《The Hero's Prophecy》Intermission 3: Bud

It was evening. The silver bells of Nyx brought an extra shine to the stars that night. Orange-yellow light stained the night from the flames that warmed and lit every home in Townston.

In that eve, Moly sat down in their humble abode, sipping a cup of tea. Incense filled the air with aromatic smog, and dim candles brought little light to their chambers. When they had sipped halfway through their cup, their door swung open with a bang. A raptor with turquoise eyes angrily scowled at Moly from the door frame.

"You could have knocked, mister," Moly spoke nonchalantly and continued drinking.

"Moly, did you really have to send them to their dooms?" Raptor asked. Steam flared from their nostrils.

"..." Moly sipped a little bit more from their cup. "Not necessarily, but they were destined to go anyway."

Raptor sighed. "Look, Moly. I know you have awful vision, but you could have stopped them from going. They were our best and second-best warriors you sent to a doomed rescue mission. Call them back. Tell them that Buddy is back."

"Mister, I have no idea of where they are, and you expect me to be able to call them back as I wish? No." *Sip.* "Also, they have higher calling now."

"Destiny. Right." Raptor rolled their eyes. They reached out the open door and dragged a tied up and gagged insect. It had a rust-colored carapace and a pair of emerald compound eyes.

"What's with the stage assistant?"

"This is Agent Fable, an agent of Prometheus." Raptor then took out a scroll case bearing elaborate carvings of beetles filled with gold. "And this is the message I found it brought. Did you know what I found out?"

Moly only gazed in their direction with half a mind. "My magazine subscriptions?"

"What? No. This is not the time for jokes, Moly. I just found out that Prometheus has a message for you, a command in fact. Wouldn't this make you an agent of his?! And I thought you were genuine, Moly! I thought you cared for us! We're just your flock, isn't it, Moly?"

"No. I do care." Moly sipped, but had found their cup empty of tea. "Look around you, Mister. One way or another, we are all agents of Prometheus. I know. He's terrible, but do not make your hatred of him blind you from whom you are speaking to. Even agents of his cause can be victims."

"I... Why? Why does he do this to us?" Raptor's eyes began to tear up.

"I don't know. I only get his commands, not his reasons."

"I see." Raptor drooped. "What was the prophecy again?"

"The prophecy states that the prophesied one, the one with the legendary blade, will kill the monster, the Devourer, and save the Imaginarium." Moly paused. "Would you like some tea? We could read Prometheus' message together."

"No."

"What was your name again?"

"Don't worry, Moly. I got your glasses."
