《The Fifth Horseman - Now You See Me (Daniel Atlas Fanfiction)》Chapter 1: A New Horseman?

Daniel's POV
"Good evening, Danny. Good to see you." Merritt said as I entered the apartment that started it all 3 years ago. "I can't believe I'm saying this, but it's pleasing to see you as well." I said as I entered the living room. There was Merritt, Jack and Henley, waiting. "Dylan called you?" Henley asked. "Yeah, does anyone know what this is about? Dylan sounded urgent." I asked, sitting down on the couch next to Jack. "It is urgent, Atlas. Very urgent." A familiar voice said. We snapped our heads over to our benefactor/ FBI enemy, Dylan Rhodes. "Dylan, nice to see you again." Henley said, getting up to give him a hug. "I've gathered you to talk about an issue that has come up." Dylan said, pulling up a chair. "Issues? I don't like issues." Jack said. "No one does, kid." Merritt said. "There is a new magic group, quite like you four, except they are using magic in the wrong way. They've burned houses, stolen precious items, and robbed banks." Dylan said. "We robbed a bank.... What's so bad about that?" Merritt asked, joking around, making me remember our first magic acts together as the Four Horseman; robbing the bank in Paris, taking Tressler's money and giving it to the people effected by Hurricane Katrina. "Well, the difference is that they are keeping the money, not giving it to whom it belonged to in the first place." Dylan further explained. "Let me guess. It's going to be our job to set them straight." I said, confidently. "Yes. I want you to..." Dylan started to say. "Out show them; put out there what real magic is used for." Jack said, cutting him off. "That's correct, Wilder." Dylan said. "We're rubbing off on you, Jack." Henley said at the sudden idea. "If you put it that way, then I'm sort of scared now." He said, making us laugh.

"The group is called The Five of Hearts, and, you guessed it, there are five of them." Dylan said, putting a projection of the group in the center of us. "Four guys, one girl." Merritt said, looking at the profiles shown. "I'm guessing girl power is ring leader?" Henley asked, pointing out the girl of the group. "Teresa Monk. Out spoken illusionist who makes a stage anywhere she wants to, in the park, in a bank, in a movie theater if she wanted to." Dylan said. "Demands the attention everywhere." Merritt said. "We're not evenly matched. We're going to have to be to show them up." Jack said yet another great idea from that young, naïve brain. Where is he getting these awesome comments? Did 8 months really change this kid? "Right again. That's why I've been looking, and I think we've found our Fifth Horseman." Dylan said, the projection moving to a map of a certain southern state that I dislike greatly. "Nashville, Tennessee?" I asked, in disgust. "Do we get a name? An appearance?" Henley asked. "Nope, you'll know when you see h . . . them." Dylan said, awkwardly saying 'them', and dropping 4 plane tickets on the table with a tarot card. 'Magician' it said. "Wait, isn't this your job? To give the new Horseman a card? That's what you did with all of us." I said. "I can't. Our new Horseman would know who the card is from if I dropped it off. They're that good. Besides, it's a good bonding experience. You haven't seen each other in, what, 8 months?" Dylan said. "But..." I started to say. "Everything is paid for. Go to John Overton High School in downtown Nashville. You'll find them there. Knowing M&M, there will be a crowd in the courtyard at 3." Dylan said. M&M? Like the candy? "Wait, but...." I started to say again, but I couldn't finish because Dylan disappeared once again.

"I wonder what she'll be like." Henley said. "Wait, how do you know it's a girl? It's more than likely going to be a guy to, to even out the playing field with our opponent. Only, I'm still ring leader." I said. Why on Earth would Dylan give us a girl? It's hard enough to have Henley around to argue with, think of having another Henley? "Why not? Some girls are strong and female magicians are rare to find. We'd be setting ourselves apart with, not just one, but two strong girls." Henley argued back. "And, who gives a guy a nick name like M&M?" Jack interjected. "Well, whoever or whatever gender we have coming up, Dylan made it out that they are really good at what they do. Maybe even better than us." Merritt said, stopping the argument. "Also, I think it's a girl. He threw in the gender neutral pronouns to throw us off, to make us observe our surroundings." He threw in, making me agitated at his normal tactics to make me mad. At least we know Merritt hasn't changed. "Oh, great. Thanks, Mr. Mentalist." I said, sarcastically. "Come on, I have to go pack. See you at the airport." Henley said, getting up and leaving. "Nashville, here we come." Jack said, softly. "Yee haw!" Merritt said in a stupid country accent. "Oh God." I said. Hopefully this trip will be worth it. The kid's presumably in high school; are they Horseman material? I just hope it's not a girl. Please it not be a girl.

Updates Sunday - Tuesday - Thursday![successful participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge] Rating: This should align pretty closely with your typical MCU movie, so PG-13 for scenes of fantasy violence. There'll be gore and some swearing but not much beyond that. If that changes, I'll warn you. MC: Shaya is analytical, but begins the story emotional and impulsive. She leans towards rationality and uses this to control her demonic impulses to the best of her abilities. She begins the story as a somewhat capable protagonist, but grows in power steadily through hard work and diligence. Fights: ...I like fight scenes. They’re going to be detailed, but I won’t drown you in description of individual hand movements or footwork. I like fights that can be solved like puzzles by the audience, where creative thinking wins the day using tools you know the protagonist has at their disposal.
