'Something wrong?' He said, studying her face intensely like he was trying to figure her out.

'Nothing's wrong.' She said calmly in reply, really unsure of what to do. He still leaned against the door frame and a look that was a mix between confusion and frustration crossed his sculpted features.

'You sure?' He said quietly.

She shifted her position on the bed so she was angled completely towards him. Tucking her knees into her chest, she sighed. 'What were you doing the past month?'

'Nothing important.' He said looking briefly at the ceiling and then the ground, anywhere but her eyes.

'You need to tell me now.' She stared at him, her voice still calm.

He exhaled, his grey eyes tired. He looked like he didn't want to have this conversation. 'Why, what's got you interested in my personal life all of a sudden?'

'I want you to tell me.'

He narrowed his eyes at her, 'Why? What reason do you have to care about what I do away from you?'

She could tell by his tone she was rousing some kind of suspicion already. She decided to tone it back a notch.

'I...I missed you.' She tried to make sound genuine after hearing what she had just heard from Adam.

'You're lying.' He said flatly, he didn't seem to be accusing her of this rather just stating it. She didn't know he he was so good at detecting people were lying to him or maybe it was just her lying.

'How do you know that, what kind of trust issues do you have that you don't even trust me.'

'I don't trust anyone.' He said, his voice going calm again.

'Is that why you've been killing the Hire an Incubus agents?' She blurted out angrily, suddenly regretting letting it out at his sudden change of expression.

The red eyes were back. Wow, two times in one night, that was a new record. Expecting him to express innocence, she was surprised when he just laughed.

'And just who have you been talking to?'

'It doesn't matter.'

'Was it Adam, your little friend?' he taunted, 'Did you two have a nice little chat? Did you tell him about this afternoon? I'm sure he'd be just thrilled.'

'I'm never letting you touch me again!' She shouted 'Now answer me, did you kill them?!'

His eyes burned like flames and he just smiled 'I didn't touch you, did I Lisa? I didn't lay a finger on you.' He straightened up from leaning against the door frame and took a step into the room.

'I said, did you kill them?' Lisa wobbled, not knowing how long her nerve was going to last.

'One day you will hate them all as much as I do.' He said softly, like he was trying to hide something that sounded like pain in his voice. 'One day you'll realise why they're just as fucking bad as I am.'

'What are you talking about?' Lisa yelled at him.

'I...I can't tell you.' He suddenly looked vulnerable and the red in his eyes flickered, like there was some other part of him trying to come to the surface. But before Lisa could anything, the crack on his surface disappeared as quickly as it had appeared and his expression hardened again to something hate filled.

'Yes, I killed them.' He spat, his voice like venom. 'Because they are all worthless scum.'

Lisa suddenly felt sick. She was standing across from a murderer, a cold blooded killer. She had feelings, albeit she wasn't sure what type of feelings they were, but feelings nonetheless for a killer. She took a look at him standing there, with an immense amount of anger sharpening his beautiful features into a cold expression. Who was she kidding? He'd probably murdered countless people. Hell, he'd probably murder her and feel next to nothing.

'They are scum Lisa.' He repeated. 'And you give them your time. You trust them.'

She didn't want to know what he meant by that. She didn't want to take the time to ask him and she certainly didn't want to be in the same room as him. Turning away from him she stared at the ground. She could feel her voice getting heavy sounding and knew she was on the verge of tears.

'Get out.' were the only words she spoke as she continued to focus on the charcoal carpet. Her vision was getting misty, she wasn't going to let herself cry in front of him.

'Fine.' was all he said in reply.

'Now.' she whispered, putting all the emphasis she could into that one word.

'There's a lot of bad people in this world and I'm not the only one Lisa.' She heard him say through gritted teeth there was an almost pleading edge to his voice, as if he was warning her, but before she could turn to see his facial expression, he had disappeared.

For the first time in a while, she didn't want to talk to anyone, she wanted to be alone. Wanted to be completely and utterly left to her own devices. As she curled up in a ball and tried not to think how fucked up things had suddenly got she tried to fight the urge to cry, but like most urges of that kind, she didn't win.

The thing that bothered her the most was that despite how much she wanted to hit him or scream at him, she couldn't hate Achilles. Not one bit.

The next morning she lazed around, trying not to be too shocked when she looked in the mirror and saw her dreadful appearance. Her face was ashen and clammy and her dark hair was clinging desperately and lifelessly to her scalp.

She had expected only Adam to arrive but instead when there was a knock on her door that morning she was greeted by not only him, but Debbie and another very burly looking man. They both looked solemn and serious and Adam's face looked surprised as her took a look at her when Lisa showed them in to the kitchen where they all seated themselves around the island.

'Are you okay Lisa?' He sounded concerned, but Lisa wasn't prepared to tell him what had upset her so much and she was sure he wasn't prepared to hear it.

'I'm fine.' She croaked, pleading with her eyes that he'd switch the topic of conversation. he seemed to take the hint as he introduced the man who had come in.

'Lisa, this is David. He will be extra security for you, he'll be staying here. He'll also accompany you out.'

'Oh, okay.' Lisa said, slightly uncomfortable with the fact there was going to have a man following her every move. Was this supposed to making her more comfortable.

David smiled, he looked like a friendly enough man, and he muttered a simple 'hello' and nodded politely. Lisa realised that he was human, which seemed a bit ironic for Hire an Incubus. If they were trying to protect her wouldn't it make sense to give her the best possible advantage.

Even though if Achilles wanted someone dead he'd probably find a way. Isn't that what she had discovered he had been doing so far?

'As you can see, David is very much human. That is because we were afraid that if hypothetically, Achilles were to find you with an incubus he would be more likely to attack.' Debbie said flatly, looking at the wall behind Lisa's head. There was something not quite right about what she was saying. It sounded too rehearsed.

'Wouldn't he be less likely to attack around me anyway?' Lisa said carefully 'If he's so insistent or pursuing me?'

Debbie frowned momentarily and her voice became slightly condescending. 'Lisa, we're not talking about a lovesick jealous boyfriend, we're talking about a psychopath.'

'He has never harmed me.'

Debbie raised an eyebrow suddenly. 'You're talking as if you know him yet you only met once, unless there's something you're not telling, no?'

'Deb, don't be absurd!' Adam laughed suddenly, trying to alleviate the tension that was swiftly building.

'I'm just saying.' Debbie said quietly. 'Forgive me.'

'I've only met him once, and only once, I'm sorry, I'm just finding it very hard to trust anyone, with all this happening so quickly.'

Debbie pursed her lips and said nothing and Adam took Lisa's hand, taking her by surprise.

'Hey, you trust me right?' He smiled reassuringly.

'Yes.' Lisa said, still feeling slightly awkward with her hand in his.

'Then that's all you need, okay?' he smiled sweetly.

His closeness made her stomach feel strange, but not in the way that Achilles did. It was a different kind of strange. She smiled back.

Debbie raised her eyebrow again and muttered something under here breath that only Lisa seemed to hear.

'Wow, looks like you've got all the guys after you...'

Nobody else heard to snide remark and Lisa pretended not to. She didn't understand why suddenly Debbie had something up her ass that was making her act like this. She wasn't suspicious was she? Or jealous?

Lisa quickly brushed off that idea, if Debbie wanted Adam she was welcome to him. But that's not what she thought it was.

Debbie had left first, excusing herself after receiving a call and then it was just left to Adam and David, who was obviously staying.

'So, I'd say you're pretty sick of being cooped up in here, why don't we hang out or something?' He had asked.

'What about David?' Lisa asked, glancing at him, who was taking a bag down the hall.

'He doesn't have to come if it's me and you, I can take Achilles.' He said.

'Sure then.' She said smiling, maybe she could get some answers out of Adam. She severely doubted that he could take Achilles though.

They sat on the pier, looking out onto the crashing waves of the tide. Each wave rolled in cold and harsh.

'So...' Lisa began, 'What happened to those agents?'

Adam shifted uncomfortably. 'They got murdered Lisa, there's not that much else to it.' he said with a grimace.

'But what happened? You said you don't know how they were killed.'

'I shouldn't be telling you this.'

'Don't you think I deserve to know what I'm up against?' Lisa argued softly.

'Fine.' he sighed. 'See, the thing is, there's only one way to kill an incubus and that's not how he did it, so that makes me think we're up against something a lot worse.'

'What did he do?' Lisa pressed quietly.

'I can't tell you Lisa. I'm sorry.'

'Please.'

'He...He ripped their hearts out Lisa. Pulled it straight out of their chests.'

'Oh.' Lisa suddenly felt queasy but kept going; 'Adam, why did he get fired?'

Adam's face suddenly hardened. 'Now I really can't tell you that.'

'Why?'

'Because it's strictly confidential, it's probably the most sensitive piece of information in the whole company.'

'Oh I highly doubt that!' Lisa said humorously.

Adam sighed deeply and put his head in his hands. 'Look, Lisa please.... Just drop it.'

When she didn't say anything in reply he spoke again.

'Look Lisa, I know you're scared but I suppose on the bright side you haven't seen him in weeks and you only saw him once, honestly I'm surprised, relieved of course, but surprised. I don't think more information on him is what you need, it'll only make you worry more.'

'Well, I already know he's a murderer, what's the worst it could be?' Lisa scoffed.

'I'm not telling you and that's it.' He said, his voice becoming irritated.

Lisa just exhaled. 'Okay, fine.'

She wasn't letting this go, this was something she needed to know.
