《Take Me Down》14

He pulled at the air with his powers and I watched in amazement, still scared of the man who held me close to him. I watched as the trees beneath us vanished and we dropped to the ground, right next to his car. I whimpered when the driver opened the door and Aaron sat me down next to him.

"Dragons heal fast, you should be fine in about a day." The fireman said, and I nodded slowly, laying back in my seat. Aaron sat down next to me and I moved over slightly in my seat. He grabbed my hand and I felt our connection, not being able to resist at the moment. I moved closer to him and laid my head against his shoulder, cuddling up to him. I shifted my foot and cried out softly, Aaron touching my cheek with his index finger.

Another two hours in the vehicle and we stopped finally. I looked at my foot, shifting it slightly as I watched it. It 'healed' slightly, and I wiggled my toes, scrunching my face up in pain.

"Hey, it's going to be okay. We'll be okay." Aaron cooed and I rolled my eyes not looking at him. The fireman and the other one were already outside, sadly I still did not know their names.

The only reason I ran earlier was so that Claudius and Ethan had the chance to get away safely and go tell Avery, Cornelius and Cassie what has happened. In any other case, I should never have a good reason to run from my mate...

Aaron picked me up and walked me up to a big ass house. Damn it was nice, I thought, then shook my head. Dark oak siding, a large white door and giant windows. It looked to be about three stories tall and it was very wide, which meant it could be larger on the other side from what I could see.

"Steve, could you get our driver to fix the back wheel, it needs air," Aaron said to the fireman. I laughed really hard when he said Steve's name. I mean, come on, Steve? Why would you do that to your child?

Steve glared at me and I laughed at him.

"John," Aaron called for the other man and I just couldn't stop full on laughing. John growled at me and Aaron growled back at him. Like you'd think that they wouldn't have such generic white ass names but they do!

Aaron must have had enough of my laughing at them because he threw me into the air and I yelped. I plummeted back down and right into his arms.

"Hey!" I screeched at him, giggling a bit. I do have to admit, he did catch me off guard, which is hard for people to do.

He rolled his eyes and we continued into the house. The main entrance was huge with a chandelier hanging down right inside the front door.

The old doors were dark oak wood inside the house; the house contained several rooms for who knows what. I looked at Aaron who kept his face stern as we passed a few people in the halls of his presumed home.

"This is my study. This is where you will find me if you don't know where I am, unless of course we're not home. You'll always come with me when I leave because I don't trust anyone but myself to be fully capable of your protection..." He said as he went on about some of the history of this house and how long it has been in his family. I groaned internally; I could take care of myself.

"My family has always been magical in one way or another. None of us were ever human except for my sister. Out of everyone down the line of hundreds of relatives, my sister was the one who ended up powerless and helpless." He said, shaking his head.

We entered a giant room full of books up to the ceiling. It was an amazing room. I tapped Aaron's shoulders so he could let me down. I tested my foot and I showed him that I was able to walk as I shifted the bone so it healed completely. I looked around the room, looking at all the books his family must have collected over the many centuries that they have encountered. I shifted into my dragon form and went up to a ledge where a few dusty books sat.

One book, sitting in the middle of a group of dusty books wasn't so dusty. I shifted back and grabbed it, feeling its weight in my hands. I read the title and just about dropped it.

Shapeshiters, Creatures of Myth and Lore was the title of the old book. The pages on the inside were yellow and old, almost crumbling away at my touch. I wanted to read this book more in-depth when a gust of wind snatched it from my hands and put it back on the shelf. A vine wrapped around my waist and carried me back down to the main floor where Aaron stood.

"You can come in here and read any time you want. Just don't rip anything in the process and don't read any of the illegal books." He said, nodding his head in the direction I had been in. So, some of the books in his house were illegal to own and read... Hmm...

I nodded my head and grabbed his hand, letting him lead me around the rest of the house. We ended up on the second floor, in front of a door near a big door that said NO ENTRY on it. The door didn't even have a handle.

"This is the only room in the house that you are not allowed to go in. One day, when we are married and I trust you completely, maybe I will show you what's on the inside. But for now, I can not." Aaron stated, when Steve came out of another room somewhere down the hallway.

"Aaron, Captain Brooks is here for you." He said, looking me up and down.

"Alright. Take Amanda to our room." He said, and I shook my head.

"I don't want to be here alone." I whimpered and his eyes lit up, looking me up and down.

"Sorry hun, but Captain Brooks is not a man I want you to meet, seeing as he hunts our kinds." He said and I gasped backing away slightly. Steve grabbed my arm gently and dragged me off towards Aaron's room. My curiosity was peaked now; why the hell would my mate be meeting with a hunter?

Aaron went back downstairs and out of sight of Steve and I.

"Do you know what's behind the locked door?" I questioned and he shook his head.

"Only his family line is allowed in that room. I'm not the guy to talk to if you want to know. Talk to John, he's Aaron's cousin." Steve said, then nudged me inside a room, shutting the door behind me. There was a king-sized bed in the middle of the room covered with a black blanket and black and white throw pillows. Along the top, there was a long white fluffy pillow that went from one end of the bed to the other.

I looked around and waited until Steve's footsteps faded into nothing down the hallway. I peered out the door and he was nowhere in sight. I ran towards the library and went inside. I shifted so I had fairy wings, flying up to the shelf where I had been previously. I grabbed the Shapeshifter book and went into a top corner of the room and sat down, shifting my wings back into my body. I looked around quickly, making sure no one would be able to see what I was doing.

I opened the book and started to read.

Chapter one: The mythical species

Rare in form, and mainly born as men and in some rare cases women, this breed is one to be feared. It can do anything it wants to, except change its gender. So far that we know, a shapeshifter doesn't reveal itself to many unless it wants to. If you think you know a shapeshifter, do not approach it. Call this number for it to be taken away. (#%^&&^%#) If the shapeshifter knows you are on to it, it will kill you. Do not interfere or mess with this breed. You will most likely die if you try.

I read on a bit, skipping most of the first chapter. It was mostly all warnings and stuff about my breed and how we were dangerous and powerful and there wasn't an exact way to handle us or kill us. I skipped the rest of the chapter and went to the next one.

Chapter two: Mates

Interbreeding is never an option.

Those were the only words of that chapter and I laughed to myself. Funny how the elders who wrote this book would have such closed minds about it. If they were alive today, they would most likely die from all the interbreeding of the species.

Chapter three: Bounty

If tamed, a shapeshifter could be of much use to anyone. Protection of all kinds for one thing, and then a glamorous pet of the other kind. Bounty on these creatures should range between $900 000 to $50 000 000 if you have a non-healthy or beauty-lacking one. Other prices could range from $1 000 000 to 900 000 000 if the buyer was the right one and a female shapeshifter is worth far more. . .

I literally dropped the book. I did not want to read any more of this. I grabbed it quickly off the floor and put it back on the shelf where I had found it. If those were the prices back then, what would the prices be like now? I heard the door to the library open, and I dropped down silently and grabbed another book, leaning against the wall and pretending to read.

"Already feels like home, doesn't it?" Aaron questioned and I smiled, putting the book back on the shelf.

"I guess it does," I said, smiling.

It was definitely a good idea not to tell him what I was. Mate or not, I don't think he would keep me around that much longer if he knew the truth.
