《The Sister In The Forest(Cancelled)》19: Body Difference and Another Failed Power Testing #2

Dragging my rigorous arms through a chunk, tearing an emptiness hit on the side of the tree as I groaned from the ripped sensation that attached to my skin with an illusion that didn't appear as reality. My teeth gritted from the sight of the limited punch that I trained myself to restrain my dangerously growing super strength. Dust stroked into orbs of fog as it dispersed from the hit, revealing a long stretched road of trees having sphere dented hole shapes on the side that ran a mile long. I was training myself with these powers after running around the earth six times in an undocumented time from a fit that cooled down afterwards when I noticed the damage I have shown upon the world; revealing there's a supernatural being living on Earth. This backfired on me because it came true. I heard from the radio set in the middle of the table that two unbearably large speakers beside the ratio intimidated the students with the news that there was a supernatural creature.
At least they cheered in joy and prayed for this moment when this supernatural being arrives to save the day, right? Nah, no, no, no. Instead, they took this news and protested against this being, they all hated the being and hinted at it for the destruction and chaos it caused. Can't blame them, I would as well if it wasn't, in fact, me, for fucks sake. Another terrible fact, my footprints are steadily being found and investigated. Governments around the world saw these footprints and have commenced reversing where they came from. Awesomely though, I have learnt from the recent mistakes and only trained this speed power on the forest ground. If I felt like exploring and wanted to, I couldn't, after that sprint, I was depleted for a whole day and was hungry the entire time. The food stock was nearly emptied from me constantly eating, fortunately, they haven't found me, yet.
Right at this moment, Superspeed and Super Strength have been catalogued and are fully connected to me - I wasn't in some nightmare, dream or hallucination and everything was a reality from the moment I lost control of my speed power and crashed directly into a tree and fell into the water. It was hard to explain the reasons why it happened but I exclaimed it was just a clumsy accident, with sign language, of course, learnt that my fear of speaking in public worked accordingly well with Glossophobia. I wouldn't doubt that they thought I was a crazy freak by now. Coating my hair into a clean look, I stepped outside the tent and read the daily routine of unrested people wandering about, finding some form of a reason to distract themselves from overthinking too much. Some, on the other hand, acted casually and showed no signs of anxiousness - they were minding their own business, collecting food and glueing together, Lia was one of them.
I greeted Lia and saw her flinch for a split second but then acknowledged me with a charming smile as I joined the group. We all sat down, eh, like, eight of us sat down and grumbled at the sight of our smoking breakfast. I was next to Lia and that blonde guy who punched me, I forgot his name. I didn't see George anywhere, he's seemed to be busy, probably cleaning himself up or taking the toilet.

"Damn, I swear you look more muscled up than before, man." The boy I forgot about cackled, sticking his nose in my comfort zone as he pressed his fingers in the insides of my arm. I raised my eyebrow at him and flipped my head over to Lia, who also was gawking at my arms uncomfortably.
"I've been training…" I signed with troubling emotions as I dragged the blonde dude's skanky, rotten hands off my arm, they weren't skanky and rotten. Then I gave him an unreasonable smile and clicked my tongue at him before ending it by brushing his shoulder to make him uncomfortable in return.
"The training is very effective, you look bigger," Lia muttered, making me think she said what she was thinking out loud as she slapped her hand on her mouth to hide away from me. I nodded to her praise and questionably interrogated myself to see if there had been any kind of body changes. I didn't see any and tucked my bottom lip over my top lip in confusion before eating my breakfast while being peered at by the other unrecognisable friends of Lia.
It remained in my mind if I had changed after breakfast, so I excused myself just after I figured out the blondie's name was Lewis and went into my camp to stand in front of the mirror. I dragged my head back to get a better look at my appearance and figured something has changed, wow, my hair has grown past my shoulders, something I rarely take notice of unless it's a haircut from its bland colour. Another duty to do.
"Someone caught your heart, ey?" George snickered behind me, for some reason I didn't react in surprise like I normally do and just generally looked at him with a blank face. He was rolled over the bed sheet, covered in crumbs from the stack of crisps he was eating from as his phone was dropped under his chin, probably becoming useless when I came strolling in. I looked at the mirror again, glanced at my appearance, blinked rapidly and sighed to finish it off as I got agitated.
"Am I being pranked today? Everyone keeps saying I've changed in appearance." I signed to the mirror, seeing George's reflection crawl up from the mat and sneak his way behind me to become my blatant visible shadow. He had a smirk on his face as his arms reached high and flopped onto my shoulders, eventually massaging them. It felt nice but I smacked his hands off my shoulders and furrowed my eyes at him in irritation.
"Have I transferred into an unreal hot girl or something? What's up with you boys wanting to massage my shoulders today?" I signed with aggression.
"Can you seriously not see the difference in your appearance?"
"Uh, no, I don't remember having a sudden different look at myself."
"Is your self-esteem that painfully low?"
"What?"
"Look at yourself again, man. You have grown muscles and grown two feet, not to mention your jaw has fluctuated into a strong sturdy look." George hysterically laughed at me, snatching me by the chin and forcing me to take an actual look at myself. Oh shit, as I looked at myself seriously, I noticed my body looked stronger and had grown in size. I was so amazed by my appearance that I might have slipped into the territory of narcissism as I lifted my shirt to reveal my unnatural abs that jetted out from my abdomen and shined from the sun.

George looked at me impressed and cheered me on until the tent gate was pulled open and Lia's curious eyes uncovered themselves as her full silhouette walked into the tent and presently glanced at what I was doing and I watched her visibly follow her eyes down my body as they got wider and more intense as it grew into a long stalemate of unnerving silence. I pulled down my shirt slowly but painfully to cover up my body, seeing Lia was still stuck in her stare, which ended very quickly when I coughed to get her attention. She glimpsed at me and smiled, she patted me on the shoulders and sat down on her bed, after that, she rolled over on the side where I couldn't detect her facial muscles and it flowed into her covering up her face intensively.
"Oo, more crisps…"
It was a discomfiting moment that I wanted out of my head for a long time but it glued on like butter and tortured me as I melted the steam running off me by training on my powers the next day. I stationed my phone on a chunky tree and pressed the record button on a baby blue background app. The app was built to withstand vehicles that could speed up to fifteen thousand, three hundred and forty-five miles per hour; it came from a triangular-shaped vehicle that broke the record of the fastest engine and was counted to Mach Twenty. I made sure the phone was standing up correctly and zipped to a far destination in a second that I used math to figure out I was one hundred and ninety-six miles away. I did this before with another app that "couldn't" read the speed after saying it was coded up to at least catch a Mach fifteen vehicle.
Readying myself in a running position then deep breaths as I folded my arms behind my rear and jumped outwards with my knees to begin sprinting in slowed-down vision, I made sure I didn't use the full capability of I could meet for the fear of creating a sonic boom, which didn't help when I heard the sonic boom pop behind me as I phased through levitating autumn leaves that gave the appearance of being suspended in time but were moving slower than usual with everything else becoming soundless. I kept on running with my insufficient usage of my power until I spotted my phone looking back at me - to make sure, I dashed past the phone this time and stopped early on so I could control myself from uncontrollably flying into a sleeping tree that doesn't want to be disturbed.
Handling my balance well, I patted myself on my back and walked over to my phone, I crouched down to get closer and grabbed my phone to stop the recording. I remained crouched as I waited patiently for the results. Then as my patience grew thin, an mp4 file was installed into my gallery and I tapped my way over to the Gallery that opened to a long row of recorded videos of me testing my powers; I saw the recent video that was installed previously and opened it up to see a black squared watermark in the top left corner having bold white words spell out "MPH" with a zero before it. At first, it glitched from rendering my sprint to the spot, but a fractured second later, like a piece of it was chopped, an invisible force of the wind flew towards the phone and rattled it with an aggressive sounding rip in the background that abruptly evaporated when I showed up a microsecond later, crouching down before the recorded clip ended.
"Seriously?" I sprouted out, I was mind baffled and annoyed when I was met with a failed attempt at an answer to my speed as a black box showed up and the words on the screen read "Couldn't Calculate, Try Again". My angered groan slapped the scarred wind as I threw my phone down at the tree and sat on my butt, I rubbed the bridge of my nose and sighed, it was another failed experiment to find out how fast I was.
This was my seventh time now and none of them worked. I don't understand how these apps built to calculate high speeds couldn't read mine at all. I felt scammed, am I doing something wrong? Are these apps false? No, everyone I looked into was professional and had a percentage of ninety-nine corrections, so what was I doing wrong? Maybe I'm too fast or something, I am not sure. I for sure know that I don't run at the speed of light, I probably did when I acquired this power through rage. If I did, it seems to have decreased into a slower range.
Oh well, I might find out one day when I go on another rage moment or some insane scientist knowable enough to place a tracking device on me to track how fast I am going. But for now, it's another failed test.

8 101The Beta Test
Our nameless narrator participates in a beta test for an early VRMMO game Meridian 60. That's not the real name but it captures the spirit of the adventure given the chronological and contextual era of the game. His character is unique and special but purely for mundane reasons and not because of any inherent or social significance. The first chapter which is mandatory to submit a story on RR serves as a bit of a prologue with some exposition, although I limited that to a reasonble level. I plan to begin releasing additional chapters starting Thursday, to align with the 48 hour submission approval process and also because I have something to do Wednesday. I haven't written anything but the summary and first chapter, nor have I plotted anything out. This is because my plan is to release roughly 34000 words a day, 10 chapters of ~12.5 pages each, for 3 days at which point the story will be complete. I'd have liked to plan for more but handling the interface tables and so forth needed for a data heavy litrpg slows down the writing process. 100k words is a bit short, a standard pre epic fantasy 300 page spec fic novel, but this is mostly a writing exercise and I am considering a longer project if I can maintain the pace. Probably do a different concept, maybe a dungeon core, over 5 days, since a 500 page novel is more common these days. Slight subversion of VRMMO stories Stat heavy/crunchy No paying your bills by gaming No out of game conspiracies No angst, interpersonal drama, or damsels/dudes in distress Schedule is 30000 words a day excepting the first chapter, a limitation of RRs fiction submission system Fantasy, high magic, male lead, no party, guild, or harem No gore, some profanity, no sexual content, and no current plans for anything traumatic
