《Freshman》05. Say... What?
Almost all of the freshmen join the SOTUS again the next day.
Now, every hazer is checking on the signature book. Most of the freshmen have 300 signatures where the target of the fourth day is 800 signatures.
This is not definitely fun Friday for the freshmen. But the seniors are generous enough. They only need to do one pushup for every 5 signatures, means 100 push-ups in average.
And then there is Beam.
He has 980 signatures. Turns out he got almost 400 signatures yesterday from the boys who thought that he was a rock star for having the entire Engineering girls' phone numbers.
Forth walks to Beam.
Beam is the only freshman that stands up after all his friends doing their 100 push-ups.
"You looked happy." Forth says to Beam.
Park and Lam guard him behind, just in case he bursts in anger because of Beam and risk the SOTUS being banned for violence.
Beam smiles. "SOTUS is fun."
Paused.
"... P'Forth."
Sounded like hissed.
Forth blinks slowly. He is not Park—he rarely gets angry for a little thing, but just seeing Beam makes his blood boiled in anger.
Forth looks around. The other freshmen are now sitting down in the field. They are defeated, sweating hard.
"I see you had not asked the signature from the hazers." Forth says to Beam and glares at him.
Beam is still smiling. "Why would I? The point of getting signature is to know your seniors, right? I know all of you already, P'Forth." And he even glances politely to Park and Lam. "P'Lam, P'Park...."
Forth grits his teeth and tries so hard to maintain his calm even Lam already seeing imaginary steam coming out from Forth's head.
"I see." Forth nods. "You care so much about knowing your seniors. How about your fellow year? Do you know them?"
The hazers know for sure, the first years do not like Beam. Beam was seeing to try to talk to them but they turn their face away. Beam would not....
"Of course." Beam surprisingly claims.
"Really?" Forth doesn't buy it. "EVERYONE! Flip your name tag!" he gives orders to the first year students.
Everyone obeys.
Beam is still smiling. He locks his gaze to Forth.
Forth points at some random student. "Who is he?"
Beam looks at the student. "Posh." He answers.
Forth flinches. Beam knows him?
Even Posh surprised that Beam knows his name.
Maybe Beam knows him because he mostly sits beside Beam.
Forth points at random male students a little far. "Who is he?"
Beam turns to that boy. "Sharp."
Forth blinks. "What Major?" he adds the question.
"Mechanical, like P'Max."
Lam nearly claps his hands. Beam is like their common enemy and yet Beam still knows their name, and MAJOR?!
Even Park is amused.
Forth tilts his head.
He points at least 20 students and Beam still be able to mention their name and Major. Either it's a boy or a girl.
Beam has a little expression change. He'll make a good actor someday.
"How about her?"
This time, Beam froze. He doesn't know her at all.
The fact is, she has not join the SOTUS since the second day, nearly giving up SOTUS actually, but she decides to get back.
That's how Beam doesn't know her.
Beam gulps. He turns to Forth.
"Hm?" Forth asks.
"I am sorry, P'Forth, I don't know her." Beam says his apology.
Forth blinks. "Now, now.... Just because you know your seniors, doesn't mean you can forget to know your friends, do you?"

Beam nods.
"I can't hear you."
Beam sighs. "Yes, P'Forth. I should know my friends better."
"Run 5 laps of the field and contemplate on your mistake." Forth hisses.
Beam looks at Forth. That punishment even harder than the fails to collect the signatures. But Beam smiles and nod. "Yes, P'Forth."
And then he starts running.
Park glares at Forth. Really? 5 laps for that?!
He starts to question Forth's judgment.
Lam frowns. He is disagreeing too.
But they keep silent.
Forth kneels in front of the girl that Beam doesn't know her.
"Let me see your name tag." Forth says coldly.
She flips her name tag to show it to Forth.
Forth looks at the attendance stamp. Every day after the SOTUS finishes, the hazer will put a stamp in each date on the bottom of the name tag. That girl only has one stamp of the first day.
"Namtran...." Forth hissed reading the namtag.
Namtran gulps and shaking. "Yes, P'Forth...?"
"You are only attending SOTUS at the very first day." Forth says coldly. "No wonder your friend doesn't know you. And yet, you don't care to introduce yourself well to catch up with your friends?"
Namtran's eyes are teary already. She nearly cries.
Forth gets up again. He looks at Beam who is running alone in the track field that surrounds the field where the SOTUS gathering held.
And then he looks around to the freshmen. "You all are failures." He says.
Forth still has the microphone on him. Everyone hear him clearly.
"What point of the Unity that I explain to you since the first day that you don't get it? I thought only smart people went to Engineering." Forth hisses.
What now...?
"You let me do that to your friend?" Forth points at the running Beam. "No one even tries to help him! I can't believe you! He's one of you and you are not helping him!"
Silence.
"I told you to flip your name tag. I didn't say to hide your name. Why don't you flip it up so Beam could read your name easier?" Forth asks. "All of you intended for him to get the punishment."
"Why? Because he's the only one that has ball that big enough to come to SOTUS everyday even his fellow soon to be Engineering students not even sure about it?" Forth starts to yell.
"Or you envy him because he's the only one who doesn't get the punishment for failing the signature task because he's the only one that has what it need to get the job done?!" He adds.
"Envy your friend?!!!
What kind of friend who is happy to see his friend in pain?!"
Silence.
Even Park and Lam didn't see it coming.
"None of you care about him that much but he could mention your name and Major even you don't give it to him. He put attention to his friends, unlike all of the rest of you." Forth breaks the silence.
No one move.
"Now what? You gonna let him finish his punishment alone?" Forth yells. "Shameless!!!"
They gasp.
"Tell you what, I will only hazing for those who run with Beam and finished his punishment. If none of you join him, then fine by me. I'll only haze for him." Forth closed his anger and leaves the scene, walking to the hazing team tent.
Park and Lam is joining the first year students, gasping widely.
Forth really want to end the SOTUS, does he?

They look at each other and join Forth leaving the field.
Silence.
Only the sound of Beam's shoes hitting the track field while running around heard. He runs slowly because run 5 laps needs stamina, not speed.
He can't stop looking at Forth. That was wicked—what Forth did. Even he didn't see it coming.
"I am so tired after doing 100 push-ups." One of the first years breaks the silence on the field.
"Yeah, me too."
They are staring to whisper at each other.
"I won't survive running 5 laps. The track is huge!"
"Do we really need this SOTUS?"
"He is not even a real Engineering student, right? He is former Medical student?"
"If only he didn't push the seniors too far and having a big mouth, he doesn't have to do that and we don't have to do it too."
Suddenly Posh gets up.
Wai—his friend since high school, gasps. "Posh, what are you doing?"
Posh shrugs. "You heard what P'Forth said. He only going to haze who's with Beam in finishing his punishment."
Wai gets up too. "Hoi! Posh! Why would you do that?!" he yells because Posh starts running already.
"Beam was right! We will only having this SOTUS shit thing once in pur entire life!" Posh yells. "Beside, he knows me even I didn't introduce myself and even put a cold shoulder to him. He'll make a great friend!" Paused. "Beside, he is crazy! He'll be fun to have around!"
And then Posh runs faster to catch on Beam.
Wai throws both hands in the air. "For real?!!"
Posh runs beside Beam.
Beam turns his face to Posh. He is pretty surprised seeing him there. That's the boy who mostly ignores him and put the glare when he talk trash about the Engineering Major and claimed that Medical is better.
Posh still glares at him tho.
Beam chuckles. He shakes his head and keeps running.
"Stop making troubles, will you? You'll make us heading right into the Hell's gate." Posh says.
Beam laughs. "I'll try."
"Run slower, will you? My body is not desiged for this." Suddenly Wai is running beside Posh. "I am entering Engineering with my brain, not my body."
Beam and Posh looks at the pale boy next to Posh.
"What?" Wai asks them.
Beam laughs. "Hi, Wai...." He greets him.
"Shut up, P'Beam, I still mad at you for saying Medical is better than Engineering."
"Why the fuck are you addressing him as P'...?" Posh eyes are widened.
"He is older than us by at least two years." Wai explains.
"Just Beam is okay, Wai. I am in the first year too." Beam says.
"No. My parents tell me to address older person as P'. You are older and I'll call you P'Beam." Wai insists.
Posh smacks on Wai's head.
Just then, they heard more sounds from their back. When they turn around, their fellows first years are join in their running.
Even Namtran is there too.
Beam smiles at them.
Most of them reply by showing their middle finger to Beam.
Beam laughs.
In the hazing team tent, Forth is drinking his water while looking at how the rest of the first years finally join Beam in running 5 laps on the track field even they were just finishing their 100 push-ups.
Just then, Kongpob enters the tent. Followed by Aim, Tiew and Wad.
Park nudges Forth's ribs to warn his Head Hazer.
"What a drama." Kongpob says coldly.
Forth put his water down. He turns his attention to Kongpob. "Sawadee, P'Kongpob." He greets him politely.
Kongpob looks at Forth coldly. "Beam would make a better Head Hazer than you." He hisses.
Forth blinks. He says nothing.
"Are you planning to make the SOTUS be gone or what? For what I saw, you only tried to make the juniors quit SOTUS." Kongpob asks.
Forth is still silent. He just returns Kongpob's cold gaze with the colder one.
Lam, Max and Tul joins Park in standing behind Forth.
Kongpob scoffs. "I'm watching you, N'Forth. Do your job."
"I am doing it." Forth finally speaks.
"Do it better." Kongpob hisses again.
"From what I saw, I am doing it better than some Head Hazer." Forth hisses back. "All of them are seriously trying to get the gear. And none of my juniors are trying to make me their wife for a short cut."
Even Wad didn't see it coming.
Tiew nearly bursts out laugh but he holds it in time.
Aim bites his lips because he fails to hold his smile.
None of Forth's men dare to laugh or smile.
Oh no, their Head Hazer didn't just.... Mocks their late Head Hazer, two of them, at once. They know about Arthit and Kongpob.
No, Forth not just....
Forth is has no to a little expression.
Kongpob flinched. "Nong Forth...." He is succeed on maintain his calm face even he has to grit his teeth. "... sometimes I forgot how difficult you are since your first year...."
Forth tilts his head. "And yet I am still the Head Hazer."
Kongpob nearly lost his temper but Tiew put a palm to press on his shoulder. He takes a long deep breath and calmed down again. "Biggest mistake I ever had, I see."
Forth just blinks.
Silence.
Lam taps on Forth's arm.
Forth turns to Lam.
"Some of the juniors are collapsing, I'll go chek on them."
Forth nods.
Tul go with Lam.
Park and Max walk forward to the left and right of Forth side.
Kongpob looks at Park and then Max. Compared to the previous hazing team, what Forth has is more likely a delinquent's gang.
All of them has tattoo.
Forth with the half wing tattoo on his left back to his left shoulder.
Park with the dragon tattoo on his right shoulder to his right arm.
Max has giant cross tattoo on his whole back.
Even Lam has tiger head tattoo on his left chest.
Only Tul doesn't have one.
Kongpob makes a dagger V finger gesture from his eyes to Forth before finally walks out the hazing tent.
Park and Max look at Forth.
"Don't say anything. I don't want to hear it." Forth says before any of them say something.
Three of them look at the field. The juniors are on their last lap. Most of them has to walk to finish it because they don't have any power left.
At least 30 students faint on the side.
Tul are on the medic tent while Lam organizing the water for the students who are finishing running.
Most of them are laughing.
A thin smile is crafting on Forth's lips.
Beam sits with at least five first years and laughs with them.
Max taps on Park's shoulder and then points at Forth with his chin.
Park makes a huge throw up gesture.
Forth smacks Park's head so hard and then even chocked him. "I told you not to say anything!"
"I didn't! Ouch! Max! Help!"

A/N:
He really didn't say anything, Forth.
