《A Reincarnated Demon’s Life of Wonder》[Arc 1] Prologue: Beginning in the Dark
Advertisement
Uuuuhhh... where am I?
It's pitch black... and my body feels weird... ah!
The reincarnation! Did it work? And why can't I see...
Now I get it. It's too dark to see anything at all. Go figure. I can faintly see the outline of some rocks, but...I can't say things are looking bright for me.
Then again, it may have been worse if I didn't choose that [Nightvision] skill. Good thinking of me there.
*Thunk*
Giyyaaa! My feet touched something! Oh wait, it's just a book..., what's a book doing here?
Despite the book being covered in darkness like everything else in here, I could still see it. It's made out of black leather, and there's a purple "K" on its front page. It's the same size as a notebook. It looks kinda strange, for a reason I can't explain very well. Maybe it's my gut telling me this.
While I tried to figure out what this book was doing here, my field of vision was gradually becoming better. Is the skill working better now? Thinking about it, there was something about an "Lv.1" on the skills I chose. What was that for?
*Clack*
Whoa-!? The book opened all on its own! It turned its pages with an incredible speed before revealing a blank page..., or not. Letters are gradually being formed on the page. And despite my lack of good lighting and sight-related skills, I could still see what was written there.
Skills of the Terra Sol World System have their skill levels, separate from their users' racial levels. The higher the skill level, the more power the skill has to offer its user.
...did the book just answer my question? ...but it didn't react from my thoughts just now. Do I need to think louder or something?

It was then I tried to voice my question instead, but I couldn't get a sound out. More like, I've forgotten to take a look at my body this whole time.........oh, boy.
My body is made up of one round-ish trunk and four legs that end in four-fingered claws. My mouth has lots of sharp teeth in them, and I got a damn long tongue that could probably make me an honorary member of the frog club. I'm not sure if I wanna see my face...
Is this a Grey Demon? This four-legged, spider-counterfeit-looking thing? I want my money back! I didn't pay anything though...
Then I noticed that the book had switched pages again. This time it's showing a picture of..., of something that looks like a grey (yes, I can even see the colors despite being in the dark) creature with four legs, an ugly body, a mouth that looks like a lamprey's, and black, coal-like eyes that don't seem fit for a proper living being. Don't tell me...
Name: Grey Demon Rank: G- Genus: Demon (Color Demon) Element: --- Description:
One of the seven Color Demons and the demon who represents the Sin of Sloth.
The Grey Demon has low physical- and magical strength, but it is gifted with status ailments and dexterity.
It has a spider-like shape as if to demonstrate that, yet some monster researchers believe it is due to a spider could be a representative of sloth due to how many spiders make webs instead of actively hunting for prey. It is a theory with many supporters for and against it.
Yup! It's the page for the Grey Demon! What's wrong with this stupid book?! Don't twist the knife in my wound!
Grr..., I should have gone for the zombie. Even that's better than this..., I think.

Feeling agitated over this stupid book, I decided to leave it behind. Not that I could carry it. I'm quadruped with this body. Therefore, adios, stupid book!
...but it did bring up any type of info...
Against my own will, I tried to grab the book and take it with me. I failed. And tripped. Then I found out that the Grey Demon's tongue could be used as a fifth limb. Quite handy. Or perhaps "tonguey".
I tried to look for a way out only to discover that this place was some sorta cave. A dead-end inside a cave, to be exact. Why am I even here? I left with the book in tow (not in tongue) and saw...what in the other world?
The place looks like an underground lake. I can't see the end of it, but there's a faint, blue light on the other side of it. Feeling anxious for a reason, I tried to work that [Lurk] skill-thingy by shouting "LURK! LURK! LURK!" repeatedly inside my head. I just need to stay hidden...*shivers*-!!
What was that!? It felt like the whole North Pole went down my spine! I hid behind one of the rocks closer to the walls away from the lake. And just in time too. Because the chill-bringers arrived right after.
A bunch of black ghosts came out of a hole in the wall! And don't look at me, because that's the best way I can describe them! They're wearing tattered, black robes over their spiny bodies, with the only parts of their bodies being revealed are their skinny, dried-out hands. They're practically shaking my soul just with their appearance. I'd even bet that they'd have the souls of little children for dinner if they could.
The good part about them is that they haven't noticed me. Because their attention is 100% on the lake.
And vice-versa! A huge sea serpent..., lake serpent, big enough to bite a truck in two, just emerged from the lake and started to fight the black ghosts!
The ghosts tried to body-tackle the lake-serpent, but before they could reach it, the serpent shot a torrent of water out its mouth and flushed away from the ghosts! Is that from some skill..., and the ghosts disintegrated when they touched that water!
I'm not sure if the ghosts are dry-cleaning only or not, but I'm not staying here! The hole that the ghosts came from is spook-free, and the lake serpents are too distracted by the survivors that are trying to reach the opposite side of the lake.
Time to skedaddle! RUN! RUN FOR YOUR LIFE!!

Beast
A threat to the galaxy has come from another, and the Union of intelligent life will go to any length to stop it. Military Quarantine has held for hundreds of thousands of cycles. Traders, merchants, colonists, and Pirates live risky lives along the fringes as the politics from the inner systems fail to see the larger threats beyond their borders. A lone human finds himself far from home with no memories to how he arrived. A failing Trade vessel plays on a desperate gamble, while a malicious parasite searches for a suitable host. ............................................. Author's note: Beast is a story that I wrote a long, long time ago. Some of you might have read it then, back when it was posted on reddit over at r/HFY. It was my first webfiction and made in the spirit of that subreddit's "genre" of humanity being awesome. But, it is also a story that has bothered me a little bit. Just like most new writers tend to do, I made mistakes and errors that feel painful to reread. A Space Opera will be a Space Opera, but I had prose that makes present-me cringe. Still, at the same time, the story is still very much a tale I've never given up on. It was my first adventure into fiction: Beast was a crazy adventure with bodysnatching aliens, galactic war, threats from across the universe... Posting this story here is a way to try and redeem myself a bit. I won't call it a complete rewrite, because it's not, but I have wanted to go through and correct some of the major issues Beast has for a long time and put it somewhere more accessible to read (instead of as posts/comments on reddit) and I figure that now is as good a time as any. Additional corrections you might notice are welcome.

Chains of Dominion
If Jake wins the local Fantasy Tactics Online tournament, he’ll have everything he’s ever dreamed of — a ticket out of town and the attention of a beautiful woman. However, this woman has more planned for him than a bus ride to the local metropolis. She teleports him back to her Realm and declares him her Master… and says it’s up to him to save the world. No pressure. Rival Dominions vie for power, and they are all far larger and more organized than Jake’s rag-tag group of women, but he has two advantages: the rules of this world are eerily similar to those of Fantasy Tactics Online, and his wildest dirtiest sexual fantasies act as a power multiplier for his all-female army. Warning: The heroes have intense tactical battles, wild kinky sex, and near-constant flirtation. The villains are disturbing and cruel. If the idea of villains doing bad things bothers you, please do not read books ever, but especially don’t read this one.

The Fall
Perhaps the most well known of all devils, demons, or fallen angels is the one known as Lucifer, Satan, the Father of Lies. The cultural influence of this figure throughout history is by no means small. Despite that, it wasn’t until the time of Milton’s classic – Paradise Lost – that we saw an attempt to portray a dramatized version of the events leading to this figure’s fall from grace and power. And while this is the case, Paradise Lost is not about Lucifer – though it goes into great detail about his potential musings. No, Paradise Lost was, and still is, about the fall of mankind. So, in light of this, and the feeling that the classical story deserved another telling, I present to you all The Fall – a story focused particularly on Lucifer’s fall from grace and his musings both before and after.
