《Mortal》Prologue

Our tale begins with a young ranch boy lazing about just killing time...
"Ehehehe~" I chuckle to myself in the hay. I'd just finally succeeded in one of my life goals. That is, I managed to dive from the ledge jutting out at the top of the old barn into a cart of hay. And it was awesome!! I felt like an assassin, not sure why though, I mean why would an assassin jump into a pile of hay? Its not like people wouldn't notice an entire person falling from the sky. Well, maybe if they were really small or if they were using some sort of cool magical power... Speaking of which the harvest festival is coming up, maybe I can meet a mage there and they'll teach me the arcane mysteries!
If I could convince a mage I had the talent I could become his apprentice and that opens so many doors. And its waaaaaay better than this ranch life. I mean seriously, no one wants to look after nor clean up for, the animals we raise here. We raise giant moths called Behemoths which just happen to be useful, I mean what other animal exists which has wings it can't fly with but fortunately is the perfect location to grow cheese and are protected by all the cheese lovers in the world. And the variant of the species we grow on our ranch also produces milk (in exchange for a couple of extra lakes worth of crap). I don't even know why they decided to name the mutated bastards Cream Behemoths; I mean they are as blue as a cloudless sky!
Anyway my point is, if I could become an apprentice, I can work up to being a mage and then once I understand my powers I have the option to join up with one of the local militia groups or if I'm good enough maybe join the army or guards. Then I just work my way up and get my name known and next thing you know I'm a fully fledge master of the arcane with countless spells at my disposal crushing armies and conquering the hearts of women throughout the land. Not to mention the sweet reservoirs of gold mages are known to earn.

But first, I need to something to amaze a mage enough for him to consider feeding me, let alone teaching me magecraft.
Hopping out of the cart I dust myself off and grab my flask I placed nearby prior to my aerobics. Taking a swig of it I put it back onto its place on my belt and prepare to practice my magic. I enter my mage pose; elbows tight at my sides with my forearm outstretched to the skies, knees slightly bent and breathe steady. Focusing on my core I attempt to draw in the energies of the world as I begin to chant.
"Da mihi virtutem..." I plead to the mana in the air around me.
"Ego enim infirmi..." I ask to lend its strength.
"Da mihi virtutem..." I plead once more. For good measure of course, not because I thought it wouldn't work.
"Ego quaerere imperium!" I scream as I release the energy that had built up within me.
The air before me grew dense as arcane powers worked their magic beginning to form something from the pieces of energy which dwell within us all. Bit by bit, little motes of light came together and an object began to take shape. Drained from my first attempt at magic and amazed the random chant worked, I simply watched this marvel only a power like magic could achieve.
Maybe I was gifted a genius!! In the future the peasants would cheer my name through the streets 'Our Super Amazing Magic Emperor of the World Proh Logg' as I bestowed gifts of magic upon their mortal souls as I reigned as Supreme Leader of the whole world. Entire continents would kneel before me at the flick of my wrist; wary of both my power and wrath!
...Oh it looks like it's almost finished.
Stepping forward I put out my hand to catch the object that had been steadily made whilst suspended in the air, wouldn't want to dirty my soon-to-be artifact of legend now would I? The lights slowly began to fade allowing the solid behind it to come into being. "Now I think about it this has taken quite a while hasn't it, it must have some truly terrible power mwaha-" suddenly the object drops into my hand.

"What the h-"
*crunch*
Before I have a chance to identify the rather fluffy creature I gave life to further my head is struck and I feel a wet trickle begin to flow from it. The world around me grows dark but not before a second blow strikes me once more, ending my life and my dreams of becoming the Super Amazing Magic Emperor of the World... which come to think of it, the name was a bit long.

Ancient Bones: The Changed Ones book 1 (Post-Post Apocalypse LitRPG)
Is it truly an RPG Apocalypse... if no one can see the RPG? Generations after the Fall, Mankind has achieved a balance in a world it is no longer the master of. But your prospects in this Malthusian world are limited. Johanna Milton and her friends have an answer: delve into Ancient ruins, avoid Changed beasts and mana pockets, and salvage Ancient materials, collectibles, and trinkets to sell. It pays well if you avoid the perils of the Ancient world. But when they find the skeleton of an Ancient, their lives take a strange turn. Suddenly, Talents straight out of fantasy novels become theirs. While they try to make sense of what happens, eyes turn to them, to the four who seem to break all rules. Or are they merely following them? Because, in the Beyond where he's spent 150 years waiting, one dead Ancient knows the truth. Douglas Moore has played those games often enough when he was alive to make sense of the System that rules the Changed world. He can no longer act on his own, but he has access to the Interface. And four people for which he can bring whatever it takes to face the world. Change is coming. The Changed Ones is a slow-burn litrpg fantasy trilogy (Ancient Bones, Ancient Books, Ancient Bonds) set on Earth, 150 years after the RPG Apocalypse... which mostly failed. It is an homage to the venerable ancient RPGs of the Golden Box era, the Baldur's Gates, and many others, offering adventure where You must gather your party before venturing forth. Keywords: LitRPG, realistic setting, low-leveling, post-post-apocalypse, fantasy earth, slow-burn, secondary POVs, female primary MC, team adventure, worldbuilding. Trigger warnings: casual swearing, adult innuendo (no explicit scenes whatsoever, though). Oh, and potentially a bit of politics. Bonus content: a Litrpg Easter Egg hunt. With lots of eggs across the book, some easy, some hard to find. Current score: 6/20 (20 eggs, 6 found) Publication schedule: on hold until September for book 2.

Twoen
The struggle for an interesting game has been the story of my life for quite some time. Every game I find is either too easy, not interesting or too short. Luckily, my two brothers who match my level of skill, albeit in different areas, tend to spice things up. When I look at my older brother I have no idea how he gets anything done when he's such an idiot. Still it doesn't detract from my respect for him as a gamer, though maybe a little. When I look at my younger brother I marvel at the monster that my older brother and I created. Deadliness, craftiness and quiet, both in what he does and how he is. When it's just us three we tend to destory everything in our path. So normally we tend to compete rather than team. Although that isn't to say we're just good as individuals. When we work together our effectiveness multiplies rather than lowering. Well enough about us dorks. Anyway a new VR game came out, apparently in development for quite some time. Of course my older brother decided to drive out and buy three copies. What would this one be missing? Difficulty? Depth? Length? In any case I plan to reach the top before my brothers do. It was a competition after all. Twoen had all three things I normally yearn for in spades. Something I did not foresee. A keeper

Sinner's Resolve: An Agent's Wish
A demon that had never batted an eye while mercilessly reaping the lives of many. A prodigy who accomplished the impossible. A hero that dutifully followed his orders. A messiah of the people. Many titles were given to him, whether it be in praise or in fear, but only one thing could be agreed upon by the people...All who he had ever crossed paths with had met an untimely death. He slowly rose to the top and earned himself the name of Black Death. A nameless person who was eventually awarded a cursed and bloodied name... Must this continue?...... He stared at his hands before turning his gaze towards his next three targets. Their photographs were neatly aligned along his makeshift table, accompanying him inside of a dimly lit room. Each one of them had earned their seat as the best special agents within their respective organizations. There must be a way...There has to be a way... Shaking away his thoughts, he quietly pocketed away the photos before exiting the room. A chance meeting that would forever change his cruel fate, and a wish that would transcend worlds. This is the story of a man who had nothing yet lost everything but a single wish, a silver lining that would completely change his life. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Author's Notes - Hello everyone! This is my first work and I will hopefully stay around for a while. I will try to finish or at least expand on this piece of work for quite some time, expect a few hiatuses in between though, still have a bit of schooling to do. Expected release dates will probably be once a week(not sure yet) after I stabilized the novel a bit as I'm still debating on how I should handle this. I prefer fleshed-out works compared to quick releases, but it also depends on how I'm feeling. I don't have a lot of confidence in my writing skills and I believe that my writing style is a bit weird, but I do want to try my best to tell a story that's worth telling. I will gladly accept criticism but please try to pull the punches back a bit! I'm still only human after all. Very excited to work on this, please take good care of me as I proceed on this journey with all of you! P.S. If you're going into my series, expect to see cliches sprinkled here and there. I personally love cliches and a few tropes! But, that goes without saying, I want to put my own spin on them. Be ready to feel the edge!!! Heh.
