Chapter 28
-----------------------------------------------
Adrian went deeper into the shades, until the distance between the camp and himself became significant.
[Grimer, come out.]
The space around Adrian distorted as the Grimer walked out. It could sense Adrian's solemn mood.
Adrian looked at the Grimer, as he tried to bear the stench.
(...F*CK! It's as horrible as a f*cking dumpster!...)
He clenched his nose as he spoke,
[Look, I want to become stronger. But I myself am not enough against many. I know that you can come out as you wish, so I want you to be involved in every battle of mine.]
Grimer looked at Adrian with it's shimmering eyes. It felt like it was on cloud nine!
Adrian tried to keep his expression from changing much, but the stench was becoming unbearable.
(...I hope I can get used to this as soon as possible...)
Adrian further spoke,
[I want to know your honest opinion about me. I need to improve myself faster. I.. have someone I want to protect & keep safe.]
The Grimer nodded understandably & said,
Adrian became shocked at first, before greed slowly took over him.
He ran up to the Grimer, as he suddenly became capable of ignoring the horrific stench.
[REALLY?! What KEY ITEMS? What can I get? Tell me more. Quickly!]
The Grimer remained unfazed as it spoke,
Adrian looked up at the sky as he screamed, as he cried his heart out,
[This... this is JACKPOT baby!]
--------------------------------------------------
When Adrian was celebrating happily, he suddenly heard a cry from his back.
As he turned around, he spotted a group of 3 goblins being leaded by a hobgoblin.
They carried makeshift wooden staff, while the hobgoblin carried a wooden spear.
The hobgoblin's body was noticeably smaller, but it's muscular yellow skin looked very resilient.

It's large teeth & nails looked menacing.
All of them were targeting Adrian, since he seemed like an easy prey.
Adrian initially wanted to run away, but as soon as he remembered about Leaf & Rose, his fear started to fade away, soon being replaced with fury.
[Grimer. Use DISABLE on the hobgoblin when it attacks. I will take care of these goblins myself...]
Adrian ran towards the trees to prevent being stabbed in his back & decided to face the incoming goblins one by one.
The first goblin ran the fastest. It looked at Adrian & dreamed of how this human would taste.
Adrian unsheathed his sword & repelled the strike from it's wooden staff.
He quickly brought up the sword & cut off it's left hand holding the staff.
Green blood spurted out as the goblin clutched it's hand as it cried out.
The other goblins looked shocked. The way they looked at Adrian quickly changed.
The second goblin rushed towards Adrian upon witnessing this.
Using this opportunity, Adrian swept his sword sideways, his blade decapitated the first goblin's head.
Soon the second goblin appeared near his left shoulder. It lifted up it's staff and brought it down over Adrian's head in a full swing.
Adrian ducked and rolled to avoid the attack.
He steadied himself and quickly made some distance between himself and the goblin.
-----------------------------------------
Meanwhile, the third goblin had already been defeated by Grimer's stench suffocation.
Grimer then headed towards the hobgoblin and blocked his path towards Adrian.
The hobgoblin snarled as he lifted up it's spear and rammed it straight into the Grimer's body.
It smirked, as if already declaring his victory, before his facial expression quickly turned horrified.
The Grimer was still standing and had broken the spear into two.
The Grimer approached the shocked hobgoblin & before it could react, quickly used POUND on it's chest.

*SQUISHH*
The hobgoblin's chest now contained a bloody hole. It's heart was destroyed into pieces.
The effect of POUND used by the level 19 Grimer could not be underestimated.
It's biggest advantage was it's ATTACK stat, which was impressive when compared to others of the same level.
The hobgoblin couldn't even curse, before it's body turned limp and it soon became lifeless.
------------------------------------------
When the second goblin tried to injure Adrian, Adrian could not evade it in time.
His sword was parried away by the goblin's strike, and the swing continued & struck him in the ribs.
Suddenly his right side of the body hurt a lot, as Adrian felt blood rushing up his throat.
He tried to forcefully swallow it down & barely avoided the next attack.
Adrian had never suffered injury like this in real life, unlike the System Space, where the injuries were all reverted back.
This injury felt too real to him & he could feel his focus being eaten away by the sensation of pain.
Exhaustion was draining his body & his body was becoming more sluggish by the second.
The goblin seized an opportunity & tried to hit Adrian's head sideways.
At the critical moment, Adrian quickly used,
(...DISABLE!!...)
The goblin's body froze midway as it's pupil shrunk.
Adrian realized the chance & quickly used POUND, targeting the goblin's head.
*SPPLATT*
The goblin's head exploded into pieces, as it's headless body fell quickly.
Adrian too lost his footing & slipped down. His head hit the ground & he fell unconscious.
----------------------------------------
By the time the Grimer looked back, Adrian had already collapsed.
It quickly hurried towards Adrian & checked his body for any injuries.
The Grimer retrieved a POTION from Adrian's bag and sprayed it all over him, quickly emptying it.
Adrian's abdomen & head injuries recovered, but he was still unconscious.
The Grimer decided to wait for some time until Adrian recovered.
It eyed the items sprawled around the bodies of goblins & dutifully collected it all inside Adrian's bag.
It sat down near Adrian, hoping to guard him, in case some further trouble arises.

Real places, people and events flesh out this fast moving, multi-faceted semi-historical series but fear not fantasy readers. There's more than enough of the magical, mystical mayhem you have come to expect from great fantasy.
