Part VI
(Shuute)
I barely managed to sleep last night in the temple. But there didn’t seem to be much trouble with fuune entering Haluen. I make my way over to Rakar’s ten while Solai begins to awake herself, I’m hoping to find Solias there. I see her sitting on the dining mat just finishing breakfast. “Praise Solai for a new day.”
She looks at me with a smile. “Yes indeed, come sit with me Shuute.”
I do so next to her and she begins her small talk.
“So how did the funeral go yesterday?” She inquires with an attentive tone.
“It went smoothly and peacefully, like how Mimi would want it.” Silence washes over us as we contemplate. A thought comes to mind and I ask Solias, “Where were you all day then?”
“I was at the temple with Lord Thir, we’re trying to to find out what’s wrong with you.”
I leer at her reply and make a remark myself, “You’re not ganna even try to lie, just straight to the truth?”
Her head tilts to the side in confusion. “Of course Shuute, we’re partners and I know you’re not evil; besides, don’t you wanna know what’s going on in that body of yours as well?”
My ears flop back from hearing the last part about me not being evil along with cluelessness. “That reminds me, I’ve been meaning to ask you something… What happened that night, I mean, what did I do?”
Solias places her hand on my shoulder and comforts me. “Shuute, all you did was go savage and killed the fuune that possessed Mimi, nothing more.”
I look into her eyes with a calm passion. “Solias… If anything happened to you-“
“Good morning, and praise Solai.” Rakar interrupts as he begins to step inside the tent.

A ragging surge of disturbing energy pulses through my body. Before he fully steps inside I tackle him down into the snow. I bare my teeth at him with an intimidating voice, Who are you, where’s Rakar!?”
The imposter grins at me while his eyes glow and awful orange color. Black flames emerge from him and a powerful energy strikes me off of him.
After flying backwards Solias comes to my side.
The flames twirl around the imposter like a mighty tornado. When the gust subsides a man in black with red horns and glowing orange eyes stands before all of Haluen village. “I see you’ve recovered your strength, that’[s good. You’ll need it for Lord Kranos to finally takes his place on the throne of heaven where he rightfully belongs.”
“That voice…” Someone calls out from the crowd. Lord Thir pushes through and sticks his index finger out towards the man in judgement. “You are the last trader of Solai, the one who came before Shuute! Uriu; why do you still breath, why do you still walk upon the snow of our home Talious!? Solai should have been done with you years ago!”
The one claimed as Uriu turns towards Lord Thir to reply with a charismatic tone, “Hello little Thir. It’s been a while; hasn’t it? Your precious Solai hasn’t been good to you it seems, you look like a puddle covered in ripples.”
“Away with you, demon!”
Uriu chortles with pride and then looks back to me. “Beware the day when Solai is blinded by Araius, that is when you become our victory, the day when Kranos will be king!” Another gust of wind sweeps over and takes him away to an unknown place.
All of the villagers look to Lord Thir as he stands there staring into space. It takes a while before he breaths in heavily and then speaks. “Solias, Shuute, help me to the temple… Please…”

Lord Thir has his feet scuffle against the tile of the temple while his eyes search for a particular scroll. He moves his lips as if he’s mumbling to himself until he pulls one out. “I’ve got it!” He rushes over to the study table and unfolds it to show us.
Solias and I come and look over his shoulder to see the scroll.
He begins to describe it to us. “The day when Solai will be blinded by Araius…”
There once was a goddess named Solai
She had no home, no family, and no one to share companionship with.
One day she met Araius
A god who’s skin had a pale glow.
They fell in love and conceived a child
The first born was named Kranos.
The three lived in harmony as they began to create a world for them to live.
Talious was the name they gave this world and eventually filled the planet with more creatures.
Everyone was within joy and peace with prosperity from the three gods
But Not Kranos
He wanted more than his birthright.
Kranos raised an army of creatures who also wanted more
This army raged war onto Talious against Solai and Araius.
War lasted for many years until the two pure gods finally won with their combined strength.
Knowing that Kranos can no longer be left unchecked
Araius volunteered to be the watchdog and Solai the keeper of the day.
Now Solai is the goddess who brings light upon Talious
While Araius guards Kranos when she sleeps
Only once every one hundred cycles is when Araius is able to cast a sleeping spell on Kranos
That is when he joins Solai and embraces her with his love.
“So what is this supposed to mean?” Solai asks as she continues to look at the story.
“Uriu must be planning to somehow awaken Kranos during this day; but when will it be?” Lord Thir places his hand underneath his chin in contemplation for an answer to his own question.
“Can we make a close prediction to when this will be?” I inquire to break his silence.
He looks up to me with his grey brow furrowed. “Yes I can, but you really should stay here Shuute, Uriu said something about you being the key to all of this.”
My ear draw backwards slightly in worry as I look at him.
“Lord Thir, we need him for when the fuune come back and-“
“Can’t you see this is more important than a night raid Child!?” Lord Thir interrupts. “For now we need to keep them away from Shuute by keeping him close to his creator.”
My mind speaks out to get their attention “By staying here… I’ll be saving Talious?”
Lord Thir turns to me and gently places his hand on my arm. “Yes my friend-“
The noise of a crowd in an uproar echoes from outside of the temple.
“That must be the villagers, I guess that means I’m leader now…” Solias puts her hand on me then steps out.

Viceroy's Pride
This story could be about the Tellask Empire, ruler of a thousand suns and faced with imminent peril at the hands of the Orakh hordes. It could be about Paltai Amberell, the scion of a noble elven House, fallen upon hard times and seeking to find the key that will restore his family's name and save the Empire itself. It could be the story of his voidship, The Viceroy's Pride, powered by magic and crewed by a team of crack marines as they search for adventure and the solution to the Empire's myriad problems. Instead, this is the story of Daniel Thrush, human electrical engineer, befuddled researcher and survivor of the debacle that was first contact with a spacefaring civilization. Due to a combination of luck, magic, hard work, and more luck he is thrust into the center of events as Earth is shoved onto a much larger stage rife with semi-immortal elves and magical kingdoms that predate the Earthly invention of agriculture. Earth is outnumbered, and we have precisely one wizard. Dan. He's not very good at it, but he's going to have to learn in a hurry or watch everything he knows get torn apart by massive spacefaring empires straight from the pages of a fantasy novel. ---------- Some readers have noted that the MC tends to be weak willed and pushed around a bit. A significant portion of the story is his character growth into not being a pushover (i.e. him being passive is in the early chapters on purpose). I'm just including this caveat/warning to make sure that readers aren't surprised/upset and that they stick with it until he learns to stand up for himself. His arc begins to crystallize around chapters 25-27. If that's too long to wait, I get it, I'm just trying to do my due diligence and warn you that the character development is a bit of a slow burn. This is NOT a harem novel. Nothing against them, just not what it is. --------- Updates Monday, Wednesday, and Sunday Feel free to bother me on our discord- Discord!

An Unwavering Craftsman
Given the hereditary nature of classes, everyone expects Damien—the child of two high-tiered adventurers—to be granted a high-tier combat class of his own. Expectations are betrayed, however, when Damien finds himself instead saddled with a crafting class of the lowest possible tier: [Neophyte Tailor]. Left practically crippled compared to those with better classes, Damien wants to avoid becoming a pawn in the machinations of the nobility, desiring only to grind his level in peace while wondering why the usual rules of inheritance were broken. Was it his desire to excel by his own effort, rather than an unearned blessing from a god? Did the Five take offence at his opinions on the unfairness of hereditary classes? Or maybe it was something to do with the alien voice that intruded on his ceremony? A voice that offers great power, and freedom from the tyranny of the Five, but that never names its price. This story is litRPG-lite. While the class someone possesses controls most of their lives, people don't get dinged at for every level they gain, nor can they see their status without undergoing a special ritual. The MC has no romantic interest. Crafting is merely a way to game the system, and doesn't feature heavily in the story, aside from a few descriptions on how they're carrying out the system abuse. There is, on one unfortunate occasion, maths. The pace is quick. This was a participant in the Spring 2022 writathon. (i.e. it was posted as-written at high speed. I may give it another editing pass in the future.)
