JACE

I could hear screaming from behind the door. I wanted nothing more than to break through and stop the madness, but I couldnt. She asked me...no...begged me not to.

I knew her mom was uptight, but I didnt think it would get to the point of her screaming at her daughter. I paced back and forth in front of the door waiting for it to be opened.

"You have NO idea how our world works. I will not let you go out without proper training. I dont care if you have to train with five year olds. I will NOT let you train with those idiotic Lightwoods!" She screamed loudly. "NO!" Clary shouted back. I stopped dead in my tracks. Her voice was cold and it startled me since it was the first time she had spoken for at least ten minutes.

"You don't care if I do it with Izzy or even Alec. You just dont want Jace to do it. You think he's a bad influence." She yelled. I felt bad that their whole conversation was just because of me.

Before I could rip through the door to get her out of there, I felt a gentle, but firm, hand on my shoulder. Izzy turned me around to face her and calmly led me away from the door to the very end of the hall. We were far enough away to not hear the yelling.

"I cant just leave her like that Iz." I said desperately trying to make her understand how much it was hurting me. If I had the power to stop Clary from getting hurt I would use it. But right now I felt useless. I respected her request, but it was killing me.

Before she could respond, the door flew wide open and Clary stormed out. I witnessed a small steak roll down her face before she turned the corner towards her room.

I wanted to move towards her, but me feet were stuck to the ground. "Jace?" Izzy whispered. She was obviously worried about me. I saw Jocelyn walk out of the room and just stand by the door.

"I think if I take one step towards Clary, I might do something terrible." I whispered to Izzy. She nodded her head before responding. "I can go with you until you reach her room?" She offered kindly. I let out an angry sigh and nodded my head. "Thank you." I whispered to her.

We had made it all the way to where Jocelyn was and we were about to pass when she moved to stand in our way. "Where are you two going? Your bedrooms are not down this hall." She demanded angrily.

"I'm pretty sure you dont have the right to ask." I said with hatred.

"Actually Jace I do have the right because it involves my daughter!" She began yelling again.

I laughed sarcastically. "Your daughter can make her own decisions! She doesn't need you to tell her what is right or wrong!" I yelled back.

Without warning she took out her Seraph Blade and held it up to my throat. "You dont get to tell me what my daughter needs and doesn't need." She hissed at me.

She was thrown off of me by Isabelle. "Go." She said to me. "I can handle her." She said sweetly. I turned around and walked down the hallway.

When I reached Clary's room, I was about to go in but I heard her crying softly. I never had to comfort someone in the past and I had no idea what to do or say.

I ran back to where Izzy was. Jocelyn had been taken away already.

"Jace?" Izzy asked with confusion. "Where's Clary?" She asked me. I ignored her questions and asked mine. "She's crying. What do I do?" I asked desperately.

"Comfort her!" She said with alarming expressions on her face. "Why aren't you there doing that right now?!?!"

"How do I comfort her?" I asked Izzy.

"Start with hugs." She replied quickly.

I shook my head as if she spoke a foreign language. "With what?" I asked her. She gave a small chuckle. She placed a hand on my shoulder. "Just go and be there for her. It will just come naturally to you." She said to me. I relaxed slightly.

"Thank you." I whispered to her. She gave me a hug and pushed me off towards the bedroom.

I turned the handle of the door. I pushed it opened and slipped through. Clary was still crying, but she noticed me come in. She was under her covers on her bed, so I slid in next to her. She curled up beside me, her tears began to stain my shirt. Before I could say anything she spoke softly.

"Please dont leave me here alone." She whispered.

"Never." I said. I kissed her head and she fell asleep with tears slowly coming to a stop.
