《Dawn Of The Lilies》What is Love?

"What is love?" Jungkook asked the boy with a boxy smile. The boy's face fell in what Jungkook was told disappointment... or was it sadness? He always got those mixed up.

"Love...is..." the boy stopped his face turning a cherry red before he bolted up the street, disappearing into the fog.

"Huh..." he shrugged, not knowing how to react, and walked back to his apartment. He would need to ask his mom what love was. So maybe he could understand Taehyung better.

"Kookie is that you?" Called his mom from the kitchen. He shuffled his way towards her voice and froze. The dishes were floating around her head washing themselves, and the pot had a spoon stirring its contents methodically.

"Mom..." he began still watching as the inanimate objects moved about. She gave him a soft smile. "One second." She snapped her fingers, which sent all the dishes and cutlery into its proper place.

"Mom..." he tried again after she sat down at the table sipping her herbal tea.

"Yes baby, what is it?"

"What is love?" He asked almost robotically. She smiled wide as if the word made her happy. Yes... that was the emotion connected with smiles. Happy. So, love makes someone feel happy. So why was the boy so sad? Jungkook thought as he waited for his moms reply.

" Well... love is unconditional. It's a feeling but also an action towards someone else. But then there are different types of love..."

"Like anger?"

His mom chuckled. "Not quite. So, I love you. But it's motherly love. Meaning I will always take care of you and be there to hold you when you are sad, happy, all the emotions. Well, in your case baby no feelings or emotions at all."

"Oh..." he thought for a moment. "What about the other love?"

His mother gazed out the quaint window over the sink into the woods. A tear formed in the crease of her eye, as the memories of a love that was lost invaded her mind.

"Did I upset you mom?" His tone was void of feeling. But she knew if he could feel it would be that of worry.

"Not you sweetheart... just a memory."

He nodded still searching her eyes for answers. Waiting expectantly and quite still.

"I loved your father. He would make my heart beat fast and slow at the same time. Make me want to go crazy, and then feel so comfortable and happy the next."

Jungkook scratched his head while jotting down words in his journal. Every emotion he had ever learned was in this journal. Each one complex, and interesting to say the least.

"Different from the love for me."

"Yes..." she sighed into her teacup her eyes fixed on a scratch on the wooden table.

"I want to feel." He concluded. His mother gave him a sad smile. Which was odd. How could you be happy but sad at the same time? Perhaps she felt sorry for him. He wasn't sure.

"Mom... do you think someone could love me like you loved dad?"

He watched her carefully her expression changing to something of wonder. Could someone love him, even though he couldn't return those feelings?

"Anything is possible... are you hungry?" She tried to change the subject. He looked from her to the fridge. Why'd she ask that? He didn't know if he was hungry. He would just eat when she told him to.

She facepalmed herself realizing her mistake. As she stood up from the table, her shoulders sagged. She wished she could help him feel all these emotions he would ask about. What kind of ability leaves you void of every feeling known to man? It was so cruel.

Waving her hands about the kitchen came to life. Vegetables jumped to the cutting board to be diced up or sliced, and meat danced into the frying pan.

His mother's ability allowed her to manipulate inanimate objects. However, when it was first discovered she was put in confinement for months. They ran so many tests on her. Trying to see if they could replicate it or make it stronger to where she could control others. But later they would find themselves disappointed and release her back to her mother and father.

"Here you go sweetie." A plate floated over in front of him and rested on the table. He stared at it, then began to eat. "Thank you, Mom..."

His mom smiled but she was deep in thought.

Ayla

I don't think I ever told him about love... he never asked, nor did he say it. Matter of fact I don't think I even said it to him. My heart squeezed; how could I not tell him all these years. Goodness knows I love my son. Maybe because I avoided mentioning a feeling. Not so much that they were hard to describe. I just hated the fact that no matter how many he learned. He could never feel them.

A tear rolled down my face, making him look up at me.

"Mom?" He questioned his tone always empty. I sighed my heart heavy. "Kookie... I'm okay. I want to say something. It may seem cruel. But I feel that it is necessary."

He nodded his blank stare looking deep into my breaking heart.

"Baby... I'm so sure someone could love you in a way much like how I loved your father. But, would you want them to? Knowing you can't return that love?"

He furrowed his brow as he thought. It was an interesting look for him. His blank expression usually unfazed, so when he was thinking over things. It almost seemed like he had all the emotions and feelings to go along with them.

My heart faltered at his response moments later.

"No... Mom... I suppose not." He left the table his food only partly finished and disappeared with his notebook to his room.

Jungkook stared out his window at the rise of another new moon. He knew now why Taehyung was upset.

The question was could he return the boy's love for him, was that what happened before?
