《Devil May Love | Niklaus Mikaelson》Chapter Thirty: Do Not Go Gentle

Unedited
The Mikaelson mansion was completely empty for the first time in months. Everyone was gone to the woods to begin the much anticipated ritual. Klaus and Evangeline had left together hand in hand squeezing with equal pressure as they came closer and closer to the area where their lives would initially change forever and—hopefully—for the better.
Once they arrived, Anastasia had already been there with Rebekah, who looked the least worried out of all of them. The blonde vampire greeted the mates but Evangeline couldn't help but feel like there had been something off about her. The Rebekah she thought she knew was never that calm and collected in nearly any situation that didn't involve trying to kill Elena. Rebekah always had doubts and was seemingly emotional unless she was being depended on or was one hundred percent behind something.
Now I'm just worrying myself, Evangeline thought with a sigh as she drew her attention from Rebekah, Rebekah is fine.
As Evangeline went over to help Anastasia, Klaus spotted the Quarterback coming into the clearing with Elena, who was already arguing with him about something, and rolled his eyes.
And the drama has arrived, The Original thought to himself.
"He's the human?" Evangeline asked her best friend who nodded and caused the Hybrid woman to sigh, "And you're here to what, make sure we don't taint Elena or kill her?"
The blue eyed blonde boy shifted uncomfortably but nodded, "It took a lot of convincing for your brothers not to show up today, I'm just here to keep an eye on her for them"
The female Salvatore refrained from rolling her eyes at his statement and saying, "Yeah and what are you going to do that'll be effective towards any of us if the time came?"
Instead, she said, "Great, well, I'm sure you all can leave once your part is done". Anastasia nodded in confirmation as the beautiful colors from the sunset completely vanished causing the mates to immediately make eye contact with one another.
Evangeline gasped internally as she saw her mate's eyes flash gold while Klaus grinned when he saw a flicker of fire in her eyes.
Last night, they had a very complex conversation that discussed their downfall during the ritual and came to a conclusion on how they were going to kill each other.
The thought was quite gruesome on its own but their decision was much worse.
Similar to Klaus's ritual, Anastasia drew rings to go around each part of the blood ritual that the human, vampire, and unus ignis would go into and be surrounded by fire. Elena had a designated spot too but there was no need for a ring of fire since she would be drawing her own blood, upon request. Klaus was left to the perimeter of the area seeing as he wouldn't be needed until after his mate finished her own ritual, which he didn't mind because that meant he could be alert for if her idiot brothers decided to appear and ruin things for their sister.
For once, Klaus wanted things to go through without conflict. He just wanted to finish the ritual and sacrifice then explore the world with Evangeline. It was the first time in a long while that he had a feeling as such and he had no plans for it to go to waste.
Anastasia lead Rebekah and Matt to their designated circles as Evangeline heard a rustling in the trees, snapping her head over immediately and spotting someone she had never seen before.
Standing before her was a young man, no older than his late twenties, with a caramel skin tone that matched her own and black shoulder-length hair that glided through the wind like that of a man from a romance novel. He was over six-feet tall wearing nothing but a pair of tan pants covered in the signature unus ignis insignia and two dragon tattoos wrapped around his huge biceps. The man had to be nearing three hundred pounds with the amount of muscle he had.

What caught the most attention though, was the blazing fire in his eyes that rivaled Evangeline's own.
Four sets of eyes turned to Anastasia as the young man approached her with a smile and hugged her as if they were old friends reunited.
Do you know who he is, love? Klaus questioned his mate through their mental connection. The man looked too similar to his mate for him not suspect that she knew who he was.
Evangeline made eye contact with the Original before she shook her head and did a small shrug before she approached her best friend and the stranger.
Upon seeing her approach, Anastasia smiled, "Evangeline, this is Mika Christo, your cousin"
"My what?" Evangeline said with wide eyes as she laid eyes on her apparent family member. The only family she knew of were Damon, Stefan, and her Grandmother. Her grandfather died years before she came to Spain to the village. She never knew if she had any cousins. "But I thought my dad was an only child"
Before Ana could answer, Mika did as his eyes went from inflamed to a smoldering deep brown and spoke with a deep French accent, "My mother and your father's sister, Juliana Stone left the village for France when she turned eighteen and married a human, Christian Stone and conceived me. I am part human, like you"
Evangeline's jaw dropped and she felt her heart swelling with hope as she laid eyes on a family member that was somewhat similar to her.
"Wow" She whispered, holding back tears, "It's great to meet you Mika. I um—I like your tattoos"
The unus man chuckled as he looked down to the bands of ink on his skin, "They came after my mating ritual. My mate has a pair of her own as well"
Just as Evangeline felt as though she couldn't have gotten any more surprised, she was proven wrong as she looked at her cousin as she was tempted to pull him into a much needed hug and let out a sigh of relief.
"Y-you have a mate?" Evangeline asked as she bit back the millions of questions she felt swarming in her mind, begging to be asked, "Why'd you get tattoos?"
"It's typical unus tradition" he explained, "They come with true mates"
Evangeline nodded as she glanced over to Klaus and urged him to come over with her eyes before turning back to her cousin, "Well I imagine you have been caught up on why you've been asked to come here today. This is—"
"Niklaus Mikaelson" Klaus finished with a wolfish grin as he approached her three-inches taller cousin and brought out his tanned hand for a shake. Both men held solid eye contact as they gave each other an unnecessarily tight handshake. The females rolled their eyes as the testosterone contest before Mika broke out into a million-watt smile, "It's great to meet such a legend"
Niklaus ticked an eyebrow in surprise before he looked over at his mate, I like this side of your family.
Evangeline chuckled, me too.
"I was honored when Anastasia contacted me, asking to be a part of the ritual that brought The Mates together" Mika admitted with a pride in his tone that made his cousin smile.
Evangeline went to thank him but reality came crashing down on them in the form of the human doppelganger.
"Um, can we maybe get this on with?" Elena asked with an irate expression, breaking up the reunion but being the only one actually irritated. Matt watched the ordeal with wide eyes as he seemed more afraid of Mika than anyone else due to his huge stature and Rebekah eyed the group curiously.

"Of course" Anastasia quipped, "The moon won't be full forever, Evan please return to your spot and Mika please stand here" she gestured to a circle drawn in the ground beside that of Matt's whose eyes were still trained on the bulky man.
The unus man smiled at the petite witch before looking over at the human with a smirk.
Just like that, Ana began chanting in Latin tongue with power that shook the entire forest. The circles drawn in the dirt were lit with pale blue fire bringing a glow to every in the area's skin. Evangeline took a deep breath as she locked eyes with Nik and picked up the large antique looking glass that she was to drink from once the blood was collected in it.
The wind danced around them as Anastasia approached Mika, who then wore a serious expression, and the circle around him dispersed around her feet as she stepped towards him. She continued chanting in a steady voice as she quickly drew a blade from her pocket, levitated the cup from Evangeline's hands to her, and quickly cut Mika's palm, allowing his blood to drain into the cup before he healed. Instead of flinching, the man's pride flared as he held a reassuring gaze with his appearing-to-be younger cousin as Anastasia left his circle and went for Matt's. The fire in Mika's circle went from pale blue to blood red.
Elena watched the scene like a hawk as the witch cleaned Mika's blood from the blade and took Matt's palm in her hand. The full moonlight glimmered on the weapon as she made a quick, clean cut on the human's palm identical to that of Mika's as Matt winced in pain. After enough blood left Matt's palm into the cup, Anastasia healed his hand herself and the human let out a relieved breath. Anastasia left and the circle of fire went from pale blue to blood red as it had done for Mika as well.
As she approached Rebekah, the blonde Original tilted her head in power as she drew her hand out to the witch. Anastasia cleaned the blade and performed the same actions as she had the two previous times. Rebekah did not react to the minimal pain and healed a bit faster than Mika but enough blood was spilled for the one cut made to be enough.
All eyes were on Anastasia as the last circle of fire turned blood red and she approached the last victim, Elena Gilbert. If anything was going to go wrong, it was going to be during her approach towards the doppelganger.
Klaus made sure to keep his eyes peeled out on the entire perimeter for the Salvatore brothers as Elena took the blade in her hand and closed her palm around the sharp edge. Klaus's eyes flashed gold as the scent of Elena's blood filled the air while the sanguine liquid poured into the once empty glass.
After Anastasia healed the doppelganger, Evangeline let out a breath of relief at the lack of chaos before she took the glass from her best friend and brought it to her lips. Each type of blood had its own scent and taste as Evangeline closed her eyes and forced herself to drink every drop. Once she was finished, she dropped the glass to the ground as she fell into a coughing fit.
"Some went down the wrong pipe" She choked out, as she pat her own chest and went to clear her throat before she felt her blood begin to boil. Her eyes went wide and aflame as she felt the familiar feeling of fire approaching in every inch of her body. The group around her watched in astonishment as she backed away from the group and her skin lit with life, her eyes bright with red, orange, and touches of yellow. She fell to her knees and huffed deeply as her hands began to glow and ears pointed.
Klaus went to approach his mate but paused as he saw that her hands held fire. The Salvatore woman screamed out, shaking the woods and lighting the air with fire as her fangs elongated and her wings shot out of her back, ripping the dress she had taken so much time to pick out. The set of wings began to flap, disturbing the air as she went from her knees to above the ground and the fire in her hands grew.
Elena's eyes went wide at the sight of Damon and Stefan's sister. Her hair floated in the wind as she held large balls of fire while her body elongated from five-foot-four to nearly Klaus's height. Her leg and arm muscles became larger and thicker as well as her physique before she roared instead of screamed letting out dark red flames from not only her jaws but her hands. The gorgeous fire grew and grew until they were all sure the entire town of Mystic Falls could see it before, all in a second, the woman was falling towards the forest floor as the fire went out.
Her mate caught her in less than a second, having to use more of his strength seeing as she still bore wings and a larger physique. Klaus's skin burned like hell but he didn't let her go until he was sure she could stand on her own.
Evangeline let out a breath of exhaustion as she stood slumped against her mate who she could in that moment, see eye to eye with. Klaus actually smiled at the beautiful creature before him, basking in the knowledge that he had been fortunate enough to be there when his mate transformed to her full potential.
You are absolutely breathtaking My Angel
The blood red circles of fire dissipated and Anastasia turned to the four bystanders with a smile of gratitude, "Thank you all for helping with Evangeline's transformation, you are all free to go"
Elena and Matt nodded, both wearing faces of disbelief before they left the area for the Mystic Grill. Mika nodded but decided to stay and offer any help needed while Rebekah smiled at the witch.
"It was my pleasure and definitely some sight to see" She said with a clean British accent, "my brother definitely has his hands full"
Anastasia chuckled and nodded in agreement but also felt the pride of a Guardian as she looked at her best friend standing with her prophesized mate as the most powerful unus that ever existed. The witch didn't notice that even though Rebekah had seemed to be leaving, she had actually lingered a hundred or so meters behind, watching from afar.
"And now for the last part" Anastasia said as she approached the lovestruck pair as they held each other, speaking through a mental connection.
She drew a powder from her satchel, the petals of the midnight lily-gold. A beautiful flower that was a dark navy blue shade and very rare. It could only be found in the forests of the Amazon but was usually used for unus rituals.
She marked a crescent moon of Evan's forehead with the powder and a flame on Klaus's before lifting their chins simultaneously so they broke eye contact and stared at the full moon. The White witch began chanting again to the moon and the stars as the markings began to glow. Evan's glowed a bright gold and Klaus's bright red as the beams of light shot out above them and intertwined. The wind whipped around them with a thirty mile per hour speed and the trees shook as if a tornado was approaching.
One...two...three Klaus and Evangeline counted together before each of their arms shot out and they gasped as their palms penetrated each other's chest. They each closed their hands around each other's hearts.
Four...five...six and all in a second, they ripped each other's hearts clean out of their body's before falling to their knees and onto the ground side by side.
The night before, Evangeline had finally admitted to Klaus that she had been hearing his heartbeat for weeks. At first, the man refused to believe her but he could tell by the look in her eye she was telling the truth and had no reason to lie. Then, he decided that the best way to kill each other would be to rip out the very vessel that was suspected to have brought the two together. Evangeline agreed and they had done so successfully, as referred to previously.
Unfortunately, as Anastasia began finishing her final chant and before Mika could attempt to stop her, Rebekah—who Esther had invaded the body of before she died—impaled her with a razor sharp dagger.
The witch's eyes glowed white before she fell just beside the pair of deceased mates.
♠♠♠
Niklaus and Evangeline found themselves surrounded by darkness as they gasped back to 'life'. Together but separated, they used their enhanced vison of the night through glowing eyes to try to grasp where they had ended up. Their ears rung as they walked blindly, attempting to feel something that was familiar.
"Something has gone wrong" Evangeline whispered with malice as she expected her body to heat up with her anger, she surprisingly felt nothing.
Upon hearing her voice, Klaus went to spend into that direction but found himself unable to.
"What the hell?" The pair questioned themselves as they approached each other at human speed as they went towards the opposite pair of glowing eyes.
"We can't possibly be human" Evangeline exasperated as she felt Klaus's hands wrap around her own in attempt to comfort their both, "Our eyes still glow"
"I know, love" Klaus said, squeezing the hands of his mate, "Something has definitely gone wrong"
Anastasia never told them of the part where they would be dropped seemingly nowhere to fend for themselves as somewhat humans with no power nor idea what was going on in the real world where their bodies lay. She also, did not give them a heads up on the glowing red dragon and pale blue wolf that approached them, both made solely out of fire and nearly ten times their size.
The mates held on to each other, feeling annoyingly weak as the two beasts approached them before sitting down only a meter away.
"Niklaus" The wolf spoke in a near demonic voice at the same time the dragon spoke Evangeline's name with a voice of a goddess.
"I am your wolf" said the large canine followed by the dragon who said, "I am your dragon"
The mates shared one astonished glance before they turned their heads back to the spirit animals.
"Why are you here?" Klaus questioned as he still gripped his mate tight, unsure if their spirit animals had been summoned to drag them to the other side for being an imbalance to nature.
"Your witch has been killed" The two spirit beasts' booming voices spoke at the same time, shaking their entire existence. Evangeline's blood ran cold at their exclamation.
"N-no" She whimpered, "Ana cannot be dead—she was just—"
"I am sorry, Evangeline. She was killed by the vampire controlled by your mother's witch, Niklaus" The dragon spoke in a gentler tone, wanting to be considerate of her being who was obviously mourning the death of her closest friend.
"Rebekah" Klaus spoke through a humanlike growl, "Of course!"
The wolf stepped in before Klaus could throw a tantrum and Evangeline could fall into hysterics, "We are here to help you find your way back"
"Niklaus, you have the blood of the witch flowing through your veins, you can finish the ritual with Evangeline's help, seeing as she speaks the language needed" the dragon explained.
"We are the power you need to become the warriors you were meant to be" The wolf added in.
The two hybrids shared a glance before looking back to the beasts within them and nodding in agreement. Their ritual had only just begun.
Meanwhile, after seeing Rebekah stab Anastasia in the back, Mika immediately goes to attack her for ruining his cousin's ritual but after the deed is done, Esther uses Rebekah's supernatural speed to disappear from the scene leaving the young unus to mourn the supposed death of his cousin.
As Esther raced away from the scene she felt accomplished. She had destroyed her son's chances of gaining more power as the bastard that he was and finding happiness and now all that she had left to do was kill Elena Gilbert.

The Voice of the World
Jason Elric used to be an ordinary college student living in the heart of San Francisco. He had a part time job, he played online games with friends he got along moderately well with, and he earned reasonably good grades. The worst he really had to worry about in life was turning in his coursework on time and not being late to class. Now, though? Now fighting for his life and running from a horde of giant frogs that want to make him their next meal is just another Tuesday. Thanks to a summoning ritual gone terribly right, Jason has found himself trapped in a world eerily similar to the role playing games games he used to play for fun. Unfortunately for the now ex-college student, everything happening around him is terrifyingly real and if he wants to survive, he’ll have to figure out how to exploit the system for his benefit before it’s too late. The Voice of the World is the first part of what is planned to be a multi-book, Isekai LitRPG story with crafting elements, set in the fantasy world known as Verdania. This is my first time posting online for public consumption, so bear with me as I work to find a style that people like. While I may occasionally write scenes that may deal with heavy concepts, expect this story to be primarily light hearted high fantasy. There will be a lot of common fantasy tropes involved, as this story got its start as a simple practice exercise, rather than any plan to actually post it. However, it’s grown on me, so I felt it’s worth sharing after all. Thus, if you’re looking for more serious/original/unusual stories, you might want to look elsewhere. For the rest of you, feel free to leave suggestions, as well as to point out grammar and spelling mistakes; I’ll do my best to make edits to correct them. I do my own editing currently, and it’s easy to miss things when you know what’s supposed to be there, so such call outs are highly encouraged. Content TLDR: No harems, probably no romance (unless it makes sense for the story later on) (it did, eventually), definitely no sex (keeping this PG-13 or close to it), limited profanity. Does/Will contain mixes of magic and technology (think Warhammer, Final Fantasy); copious amounts of blue tables; race, gender, and sexual equality concepts; crafting sequences; and (slightly, but not overbearingly) strong protagonists. If you don’t like these things, go elsewhere instead of downvoting people for content instead of writing quality. Update Time currently varies, due to personal injury, but the goal is 1/week on Wednesdays, with a possible smaller chapter on weekends if time/health permits.

But, the rarest artifacts are found in the most dangerous ruins—those under control by the OmniLab traders. Carl is one of those traders—and Kayla’s invaded his district. He’s determined to stop her and the best way to do that is to recruit her. The only problem? Kayla hates traders. When a powerful man intent on revenge starts hunting her, Kayla realizes the only way to save herself may be to accept Carl’s offer. But that would mean surrendering to OmniLab and giving up everything she knows. Only everything isn’t quite what it seems. Including OmniLab. And Kayla’s in a lot of trouble. This is a dystopian fantasy story with strong romantic elements. If you enjoyed Hunger Games and Divergent, but want a little magic and romance in your stories ... this book will be right up your alley. Note: Beneath the Fallen City will be updated daily (the time will vary). The average chapter count is around 5k.
