Sage's POV
Kian brings us to his house, that is about 10 minutes away from mine. We pull into the drive way and I hop out of the truck, dropping my cigarette on the ground and stepping on it. I walk towards the front door and Kian puts his arm around my shoulders unlocking the door, and closing it.
~~~
I slowly open my front door trying not to make any noise. Kian and I hung out, chatted and smoked until now. It's 1:00AM and I'm trying to sneak up into my room. I slide off my combat boots and walk against the wall and go to step onto the stairs and the floor creaks.
I cringe, and stay in the position with one foot on the step and the other on the wood floor. After a minute I continue up the carpet stairs. I get up to my room, close the door and turn my lamp on. My room is a disaster. There are clothes everywhere, my bedding isn't on my bed, my make up is all over the floor. I sigh and start to pick everything up.
I finish picking up everything and make my bed. I plop down onto it and look at the time 2:07AM. I lock my phone and fall asleep.
I wake up to pounding on my door again. "What?!" I yell out and more pounding happens.
"Let me in!" I hear Sam yell from the other side of the door.
"What?!" I say getting up and opening the door.
"Where did you go last night?" He says and walks into my room.
"Places." I say and cross my arms looking at my attire. Shit. I didn't change. Or brush my teeth.
"Sage. Where did you go." He says and walks over to me. I see him sniff, and I look at the floor. "Why do you smell like smoke?"
"Um. I don't know what you're talking about." I say nervously, and try and walk past him, but he places his arms on either side of me.
"Breathe." He says.
"Sam. Is this really necessary."
"Yes, it is. I don't want my little sister to be smoking and hanging out with a douche bag."
"He's not a douche bag! You don't even know him!" I say and try and get out again.
"I might not know him, but I know what he does to girls. Sage, he's not good for you." He says and points to the bathroom. "Go clean up, you reek of smoke."
"Not until you tell me what he does to girls." I say and sit on my bed crossing my arms.
"Okay, he uses girls. They are his toy for a few days, he fucks them a few times, then never talks to them again. I don't want you to be one of those girls, Sage." He says and leaves my room, slamming the door.
Steps of the Immortal Tree
Evan stood on a hill, staring calmly at the gate of his former clan. A crowd waited behind him, some eyeing the clan in an unresigned manner, others looking at their spiritual support. Some of the young children shivered at the gnawing cold. Wind howled in his ears, seemingly deploring his fate. A silvery cloud drifted over the mountains surrounding the compound. The roar of a river could be heard from underneath its frozen surface. He had reincarnated many years ago. Hailed as a prodigy from his youngest age, Evan had seemingly tread on a path to invincibility. He had gotten married with his childhood sweetheart and had cultivated with a group of friends, forming a considerable power of his own. Yet now, here he was, devoid of any path to move forward, with his energy locus destroyed. His wife was dead and his branch had been kicked out of the clan. He looked at his progeny that had been entrusted to him. The baby seemed content in his father’s strong arms, too young to understand anything but the warmth of the father’s beating heart. Signaling to the people behind him, he turned around and the procession gradually disappeared in the distance, as the sun gradually set and the stars acted as a guide. --- Author-san here.
