《Let's Play: Chronicles of Zurefgar》Intermission: Classes

Classifying the available classes, pun intended, is a rather complicated matter. It depends on how you want to see them. A lot of games that I have played would divide classes based on their role like tank, bruisers, damage dealer, healer, and utility or support.
Due to the existence of paths and custom abilities which can alter the nature of a class, Zurefgar tends to not divide the classes per role. Instead, the classes are divided into four groups which are fighter, spellcaster, attacker, and unique which can fulfil the three earlier types depending on their path.
Fighters are usually those who fight in melee range at the frontline and wear either mail or plate armour. Usually people call this group the warrior-type classes. I cannot blame them for doing so, considering the group only has warrior, tempest paladin, guardian paladin, and avenger. Logically speaking paladins are just warriors with holy power and avengers are just warriors with dark power.
Spellcasters are mainly those who cast magic. Shocker.
They consist of wizards, warlock, and priests who generally use cloth-based equipment. For me, it is kind of funny to limit spellcasters to these classes. I mean, paladins and avengers cast spells as well, do they not?
Anyway, it gets more odd when we talk about attackers which are the only group that is based on their role as a damage dealer. Both hunters and rogues can only function well as physical damage dealers. They might have some tricks under their sleeves which increase their utility, but they are basically just damage dealers… physical damage dealers.
I count poison as physical for biology reasons.
The two unique classes, which happen to be unique to certain races, are shamans and mystics. The forms and paths taken by these two can easily shift their position from fighter to spellcaster. The most annoying part is that both classes enable their players to change roles just by resetting their paths and equipment. They do not need to re-level an entirely new character.

Now, that is what I call a cheater class.
By the way, as an example of why the classes are not divided based on role, the fighter group is the best specimen for the explanation. Warriors are not always tanking, some of them are actually a very strong melee damage dealer while there are also those who lean towards offtank or bruiser roles. While most tempest paladin are suited towards melee physical damage dealing, there are those who became a healer, a magic based damage dealer, and even an offtank.
Guardian paladins are also guilty of this as we can choose to be a tank, healer, support, or a bruiser. I have heard rumours that some of us managed to be a full blown magic based damage dealer. Avengers are mostly built towards defence, hence it is not a surprise to see most become a tank or offtank, bruiser, and support. Same case with guardian paladins, rumours have it that there are magic based ranged damage dealing avengers walking among us.
Kinda cool if you ask me. Imagine an undead warrior clad in dark steel, walking slowly while wheezing his breath, then he choke someone from afar using his dark magic… wait, that’s a villain from a certain science fiction franchise.

MeiQ: Lore of the Labyrinth
Omaros City lays near one of several Yggdrasil trees that are scattered around the world. Each tree holds an entire labyrinthine ecosystem within or beneath it, yet the mysteries of their origins and what lays in their depths are only ever unraveled by the most skilled and courageous of explorers. Exploration of Omaros' Yggdrasil labyrinth is still in its fledgling stages, drawing in many with the allure of fame and glory that has yet to be claimed. Enter the harbinger Dubhan—cheerful, determined, and not terribly skilled at thinking ahead—and warlock Allouet— intelligent and resourceful, but desperately in over his head. Together, the two of them have half an idea of what they're doing at best, but that's not going to stop them from aiming for the labyrinth's unknown depths. MeiQ is, at its core, a fanfiction inspired by the Etrian Odyssey franchise, alternatively known as Sekaiju no Meikyuu in Japan. Despite that, it is written with the intent to be enjoyable by those unfamiliar with the series as well. The characters and the city of Omaros are original, while the story draws upon lore and recurring concepts from the game series. However, Etrian Odyssey is known for its lore being sparse and open to speculation, so much of the details provided in this story are exactly that—a fan’s speculation and personal expansion of the lore. This story was also inspired by and written as part of HereBeTreasure's Fast Food Frontpage Competition, enjoy some simple dungeon exploration plot and whatever else pops up from this.
