《The Earth, Forgotten》Chapter 15

The reader of this story may—at one point—come to the conclusion that the story of Isaack is repetitive. This is true; much of what Isaack does is repetitive and he repeats many of the same mistakes as he did before. But, is that not how all humans are? Do all humans not learn?
Isaack is, obviously, a human, and he too is plagued with this curse of repetition and making the same mistakes. He too makes problems for himself.
Mankind has many curses; infact, all of these curses come from the same root: intelligence. Intelligence can be thought of being the reason as to why humans make so many mistakes. Humans have faults, and as unattractive as they may seem, humans cannot get rid of them. These flaws are, too, caused by their intelligence and their ability to think—more specifically, their ability to make decisions. Commonly, humans err, and because of this many horrible things happen in their short lived lives and humans make repetitive errors.
Isaack’s story was exacerbated by his own intelligence; though multiple times in this story the sheer intelligence, creativity, and critical thinking capability of man is flaunted about, that does not mean that it is great. There are always two sides to something, both good and bad. With intelligence, magnificent things can become of it, but also, horrible things can become of it, including repetitiveness and failure.
With all of these things, a prominent part of intelligence is the curse of self awareness. A human will realize things about themselves that they had never realized before, and they will think critically about themselves more than the things around them, crippling their ability to think about the things that they need to. They will either grow to loathe themselves or love themselves, but in the end, their self awareness will ruin their mind.

With intelligence also comes the risk of insanity; this idea of repetition can lead to madness. Coupled with insanity is the need for social interaction—a human can not live alone. They must have relationships with others, whether it be romantic, platonic, or any other sort of relationship.
Even if a human has the blessing of intelligence, they have the capability of having ignorance. This ignorance can lead to them making mistakes and causing problems for themselves. Isaack had this ignorance; thus, he made mistakes that caused problems for himself. His ignorance sprung from his intelligence.
Humans are plagued with emotion; because of their gift of intelligence, they have the ability to have advanced emotions, and because of these emotions they have problems in their lives. They can have complex reactions to things that happen to them, meaning that a lot of times they can have the wrong reactions and continue to cause problems.
Most of the things that humans have to deal with are self-imposed, though they do not mean to cause them.
Another thing that the reader might have noticed is that the climates and biomes of Earth seem to be mixed up beyond repair and that it makes no sense as to why one can go from being in a tropical climate to then being and in cold taiga with a torturous blizzard. This is because of the Earth being off of its axis—at no time in this book until now was this ever mentioned, and now that it has been said, hopefully the reader will be able to understand as to why this is. The axis of Earth had been changed over time; the original axis that Earth was on was 23.5 degrees—but now, at the time of the story of Isaack, the axis that Earth is set on is 36 degrees. This change in direction of the Earth made it extremely diverse, along with the gestation period of Earth with its environment, both flora and fauna.

Beyond all of this, the Earth was very complex because of the new species. Multiple lines or “equators” were littered all across it, but the true Equator still existed and it was still hot.
The Earth also holds vast caverns and hollows; most of them have magma pools that keep them hot, and when the caves get to a certain temperature they release all of their energy and heat out into the open world; a lot of times these become volcanoes that spue lava everywhere, and a substantial amount of these volcanoes appear in the arctic areas, warming areas of them up and melting the icy blanket that usually was set over them.

Waking Up
The story of Larin the Builder in the aftermath of Awakening This short story is the epilogue of Awakening, the first book of the Chronicles of Mother's Gate series. This epilogue is a great follow-up to the novel, a bonus story that adds extra layers between books without being necessary to the main storyline.Waking Up follows the story of Larin, who is alive but unconscious after her ordeal in the Nine Hells. She awakens in A'lara City a few days later and recuperates under the steadfast care of her repentant friend Jorn.As she reacclimates to her waking state, Larin struggles with her gruesome memories of the Hells and her decision to conceal them from Jorn. This story answers the question, Is Larin all right? with a resounding yes, and some storms on the horizon. It also raises the question, What happened to her down there? and includes an excerpt from the sister story Falling Down, about Larin's ordeal in the Nine Hells. Praise for Waking Up and Falling Down: Loved it. The difference between the two stories is great! The difference between Waking Up and Falling Down is astounding. So much light and love in the first story. You feel safe reading it. Healing. The second, so much darkness, pain and despair. The choice of vocabulary is awesome and makes an impact. And this set of short stories ties the two books together so well.-- Dana V. of Texas ★★★★★
