《On the way up》The wilderness and a friend

At dawn they all stood together as so many times before. At first glance, one would not think they were soldiers. Men of all kinds stood there talking. Not a man was on guard and not a single one stood right. In armor they were, but that was the only thing that identified them as soldiers. Such as they stood relaxed and out of format, they looked more like a large bunch of mercenaries. Suddenly Dave got up and went up so he could be seen by everyone in the herd.

"All right." He mumbled quietly as he stretched. Crunching from his back that gave way, sounded louder than his words had, but every man had heard him and stood up in line. Captain 30 seconds out. try to look like we did not drink ourselves completely in the fence last night ”Mumbled Dave before he even straightened up completely.

When the captain finally reached the corner, the motley crowd of drunk people had turned back into the perfectly lubricated machine for which the human army was known. "Good to see that you are punctual" Started the captain.

“I have our guide with me, let me introduce Jackal Moonshine and his son Fenri Moonshine. They will guide us through the desert to our destination. ” Told the captain quietly as he struck with his hand against the two wolfkins that accompanied him.

One was clearly an elderly gentleman, although his fur on his face had turned gray, his body was still strongly built, with a distinct blue coat. Every single movement was driven by big strong muscles that had clearly seen their struggles. This old warrior, who was the only way Dave could describe him, carried himself in a way that showed he was confident in himself and feared nothing. His armor made in large heavy iron plates, made him almost look like one of the nobles' personal bodyguards.

His son, on the other hand, looked completely different. Instead of his father's faded blue and gray fur, the young Fenri had such a black coat that it looked as if he had disappeared into his father's shadow. As armor, the young Fenri wore only a simple leather jacket and a pair of loose leather shorts. What really made him stand out was his eyes. They were different from what Dave had thought possible.

It was normal knowledge that wolfkin had two eye colors. There was the deep brown that most wolfkins that came to town had. There was a saying that as deep brown as a wolfkin's eyes were as great was his greed and curiosity for new knowledge.

The other color Dave himself had encountered in the one wolfkin in the company which had the spark. His eyes were completely golden. It looked like they were made of gold. Many robbery stories had over time been told about how that, a wolfkin who carried the spark, could get any woman he directed his golden eyes at. Dave had also heard that there was nothing better than meeting a wolfkin's golden gaze while giving him a blowjob. But that was not something Dave had experimented with.

In contrast, Fenri stood there, with blue-green eyes. Dave's gaze was completely locked on these different eyes. Fenri stood quietly behind his father, studying the company. "Goodmorning everybody. As your captain mentioned, my name is Jackal Moonshine. I am your primary guide through the desert. ” Said Mr. moonshine, catching every soldier's gaze.

“I will guide you safely through the harsh climate of the desert, on your way to the city of dwarves. Along the way we will meet many monsters and many strange phenomena, so it is important that you stay close and obey my orders. With me, as I said, I have my son Fenri, he will act as your secondary guide, if something has to be investigated along the way, or should something happen to me, Fenri will take over the command. ” explained Mr. Moonshine.

Captain Fatan took the floor as the next. "Good folks, as Mr. Moonshine has told us, we're going to the city of the dwarves, they're having problems with a large group of monsters that they can not suppress. They have officially sent a request that we come and help them out of this predicament. " Explained the captain.

One of the slightly older men asked loudly "Sir what stops them from beating this enemy back themselves?"

"It's a good question, private. The problem lies in two things. First, before the dwarves discovered that an invasion was underway, they had been pushed out of a good portion of their lower and upper layers of their city, so they could not get to use their advanced defense structures built into their city. The second is that the dwarves have invested so much in these defenses that their standing military does not have the training needed to repel the monsters. That is why they have asked us for assistance. ” replied Captain Fatan.

"But enough about that, sergeants get your people started packing, we're leaving in 30 minutes. Durue came here. ” shouted Fatan loudly before turning to the two wolfkin’s.

Dave calmly walked over to the captain while studying the young Fenri. "Durue signs up for services" Dave said loudly as he nodded over to them. "Good to see you're still functional. But of course it's not your first round of drinking." The captain laughed.

"That's right Sir. My father managed to teach me how to handle my alcohol" Dave replies a little sleepily at the memory of his father. "was with him on the battlefield and can say that you do him the art after frighteningly good" said the captain before turning his gaze to the wolfkins again.

"Gentlemen, meet Dave Durue, he is our local strategy specialist and agility monsters. Hope you can work closely together." Commented on Fatan while exchanging greetings. "Durue, that name sounds familiar, where do you come from kid?" asked Mr. Moonshine.

“I come here from red stone, but if the name sounds familiar, it's probably because it's a joke on my real name. In the old language it means of the street and my real name just means the street. I grew up on the streets my family built themselves. ” Dave replied proudly.

Some time passed while Mr. Moonshine stood thinking before saying anything again. "If we use the old language, then the street will have to be translated into rue, by all the storms of the desert, you are Davelius Serpina's Rue," cried Mr. Moonshine, before dragging his son down on his knees in front of Dave.

“We sincerely apologize for not recognizing you immediately Sir Rue. We should have recognized it right away, they hold them in the same way as their ancestors. ” Half shouted the old wolfkin while his son and Dave looked at him in complete shock.

I'm happy for this respect Mr Moonshine, but I do not know why they bend in the dust, if they knew my family, they would know that we do not want some to bend in the dust for us, no matter what rank they have. And if they know my name, they know it's not my name anymore. ” got Dave chattering off of himself quickly.

"As always, the Rue family is generous and relaxed about their power, they sound like they do not even know what makes me lie here in the dust in front of them." asked Mr. Moonshine.

"They are absolutely right sir. I do not know why they are sitting there, but they do not want to raise them so we can talk properly again." Dave asked, quietly.

“See son it's a real honorable family, they do not feel the need to tell their story further, not out of pride, but because they really do not see it as something special. Although young Davilus ’great-great-grandfather rescued my father when he was a very small puppy out of a storm that was supposed to have killed him, his family does not keep it over ours. You can learn a lot from young Davilus here. So stay close to him and see what you can learn. ” said Mr. Moonshine as he worked his way back on his feet.

“It was actually a really good idea, you two take the trip together, I want you guys on scout posts, constantly moving in front of us. Then you can also show Dave your little trick. So have time to go and talk and get to know each other. Knowing that was what both my dad and your great-great-grandfather would have wanted. So now be some talented young men, and get to know each other as we travel through the desert. ” exclaimed Mr. Moonshine happily. While patting them both on the shoulders. "Good that you find out, but we are getting ready to leave, so you have to talk further along the way." Captain Fatan interjected quickly.

Exactly 30 minutes after the captain had ordered to pack, everyone was ready to leave. “Good people, this will be the first trip out of town for some of you. Remember your training, and then you will probably manage out there without the big problems. ” shouted Fatan. "Forward match" was the last thing he shouted before the whole company began their march towards the city gates.

It was like night and day to get out through the gate. On the one hand, a big city that thrives and on the other hand wilderness, not a single house or tree to be seen in some places. The only thing there was to find was sand sand and more sand. Dave could feel a shiver in his whole body, this was new. Everything in Dave shivered ready to go out and explore the world. The last time he had felt this deep desire to just run as far as his legs would carry him was while his father was still alive.

"Calm down now, Davilius saves the energy that is far to the first oasis we can rest on." Fenri said calmly as he stood laughing at how Dave almost jumped around the place as soon as he was free of the gate.

"You can just call me Dave, everyone else does." said Dave as his eyes kept wandering around to see everything there was to see.

“I will do that in the future, but I meant it, by saving the energy, you are not built to walk around here in the sand, your narrow short feet sink too much in, so you spend too much energy walking, so don't jump around like that. ” said Fenri again.

"I could feel myself sinking in, but I do not do that anymore, it was not something a little bit of combined ground and wind magic could not fix." replied Dave, pointing down at his feet. Fenris' eyes quickly found their way down to Dav's feet, where he could see Dave standing on top of the soft sand, as if it were solid rock.

"Isn't it just harder to use mana to control the surface you stand on?" Fenri asked in astonishment. "I can not feel the bit here in my reserves, I produce more mana than I use right now." Answer Dave happy.

"Should we see to come forward in the front, you know the way, and we should act as scouts for the herd, and it's a little difficult when we stand here in the middle of it." said Dave grinning as he looked at Fenri. With a big smile, Fenri set off and started running out into the desert. "Try to see if you can hold the trip" he shouted over his shoulder.

It turned out that Dave could easily hold trip with Fenri. All day they ran in front of the company, fluttering back and forth, always in motion. Even as the company took a break in the middle of the day, the two boys kept running around them in a large circle.

When night fell and the tenant was set up, the two boys came running side by side into the camp again. Sweat dripped from both of them but just as tired as they looked just as big smiles were smeared all over their faces.

Suddenly they both took a giant breath, and turned towards each other. “HA I was fastest…. what do you say I was clearly the fastest ”they both shouted in unison. “I was at least 5 cm. in front, ”shouted Dave.

"Ha it's something you think my snout reached in before your fingers were as much as near the finish line." shouted Fenri.

"So so boys, as far as I could see were in just as fast." interrupted Mr. Moonshine. "Damn father, you can not believe that a man like him can be as fast in the desert as me." exclaimed Fenri indignantly. "Yes, I can, but now he also cheats. If you also used magic, it would end completely differently." his father grinned happily.

Fenri stood for a while, looking confused at his father. "How does he cheat?" Fenri asked wondering. "He uses magic, how else do you explain that he can stand on top of the sand without sinking in?" asked his father cheerfully.

“Well that, no it is not cheating, if he did not do it, he would not have been able to complete the race. That's just what makes him fun to compete with at all. ” Fenri replied happily.

“Okay it's okay then…. there is food over the fire if you are hungry. ” his father mumbled quietly as he shook his head. Both boys had quickly found their way over to the fire and fished themselves a few good pieces of meat.

Dave was the first to break the silence that fell over the two boys as they munched on food. “You fenri, I have been wondering about something. I have seen wolfkin with brown and golden eyes, but never anyone with blue-green like yours is. May I ask why yours look like this, ”Dave asked gently as he wiped his mouth.

"You can do that," Fenri replied with a big smile as he had sunk his mouthful of flesh.

"Haha okay so, why do you have blue-green eyes when every other wolfkin, either has brown or completely yellow?" Dave asked grinning. “It's funny that you have not seen any before with blue-green eyes. It just means I'm carrying spark, but it's the dark spark ”Fenri replied calmly.

Dave sat for a while thinking as he chewed an extra large piece of meat into himself. "Cool, so you do not have to develop the light cube to know if you carry the spark, you just have to look each other in the eyes?" Dave asked a little uncertainly.

"Yes more or less, the first few years we all have brown eyes, but over time they change if you carry the spark." replied Fenri between bites.

“Cool, do you have any items yet? and may I ask what your curse sounds like? ” Dave asked very carefully this time, everyone knew that the curses were often very personal and often something people were ashamed of.

“It's no problem you ask, it's actually a bit of a point of pride for some of us wolfkin, that had the dark spark, we almost all get the same curse. I'll show you my curse tomorrow. I have a level 3 wind element under my control, what about you, you are obviously spark carrying, and will think it is a ground element you have, otherwise I can not see how you did it with the sand. ” said Fenri cheerfully.

“Looking forward to seeing your curse tomorrow. yes i have a level 2 ground and a level 1 wind element under my control. I know it's not usually polite to ask, but may I ask how high your other dice hit? ” Dave asked as he tried to find his bottle of water.

“Dam dude two items and you're leaving town for the first time today? It's well done, but mine is just stronger than your two. ” Fenri grinned as he handed Dave a bottle of water.

“And I do not mind you asking, but it's probably because it landed on a big six. what about you?" continued Fenri. "Cool dude, I even hit a six too, mine is just sacred as opposed to yours." laughed Dave loudly before raising his hand, without hesitation Fenri met his raised hand in a loud high five.

Along with the sun, the tenant got up quietly the next morning. "Good morning Dave" Fenri mumbled sleepily as he stretched. "Good morning fresh and well rested?" asked Dave, and seemed like the day before as if he could scarcely bear to stand still.

“Fresh enough to ground you today. Now that I do not hold back any longer, I will probably have to prove who is the fastest here in the desert. ” busted Fenri confidently.

“Okay I look forward to seeing that. What is your curse? ” asked Dave, rubbing his hands together in pure excitement. "Wait, we just have to agree on a few things, because I can not talk while my curse is in effect." Fenri interjected quickly.

“Okay what are we going to talk about? and why can you not speak when your curse is active? ” Dave asked confused. “Yes, you see, first of all, we should have agreed on our route today, I can not tell you that while we are running. Secondly, for you to see why I can not talk while my curse is active. " the answer Fenri.

"When it sounds sensible, you have a lot of maps and some points I need to keep an eye on so I can find our route." Dave began before suddenly looking wonderingly at Fenri

“Hey wait it sounds almost like you can control your curse? I've never heard of anyone who could control their curse before? You have to explain that, ”Dave exclaimed suddenly.

“Here is a map, and on the back of it is the description of the points you have and work with. Most people can not control their curse and just have to take their precautions, but we wolfkins have found that if we give in to the curse and work with it instead of against it, we can control it. ” Fenri replied, before making a small whirlwind between them.

"As you can see, I can use my magic without anything happening, but I am much stronger when I give in to the curse." tell Fenri, “but enough talk. We have to see if we can get to our posts before they expect the first report back. ” said Fenri before taking a few steps forward and leaning forward.

"Try if you can keep up" was the last thing Fenri said before his form changed.

Out of Fenri exploded a black light. Who almost blinded Dave and the two guards. When the light had gone down, Fenri was gone. Gone was the wolf-like boy that Dave had raced with all day yesterday, and in his place stood a giant wolf. In addition to the wolf's enormous size, it bore Fenrie's color pattern and there in the middle of its face, there were a pair of deep blue green eyes that revealed to everyone to see that this was no ordinary wolf.

"Wow Fenri, you're huge, next time I think I can ride you without the big problems" Dave shouted as he drove around Fenri to see him from all sides.

"It's definitely something we have to try at some point, so if you don't mind," Dave exclaimed as he looked Fenri into his amazing eyes. His eyes only now Dave noticed had also changed. They were still their green-blue color, but now there was also a beautiful golden ring a little outside his iris, which was only visible when you got really close to him like now. Fenri just took and pulled on his now huge shoulders and laughed. Dave translated it into something along the lines of, we have to look at it.

"You look really cool, Fenri, but is that magic stronger in this form?" asked Dave, still studying Fenri. in response, Dave got a snort from Fenri and two large vortex storms appeared out of nowhere.

“Okay I can see what you mean, that looked way too easy. But enough about what you have busted so much about that you can win over me now that you also use magic, shall we let it come to a test? ” Dave asked as he got ready to run himself. Fenri just smiled big and tensed every muscle in his huge body.

One of the guards standing at the end of the tenant raised one arm with a big laugh. “In the squares… ready… .. start!” he shouted as he tore his arm down as fast as he could. Suddenly, the two boys exploded towards their first checkpoint to reach before circling back and reporting what they found.

After many hours of hard hiking, the company finally got over a sandbank and got a view of their next resting place. On the horizon could be seen a huge rock protruding from the ground for no apparent reason. At the foot of this cliff they could all just sense a little green color, which at once broke this monotonous march, which from the time they left the city until now had consisted of sand, sand, and more sand.

From the rock you could also see a cloud of dust that slowly grew bigger and bigger. Many of the soldiers start shaking with fear. Everyone knew that only the strongest could survive a sandstorm if they did not have the opportunity to seek out lies. The tents the company had with them would never be able to withstand a sandstorm, so if it hit them, they would have to hope that their sparks could stop it somehow.

It got worse and worse with each passing minute. The sandstorm was heading straight for them, and would be over them in a few minutes, there was no chance that they would cope with it, and on top of that, both their scouts were still out checking out the landscape. With one sounded Mr. Moonshine's strong voice. "Calm down folks, it's not going to hurt us, try to look at it again." he shouted so everyone heard him.

The soldiers did not understand what he wanted them to look for, but suddenly two figures began to appear through the storm. slowly it became visible to everyone what it was they really saw. The sandstorm was not a solitary sandstorm, but the product of how quickly their scouts came running back toward them.

Fenri looked like a monster running like crazy. The sand stood around his ears and his large paws gnawed far into the sand every time he hit the ground. At the same time, even a blind man could see the wind whirling around him. it was clear to everyone that he was doing something with his wind magic.

It was far harder to describe what Dave was doing. It almost looked like he was skating across the sand. No matter what it was he did, it had the effect that he could trip with Fenri. Only 30 seconds after they became visible, they were ahead and the mini sandstorm they had whipped up, behind them, hit the company like a hammer. When the storm subsided again, both boys stood breathing and gasping for breath.

"Okay Fenri, you win, in the long run you are the fastest, I had not been able to keep that sprint up for many more seconds." exclaimed Dave as he could get air again.

"You may not be able to keep that sprint for very long, but neither can I." replied Fenri as he was transformed back into his more human form. "I would say that at optimal speed, you can get through the desert faster than I can." interjected Dave.

“Yes yes but you can beat anyone on the short piece. Can't fathom at all how you figured out accelerating yourself up to such insane speeds. It took me a good while to do the same and my wind element is higher level than yours is. I never think I will be able to use wind like this in battle, it was easy enough when I only had to think about making a vacuum right in front of me, but honestly using it in battle, I never think I will be able to "interjected Fenri , before collapsing on the sand.

Dave had just enough air to turn on the captain and Mr. Moonshine. "Reporting that everything is quiet and there is nothing in between us and the oasis" reported Dave. "Good to hear soldier." the answer Captain Fatan.

"Requesting permission to faint from exhaustion" Dave asked, starting to sway dangerously from side to side. "Permission granted," laughed the captain. By the time he had finished saying that, Dave had fainted.
