《The Couple Test》Dushman haare

Rahul Chaturvedi walked out of his 3 bedroom apartment with a plan set in his mind. His mother Kavita had planned it all but she had failed to enter the Nanda house even after the death of her husband. They could have targetted Akhil a lot easily but things weren't in favour that time. He was stuck in Malaysia trying to finalise a small deal that was of course successful but never reaped him the profits he ideally wanted. He couldn't use the Nandas name either. Only Akhil and Avinash were introduced as the Nandas heir and that devalued his business proposals all the time. No one had proofs of him being the adopted son of Anand Nanda. Hell, even his mother had lost the freaking document and that's what she had told him when he asked her about it. That was his visa to enter but that failed as well. The only other copy of his adoption papers were with Anand but recently even that belonged to Avinash. He was clearly a shark. He had a fair knowledge about his cousin. In fact both the brothers were smart. They never preyed on everything that came their way. They made moves only when it was absolute necessary but that was always successful. All of their servants were faithful enough to betray their masters. He finally got the much needed chance through the event manager who had organised the Nandas Holi party. That's when he received a picture of Avinash Nanda getting cosy and intimate with a lady. He had eventually gotten hold of her identity soon after the festival and my he was left wanting for more. She looked beautiful. So much that a mere picture of her had left him painfully hard. Not many personal details of Nandas were available online and this girl was definitely not part of the circle that Nandas associated themselves with. He personally hired a personal investigator to look for some kind of information about the pretty lady but none was available. He had tried asking his uncle but he had stayed mum. His uncle, Anand Nanda only helped him financially but was never available and even that was something his cousins loathed. He had helped him with his business initially but he never taught him the secrets to run a successful empire. Whenever his mother asked her brother to teach him, he had simply said "hard work is the key to success".

"Fuck" he cursed loudly and took a generous sip of the alcohol.

He was willing to let go of his greed to become a part of the Nandas, if he had access to the woman who has become his new addiction. Only if he knew every move of his was being tabbed.

Kavita Nanda, was startled by the impatient visitor who was incessantly ringing the door bell.

"Arre aarahi hun (I am coming)" she yelled and made way to the door and she heard the door bell ring once more .

She stared at the 2 tall men standing in front of her with her mouth wide open. She for a split second felt everything come to a standstill. She hadn't expected to see them even in her dreams but here they were standing before her in flesh. They resembled her sister in law and brother. A perfect combination of the two and they looked devilishly handsome. She needed no introductions but these two weren't to be trusted. Her brother loved these 2 to bits. In fact every time he said their names, she could feel his chest puff with pride.

They smirked at her expression and waved a hi to her

"bua (Aunty)" they called out to her.

She managed to compose herself and let them in wondering about them showing up all of a sudden. This is the first time she had met them since their birth. She felt a tad bit emotional but managed to mask it with her indifference.

"Your father should be here anytime soon" she said and asked them to take a seat.

"Of course he would. He is coming here today upon our insistence" they said and smirked.

"But bhai (brother) hasn't told anything like that" She said thinking why her brother did not mention.

The door bell just rang and they made themselves comfortable knowing who exactly was at the door.

"Akhil Avinash" his father greeted them and shook his head looking at the smirk on their face. They were here with a plan.

"Papa" they sang like they would when they were kids and waited for the brother sister duo to discuss whatever they had to.

"Let's cut the formalities already , can we Kavita Chaturvedi ?" Akhil said putting an end to their discussion. "What's that you want ?" He further asked.

"To the point I see" She chimed and looked at her perfectly manicured nails.

"I want Rahul to be a part of the Nandas. And of course want him to inherit his rightful share and position" she said and looked at them keenly.

Avinash laughed and looked at his aunt with an impossible look.

"Proof of adoption ?" Akhil asked and looked at her victoriously.

She threw a copy of the legal document on the coffee table after fetching it from the locker.

"You know you will loose ?" Avinash asked this time.

"I am yashvardhan's daughter and I don't loose" she said angrily at the two young men who were literally her son's age.

"Remember, your mother literally groomed me ? She has spent more time with me than you ?" Avinash asked and waited for an answer to this question.

"You see, when these documents were made it does not talk about offering any kind of inheritance. In fact, it talks about providing you and your good for nothing son with money monthly and nothing more" Akhil said and showed her the page showing that clause.

"You should have just let it be with adoption and not unnecessarily use your head to come up with these kind of clauses with loopholes" Akhil stressed each and every word so that she gets the facts right.

Her face literally lost all of its color and she grabbed the legal document to read through the contents. She had been fighting for nothing if this was the case and her brother was letting her do that in spite of the promise to take care of her to their father. He was treating her like a freaking idiot while she sat grooming Rahul on becoming the rightful Nanda heir for nothing.

"You haven't done well bhai. You turned out to be like Shekar" she screamed at her brother who had supported her through all these years.

"Oh Shekar Chachu, who better than him to talk through us about these papers. Shekar Kansal, is the best criminal lawyer out there" Avinash dropped the little information and winked at Akhil. Of course his meeting this morning was fruitful. His uncle, was more than happy to help them and in fact he had warned him about Rahul. He genuinely wanted to be a part of the family, if she was thrown out and once for all. That made it all the more interesting for Avinash.

"But nothing can stop him from becoming a Nanda" she said knowing nothing can go wrong there.

"Oh if we keep you safe then he will forever remain a Chaturvedi. Get this right bua, he can inherit even the last penny of Nandas but never the surname. So ask your son to suck it up and get lost" Avinash said and was about to leave the house when Rahul stepped in.

They looked at one another keenly. Rahul was not in his senses to even comprehend what had happened inside as he entered his house because of the effects of the drugs he had consumed earlier. Avinash knew a drug addict when he saw one and mentally smiled at his victory. It was going to be easier than he thought.

"You better be careful" Rahul whispered dangerously in his ears. His voice wasn't clear but he definitely did catch on to the last few words. Something unsettled his mind and heart and he had no clue what it could be.

As far as he remembered, they had tightened the security. Akhil had let Shraddha know already and she had moved her workspace to their office temporarily. This time around the danger was real. The series of workplace events was a proof that their enemy was waiting for that one chance and he would strike real hard.

They had walked out without paying much attention to Rahul knowing he was not in his senses and talking to him means he has to be sober.

"Something isn't right Akhil" Avinash said worried , once again playing the arrangements that they had made to protect everyone.

"Don't tell me you are thinking about what that guy said" Akhil asked looking at his brother's tensed face.

"It's a feeling" he said and pressed on the accelerator in an attempt to get to his office soon.

"Avinash Nanda"

Avinash glared at his brother and focussed on the road. He wasn't going to leave it behind lightly. There was something about the man that bothered him even though he walked in high.

Aadhya had stepped in to the hospital that day after a few days break. She had come to hospital in between but that was more to talk about some secrets and nothing more. She was charged fully to handle patients and heal them. Nothing should stop her today she thought. However, she simply couldn't avoid the fact that Avinash occupied her thoughts most of the time. She couldn't believe how quickly they had come closer. She wasn't calling it love yet, but she had gotten very comfortable with him and suddenly it looked even better after sharing their pasts with one another. She had cursed him a couple of times earlier today for not staying in touch. Neither had she, but that was the case with both of them. They would suddenly spend an entire day together and then not stay in touch for a few days. She had decided to put that behind and focus on the GERD treatment she had to perform later today.

She was busy looking at the patient's reports and blood profile. The poor kid had severe reflux issues and nothing could heal her. No matter how strong the medicine was. She hated to put kids under anaesthesia but neither did she have a choice if the condition was getting worse. Parents always waited with bated breath to watch their kids eyes flutter open and look at them. That feeling was indescribable even for someone like her. Today was one such case and the little girl in question was a 3 year old who always had a smile on her face and she had cutely complained about how she hated to throw up stinky stuff. Her lips had curled downwards and tears threatened to spill out of her eyes when the little girl explained. She would be meeting her later today only to cure her.

Her phone vibrated against her coat and she pulled it out to find a call from his mother. She had not conversed with the lady much , but from whatever she had seen she resembled her mother in behaviour.

"Hi aunty" she greeted the lovely woman on the other side of the phone.

"I am free day after" she replied to the question about her availability.

Her voice stuck to the throat when she heard the reason. They were going to select her engagement lehenga. She suddenly felt jitters. Comfort was long gone. It was suddenly butterflies in her stomach and her heart wasn't beating regularly. She managed to hang the call and placed the phone on the table. This call reminded her the fact that, she and Avinash were coming even closer. A part of her heart welcomed the thought easily and the other part of her heart made her feel anxious. She had to put everything on hold when one of her interns on the case came inside. She had made sure that the intern stuck around in her cabin. She was getting some stupid work done by the intern only to keep her thoughts about them from invading her head again.

The surgery was of course a success and now she only hoped that the girl felt better. That would be known after she eats anything, of course after the anaesthesia wears off.

Her hands automatically unlocked her phone and she dialled his number like that's some kind of a routine.

"Hello" she heard his voice after a couple of days. The tiredness in his voice was audible even through the phone. He had been raking his head about the missing piece of the puzzle. The piece that worried him.

"Aadhya here" she said and chuckled.

"I know" she heard is reply and also the long deep breath he took right after that. He had never spoken to her this way. He was clearly rubbing on his worries to her.

"Free for a coffee ?" She asked unsure about his reply after listening to him talk so wary.

"I think I should be. Give me a moment, let me check" he replied from the other end and waited for his reply.

"I am free for the next couple of hours" he replied positive.

"Let's meet then" she said but was cut by him abruptly

"At my office. Can't go out today" he quickly added before she could suggest any venue.

"Huh , okay. See you then" she replied puzzled and disconnected the call.

He wasn't sure about stepping out with her. They had to live their lives but till he figured out what's troubling him he wasn't going to take a chance. He wasn't meeting any client. He was meeting her and she was his responsibility and he intended to keep it as his topmost priority. The enemy could be a step ahead of him but whenever he strikes, he wanted the enemy to succumb once and for all.
