《Survival in another world is HARD》Chapter 7

Kurushimi was nearly prepared to start her journey and to begin her hunting of the dogs. She had allocated her stat points gained from Lvl. 3-4 in AGI and STR. With her skill『Fangs』, she could easily regenerate her HP, MP and SP whenever she liked so she opted to level up other stats first.
But there was also one other thing Kurushimi was concerned about.
[Kurushimi: Blood magic…
Is too inconvenient!]
For Kurushimi, her only current method of attack was her skill『Blood Magic』. It was a powerful skill that allowed her to control and manipulate blood. It could be used to attack by creating sharp blades of blood and though Kurushimi hadn’t found a way yet, there could also be other ways to utilize the skill to its full potential.
The only problem was that to activate it, she had to actually draw blood. And a significant amount was needed if she wanted to do any damage. Her skill『Fangs』slightly helped out with the issue, allowing her to regenerate her wound after a battle. But Kurushimi wasn’t concerned about that. Quite frankly, she just didn’t like the fact she had to rip open her arm every fight. Ripping open her arm… is very painful after all.
[Kurushimi: I just learnt Appraisal and Farsight and I have 100 skill points left. I could use them to learn another magic skill like Blood magic?]
《Would you like to view a list of currently available magic skills?》
-The system always has really convenient timing eh?
[Kurushimi: Yes.]
《Showing currently available magic skills...》
『Poison magic Lvl. 1』
『Venom magic Lvl. 1』
『Shadow magic Lvl. 1』
『Dark magic Lvl. 1』
『Spectral magic Lvl. 1』
『Curse magic Lvl. 1』
6 skills appeared before Kurushimi. Kurushimi was a little disappointed at the small amount that was available, but she knew she was at a low level and the system had said currently available so there’s a good chance there is more she can learn but she is just too low a level right now.

Other than that… Kurushimi took notice of one more thing.
[Kurushimi: Aren’t these skills following a rather dark theme? I mean… normally there would be fire, or water, or wind... What is with these?]
[Voice-san: It is most likely because of your race. A vampire is counted as a monster and therefore has certain attributes in line with most monsters. While fire magic or water magic are only able to be learnt by a higher class of vampires, certain magic such as holy magic or light magic is impossible to learn.]
Kurushimi learnt another thing just now; the fact that she is a monster. She didn’t really know how to feel about that. Would she be seen as a threat to humans? Would she have to live as an outcast? Do humans even exist in this world?
As Kurushimi’s questions began to get off track, she decided the best thing to do is not think about it. Sometimes, ignorance is bliss.
[Kurushimi: Anyway, back to the skills…
I think I’ve decided what to pick. As for poison and venom, those are a no because I want something that’ll kill the enemy quickly and efficiently. Poison/Venom will take too long!
As for Dark magic, Spectral magic and Curse magic... To be honest I don’t really understand them. I don’t really know what they do and I only have 100 skill points. I’d rather not waste skill points experimenting with them.
And finally…]
Kurushimi opened up the description of the last skill.
《『Shadow magic Lvl. 1』: This allows for the manipulation and weaponization of shadows.》
[Kurushimi: This seems good!]
The main thing Kurushimi was looking for was an easy to use, offensive skill. Shadows are constantly everywhere. In this dark forest, shadows are everywhere for Kurushimi to freely use. Kurushimi felt like it could definitely be really powerful here!

[Kurushimi: But shadows don’t really sound like they’d be strong…
But at the same time, blood doesn’t sound strong yet it ripped apart the dogs very easily!
Alright, we shall learn Shadow magic!]
《Currently you have 100 skill points.》
《The skill 『Shadow magic Lvl. 1』can be acquired by spending 100 skill points.》
《Do you want to acquire it?》
[Kurushimi: Yes, give it to me!]
《『Shadow magic Lvl. 1』 was acquired. Remaining skill points 0》
-Now, time to find some dogs!
. . .
Kurushimi was crouched in a tree on one of its branches. She has managed great feats since coming here such as using magic, and though this wasn’t that great a feat, Kurushimi was still pretty amazed at her ability to climb a tree. Her unathletic body from earth would never be able to do this.
She could now do this due to the increased AGI stat. As to why Kurushimi was currently in a tree, it was because she was scouting out a small group of dogs. She had encountered 4 dogs on their own sitting around and decided to make them her first target.
《Used skill: 『Farsight Lvl. 1』!》
《Used skill: 『Appraisal Lvl. 1』!》
With the skills she had prepared specifically for this occasion, Kurushimi activated them to see the levels of the dogs.
《Canisfang Lvl. 5》
《Canisfang Lvl. 6》
《Canisfang Lvl. 6》
《Canisfang Lvl. 8》
They were all a higher level than Kurushimi but there was a low chance the three dogs she took on at Lvl. 1 wasn’t a higher level than her, so she wasn’t too worried about that. On another note, she had seen something new.
-Canisfang? Is that what they are called?
After using Appraisal, the ‘dogs’, as she had been calling them, were being called ‘Canisfang’s. It seemed Canisfang was the official name of these creatures for this world.
-Anyway...
Kurushimi refocused her attention on the task at hand. Watching the canisfangs, she took notice of one of them in particular.
The highest level canisfang in the pack, the Lvl. 8 one, seemed to have a strange ‘aura’ to it. Kurushimi didn’t really understand the feeling and couldn’t really describe it. With it being a new feeling she has never experienced before, she chalked it up to being another exclusive thing to this world.
-I think… That one may be the leader.
That was what Kurushimi deduced from the strange and intimidating aura she felt.
-Well… let's start by taking out their leader first and then cleaning up the rest afterwards!
Kurushimi had opted to take out the leader quickly with her stealth advantage.
《Used skill: 『Shadow magic Lvl. 1』!》
Kurushimi’s shadow began to writhe about as if it were alive. It kind of shocked Kurushimi and almost made her shout. Luckily, she didn’t otherwise she would have lost her surprise attack.
As the writhing about became more violent, tentacles began to sprout from her shadow and race down the tree. Fast, swift and silently they approached the Lvl. 8 canisfang...

What Was Lost Outside Time
What happens to a mind, subjected to an infinite span of time? What remains, when it is taken out again? This is the story of an individual reborn after such time has passed that nothing remains of what it was; an individual who must learn once again what it is to be, beginning with awareness of the idea of awareness, and growing from there; from awareness of self, to awareness of others, to awareness of society, and on. This is the story of a mind; growing, learning, adapting, and becoming more. -- Currently the first three chapters are - well, kind of experimental. I both like and hate these; they were a pain to write, and I'm told by at least one person that they're painful to get through, but I think something like them is necessary to set one of the basic ideas about the way the story is written. It gets slightly more normal after that, the first arc of the story is rather "battle school", and I think I may need to go back and edit it - the characterization didn't end up working out as well as I had originally hoped, unfortunately, and ended up rather weak to my eye. I may go back and add a sub-plot or two, depending on how well I can handle the intended perspective shift of the second arc. -- Currently on hiatus, in case that wasn't obvious. I'm debating between rewriting large portions of what I've already written, and just finishing out the story, but either way, I don't actually have a clear idea of what I want to do right now. If I'm still feeling the same way in a few months I'll put a chapter up explaining where the story was going, maybe, so the people who have enjoyed it can know where the story was intended to go, and close this out.
