《The Royal Mates》Chapter Eight

~Amorelli~
We were making our way into the small village, but my gut was telling me something was off. I didn't think we should go there. And I especially knew that we couldn't trust anyone here.
"Amorelli, I really do not like it here. My gut is telling me that something bad is going to happen."
"Zinniah, look, I'm scared too. But if you do not want to go in, you could wait here. I think that feeling we both felt was our powers coming to us all at once. Maybe you could turn into that hyppogriff now?"
"I'll try. And I'll fly to a tall tree and watch carefully. If I see anything suspicious I'll make a bird or horse noise four times."
"Okay, that's great. But be a normal bird for a little bit, like a cardinal or a blue jay. something small and noticeable but not too terribly noticed."
"Alright. I'll try. Cardinals are red, right?"
"Correct."
After I said this, she thought hard for a few seconds before there was a small whirlwind around her that enabled her to transform into a small, red bird.
"Zinniah, can you hear me?"
The little bird nodded and I giggled.
"Alright now. Watch from afar, but not too far. I do not know how well your little bird hearing is. But watch from where you can hear and see well."
The bird once again nodded and chirped four times. I noted to remember that noise. I started walking more towards the village and looked down at my clothes and immediately knew they'd take advantage of me in some sort of way. I prayed and hoped that Zinniah and I would get out of this place soon. As I neared the village I heard several growls. I looked around and saw people growling at me, and some pervy old men whistling at me. I rolled my eyes and kept walking until I found someone who looked important.
"Excuse me?" As I neared the person, they turned around to reveal a man still in his youth. I'd say the late twenties, early thirties.
"Who are you? What are you doing on our land?"
"I'm very sorry, but I need directions and I wanted to ask someone who actually looked important, like yourself. You look like a leader or helper of a leader."
"You are correct. My name is Maverick. And young one, you are on the land of rouges."
"Rouges?"
"Yes. Rouge wolves. Now give me one good reason as to why I shouldn't kill you right here and now."
"Well for starters, I said I needed directions to somewhere if you had cared to listen. And second, you do not want to piss me off."
"One, where to? And two, prove it, princess."
"One, Russia. And two, you asked for it, mutt." He growled angrily after I called him that.
I looked around and saw a pool. Perfect. I can control any water I dream of. I imagined what I wanted the water to do and it was working. I backed up more and lifted my arms towards the pool and everyone quickly jumped out. The ball of water I was attempting to create was working. The ball got larger and larger the more I moved it. Spinning, lifting, you name it, it was getting larger. As I got the ball to its largest size, I turned back to Maverick and he looked utterly terrified.
"Now, as I was saying, how do I get to Russia?"

"East."
"Which is in which direction?"
"Past that forest line and after about twenty miles you'll want to go west, so left."
"Thank you Maverick. I appreciate how we were able to do this the easy way." After I said this, I threw the water into the air, and brought my arms all the way up and clasped my hands together in the process. This caused the water to disperse over the whole village and cause it to rain for a few moments. I smirked and whistled after I heard four chirps and the small bird come flying down onto my shoulder. She then got off and quickly changed into a hyppogriff and everyone gasped. I quickly got onto her back and yelled.
"Now!" As I yelled this she started running and then flew into the sky.
"Don't let that shapeshifter getaway! She could be of use to us. And don't let that girl get away either!"
"Faster!"
Instead, she turned into a fiery red dragon, and turned around, hovering in the air. She then breathed fire and burnt two-thirds of the town's buildings. I gasped and looked at Zinniah in astonishment as she burned the village mercilessly. Everyone was running and screaming throughout the village and they couldn't do anything to stop.
"Z, that is enough!" I yelled at her but she didn't stop. After a second I saw clouds that looked gray and took the water that was contained within them. A huge amount of water spread over the village and I once again clasped my hands together and the water fell. The villages fires were put out and Zinniah once again turned into a hyppogriff and flew away from the village. After a couple of miles, we descended towards the ground and rested for a few minutes. Zinniah transformed into a human once again and she was breathing heavily.
"You alright Zinniah?"
"Yes. I will be. I just really could use some water."
"I can help with that one," After I said that I created a ball of water and brought it up to her lips. She easily drank from the water until none was left.
"Better now?"
"Much. Thank you for that Amorelli."
"You're welcome... You little weed."
"Hey, I saved your life."
"Touche."
"So, you ready to get going again?"
"Sure, but we can walk for a little bit I guess."
"Alright."
All of a sudden were heard running. I looked in the direction it was coming from and saw a pack of wolves with a certain kind of symbol on their furs. One of the people who shifted back into human form was, the one and only maverick.
"Find them! I will get them both and make them regret being born!"
Zinniah and I looked at each other in fright and I looked around and saw that we could become a tree. I pointed towards a tree and she nodded. I grabbed her arm and all of a sudden she was growing into a very large tree. She was so tall that I could see where we had to go. I saw a sign that said 'New Delhi'. Which meant we were close to a town that could help us. Zinniah stopped growing as the wolves, or rouges stopped a few feet in front of us.
"Where did they go?" Maverick asks.
"I don't know. But I smell them. They're around here somewhere. They're either close by or they just left." A girl says.

"I don't know and I don't care. I will have half of us stay here and the other half will leave to find them. Half of us staying here will go back to the village to get supplies." After they all decided on who was staying and who was going, they split up and we were left alone for five minutes. We didn't want to waste any time so Zinniah became a human again and we set off once again.
"Quick, what is something that would get us away fast? A dragon is too noticeable."
"I could disguise as one of them?"
"No. That's too risky. But we'll use that idea for another time."
"Alright."
"But seriously? Burning their village? You've got to be insane."
"I thought it was a good idea at the time."
"Whatever. We'll talk about that later. Right now we have to get out of here."
"You're right. Well, you're smart, what animals are fast but big enough for you to ride?"
"I do not know. We need something indigenous to India." I walked a little bit out of the tree line and saw elephants everywhere.
"Good news, bad news."
"Dear God just tell me now shrimpy."
"Well, weed, good news, elephants are everywhere. Bad news, mainly males are around. You'd have to hurry. The testosterone is not a good thing to be around."
"Got it. Let me see one and I'll transform into one."
"Great." After that, she looked at one and immediately turned into a very large elephant.
"Now, elephants are very smart. They never forget anything. Plus, they're very strong. Lift me up with your trunk and put me on your back." She nodded and grabbed me with her large trunk and lifted me into the air and placed me on her back.
"Alright Zinniah, let's ride."
She started to walk away but we saw some wolves in the distance and we started going faster, right into the middle of other elephants. Luckily, their scents were mixing with ours, so we were easily disguised.
"Please, just a sip! I just want a sip of water. If you give me some water I will take that as payment for clothing. I will do anything for water. Please, sir!" An old woman was begging a young man for water in exchange that she gives him clothing, but he pushed her down and ran off with a few bottles of water.
"Why you..." I mumbled and I got off Zinniah and quickly found something I could contain water in. I found an abandoned clay pot and rinsed it out behind a building. I then filled it up with cold water and walked up to the woman.
"Here, miss, let me help you." I helped her up and she smiled at me.
"Thank you, child. Thank-" She stopped talking as I handed her the very large pot of cold water. She started crying and it sounded like she was blessing me. I smiled and handed her the water.
"Child, can I offer you some clothing?"
"Yes please, but I was wondering if my friend Zinniah could also get some clothes?"
"Of course! Come, come!"
"Thank you!" As I turned around Zinniah was walking around in her slave uniform and we quickly followed the woman into a building. After about two minutes of waiting she handed us both a set of clothing that looked the same. They were beautiful. The way the colors went together and how the fabric felt, it was absolutely beautiful. I couldn't stop staring at it. It then came to my mind, that this was now mine. I smiled and started to talk to the older woman.
"Miss, may I tell you a secret?"
"Of course dearie! You can trust me with anything."
"Did you ever wonder where I got that water?"
"No."
"Huh?"
"I already know dear. But don't worry, it's our little secret!"
"Oh, alright then. Thank you for the clothes."
"Anytime dears. Take care!"
"You too!" Zinniah yells to her. On our way out, I swirl my hand and a small well appeared in the middle of her store, and it was filled to the brim with water. I made sure to add a little bucket.
"Now you will never go thirsty again. Have a good day miss."
"Thank you..." We left the woman speechless. I smiled as we exited with our beautiful clothes.

~Mordikai~
"Mordikai! Wait up!" My friends all went with me. Adelaide, Marcus, Mac, Emily, and Justin. Justin is a newly shifted and currently adjusting to his newly owned abilities. He's currently running behind us, trying to keep up.
"What! I have to find her. Them,"
"Who is them? And what is so important about this ONE girl? You had Alana. What happened to that whore?" Emily asked. Now she scares me. Considering she's Alana's step-sister. But that story is for another day, plus it's not mine to tell.
"She isn't my mate."
"Well yeah no shit. But you think this one girl is?" Now Adelaide buts in. Sheesh. They will not let it go.
"I know she is."
"How so." After Mac said this I lifted up my sleeve to show the tattoo on my forearm. It was gleaming brighter each moment.
"The mating tattoo! You've truly found her!" Marcus says in excitement. They all look in awe. However, only two of them have mates, and that's Marcus and Adelaide. And they're each other's mates. You know what they say, date your best friend.
"Not in person, no. But Miss Olivia helped me with her crystal ball."
"That's where you've been this past week!" Mac now joins in on the conversation and grabs my arm to look at it. I growl menacingly and he immediately let's go and hides behind Justin. Now they're both terrified. I laugh and then they all join in.
"Guys. I have to find her. And her friend. She's either at that place where she was in in the crystal ball, or she's headed to Russia to find me. I know she's been told about the prophecies."
"Hold the fudge up." Emily cuts in.
"Yes, Emily?"
"You said ies. That means it's plural."
"Yes. And?"
"There's more than one prophecy?!"
"No shit Sherlock."
"Hey!" I chuckled as she stood there blazing red.
"No but seriously. There's more than one that deals with just your mate?"
"Apparently so. Yes." After I said that I explained both of them.
"Oh. Jeez. I don't know what to say." Adelaide says and I just sigh.
"It is what it is."
"Wait, bro, doesn't your dad hate the idea that she's a fish?" Marcus butts in.
"Do you think I care?! And don't call her a fucking fish! You haven't lived until you've seen her beauty. She's my princess. And I'm her king."
"That's cute. But like I know you meant it in a more dominant way." Emily replies.
"Eh. Half and half." They all chuckle.
"So. Where do we start?" Justin asks.
"No idea. And to respond to you, Marcus, no. My dad hates her already. He wants me to be with Alana. But I desire my mate more than any pack member. I WILL have my mate. End of story."
"Alright chill!" Mac laughs as he says this.
"Let's go. I know she was in India. She couldn't have gotten far already."
"INDIA?" Now they're all yelling.
"SHUT IT!" I made sure to use my alpha tone on them and they all ducked their heads and stayed quiet.
"I know it's a long way to go, but we have to find her before others do. I'm sure she's very intelligent though. She has to be. I know she'll make a great Luna. So if you guys could please help me, I'll make sure you all get a week off from training."
"Oh frick yeah!" Emily and Justin high-fived and they were all cheering. I smiled at my friends and we set off in the direction that leads towards India. And from then on, we set off for our journey.

Beyond the Bridge
There are many worlds, many multiverses, and you can move between them via the Federation's Bridge network - magical gateways to other worlds. The world dubbed "C'thon" by its inhabitants - or Gamma-Theta-Nu-649, if you ask the Federation's bureaucracy - was deserted when the Federation found it. The "civilized" races had all died out centuries prior, and the wilderness had grown downright feral in their absence. Now, the lonely Federation outpost of Bridgetown is under constant threat from the hungry wildlife, malicious fey, territorial goblins, and wandering undead that surround it. The town's distance from the Federation's centers of power means that it gets precious few of the resources that it needs to stay safe and afloat. Enter the Guild of Adventurers, a plucky and disparate crew who do the Federation's dirty work in exchange for coin. One team, the first of many, crosses the Bridge to C'thon looking for fame, fortune, and (if they're lucky) the answer to a newly-discovered Prophecy. They'll get much more than they bargained for, although first they need to avoid being eaten by the local wildlife. Updates weekly on Wednesday. Chapters will be as long as they need to be for them to work, which means they can vary. If anything drops below 2500 words, I'll post an extra chapter if I have one ready. [PS: This is not a litRPG, but I do borrow heavily from TTRPGs for inspiration, and the general setting and storyline is from a TTRPG campaign I'm running.] [PPS: This is my first attempt at writing long-form fiction. I'm not trying to make a great piece of literature or have a multi-novel overarching plot, but hopefully it'll still be a fun story - let me know what you think in the comments.] [PPPS: Cover image is from a free-download wallpaper by Tyler Edlin; I do not own it, and will take it down immediately if requested.]
