. Even Loa and Gark smiled a little.
“ Other than a long list of technology and patents I plan on obtaining, I personally am providing ten billion to this venture.”
This caused the four in front of him to have their jaws drop. Even Gark took a step back in surprise.
Rick, however, grabbed his shoulder.
“ So, David, where have you been hiding that kind of scratch? Because I am not going to believe you just pulled that number out of your ass for no reason.”
David laughed a little and gestured to the smiling white man.
“ Ah, I see it best if I answer that question. First off, the universe does not care for your legal matters. A figure close to seventy-five million dollars was held digitally while two marriage lawsuits were settled. Add that to all his physical and banked assets and you have a modest nine figures in the value of Dollars. Now we convert that number into credits. Which is roughly one hundred and twelve per American Dollar.”
Rick and John started laughing, one of them mentioning something about the rich getting richer under their breath when David asked Four another question.
“ All right, Four. Now for the first duzy. Now can you tell us what would happen if a country was in debt when the update started?”

She awakens in A'lara City a few days later and recuperates under the steadfast care of her repentant friend Jorn.As she reacclimates to her waking state, Larin struggles with her gruesome memories of the Hells and her decision to conceal them from Jorn. This story answers the question, Is Larin all right? with a resounding yes, and some storms on the horizon. It also raises the question, What happened to her down there? and includes an excerpt from the sister story Falling Down, about Larin's ordeal in the Nine Hells.
