《The Freshman Tease ✓》20. Dressed Up

I'm laying in bed reading. Not the most exciting way to spend a Saturday evening but I wanted to relax after a long week of midterms. I hear my phone buzz.

J: Hey, I'm going to my cousin's wedding next week, do you think you could come shopping with me to get clothes for it?

K: Why do you want me to?

J: I trust your sense of style :)

K: When?

J: I was hoping now. I'm outside your dorm

K: Jeez, real confident huh?

J: It'd be a shame if you said no, it's very cold out here.

K: haha ok ok, I'll be down in a minute

I get dressed and head downstairs. Sure enough, Jason is there.

"Hey," I say as I open the dorm building's doors, "so where are we headed?"

"The mall downtown, there's a Harry Rosen there," he says as we head back to his car, "almost all my suits are from there."

I almost stop in my tracks and have to force my mouth to not drop open as my brain tries to comprehend that. The average cost of those suits are over $2,000. He owns multiple. He's buying another one.

"Oh," I manage to squeak, "are you good for a dress shirt and tie?"

He thinks for a bit. "Oh yeah I'll probably just buy those while I'm there too," he answers casually, "thanks for reminding me."

I slightly choke on air.

Their dress shirts are all around $300 and their ties are all over $100. I only know this from going there with my wealthy uncle when he bought his wedding clothes.

"I-I see."

We're in his car, and Jason is about to start driving.

"Wait hold on," he pauses. He reaches behind us to grab something from the backseat. He hands me a medium sized white box.

"What's this?" I ask, raising an eyebrow.

"Just open it," he says impatiently with a teasing grin.

I do. Inside is a thick cream coloured scarf. It's incredibly soft.

"You always seem to be cold," he chuckles, "and it's still only autumn. I thought this would be nice to have."

He has a point, I'm always cold during fall and winter. He's given me blankets twice now. "Oh my gosh, thanks a lot Jason, that's so sweet of you," I gush.

I suddenly notice a velvet black box under the scarf. I furrow my brows, and he gives me a grin and nods. I slowly open it, and wrapped around a black velvet cushion inside is a diamond tennis bracelet. I don't know what to say.

"Just a little something to say thanks for being so great with Belle," he grins.

I'm distraught and my words are coming out incoherently. "What? Wait no. No, I can't. Jason why? No. No. Jason oh god."

"Hey hey, relax," he gently places his hand on my thigh.

The warmth from his hand makes my skin tingle, even through my jeans, but I quickly snap out of it and become frantic again. "Jason no! I can't accept something like this. I appreciate it but no!"

He leans over and kisses me, effectively shutting me up. I feel the stress and panic melt away. He pulls away and gives me a sincere smile, still holding my cheek. "Please? I thought it would look very pretty on you too."

I can't help but blush.

I shut the bracelet's box and shove it back into his hands.

"Thanks but no thanks," I giggle.

I sit on a comfortable armchair as Jason examines himself in the full length tri-fold mirror outside the dressing room. I get a small flutter in my stomach from the sight of Jason all dressed up like this. God am I getting old? I remember the days where I liked guys who always just wore jeans and t-shirts.

The sales associate is a young girl with wavy brown hair and a lot of makeup. She's been flirting with him the whole time we've been here. It makes me cringe a bit. "That one looks great on you," she batts her eyelashes.

He gives her his signature charming smile. "You think so huh," he says, "do you think you could get me this one in black?"

She nods and heads back to the store.

He turns to me. "What do you think?" he asks.

He's decided to wear a white dress shirt and navy blue tie. Now he's picking out a jacket. I've lost track of how long we've been here and how many things he's tried on. I chuckle a bit. "Honestly, I can't tell the difference between this blue one and the previous blue one you just tried on."

He looks at me with amusement. "Are there any I've tried on that you liked?"

I nod and walk over to the giant pile of jackets he's tried on. I pull out two, one is a dark blue pinstripe jacket, and the other is a matte charcoal grey and black jacket.

"Alright, I'll get them both."

The same sales associate is at the till. As Jason is waiting for the machine to accept his card payment, she slides a small piece of paper across the counter to him. I can see a phone number written on it. "I'm off at 10," she whispers.

Jason takes it and winks at her.

I get a sinking feeling in my stomach.

"Hey are you alright?" I ask Katie as we head to the parking lot. She seems quiet and a little sad looking.

"Oh yeah I'm fine," she mumbles.

I think for a bit as we continue walking. "Are you in any sort of rush to get home?"

She looks a bit confused. "No."

"Would you like to get some dessert? I know you have a sweet tooth." It's true, she snacks on candy a lot, I have no idea how she's still so skinny. She has the same strained look on her face as she did before offering to babysit Belle.

"Sure. Have you been to that café, Tealight?" she asks.

"Yeah. Ray's girlfriend Stephanie loves that place," I nod, "she brings over boxes of their desserts all the time."

I end up getting a mille-feuille, and Katie gets tiramisu. We sit down at a table. The decor is very warm and comfortable. The walls have shiny wood accents, the tile floors have a subtle design, there's soft jazz playing in the background, and the furniture is rustic.

"I made tiramisu one time," Katie reminisces, "I didn't realize the alcohol was supposed to be diluted, so it was very strong. I'm such a lightweight I legitimately got buzzed from it."

I can't help but laugh. "I'd expect as much. You're so tiny."

We end up having a really nice evening. Katie is her usual kind and friendly self. After dropping her off back at her dorm, I take out my phone. It's 10:15.

J: Hey Lisa, off work now?
