《Four Elements High school》Chapter 22: 3 days- Part 4

This update is pretty late at night, but I wanted to get it out since Wattpad will be unavailable tomorrow morning.

Mai never thought that she would find a kindred spirit in Toph, but there they were, jamming out to death metal in Zuko's car, screaming the excessively profane lyrics for everyone in the prissy, uptight neighborhood to hear. And Mai was on top of the world until her phone vibrated in her pocket. It was Suki.
Mai sighed.
"I going to go help them. You stay here. In 20 minutes, drive the car up in front of the mansion."
"Mai, I'M BLIND!"
"Whatever," Mai ruffled her messy, untamed hair, "I'm sure you'll figure it out." She put her phone back into her black handbag and started walking towards the mansion. She had been to Azula's place before. There were around five sliding glass doors on the ground floor. All she had to do was distract Azula long enough for Suki, Sokka and Zuko to get out. She walked up to the gate. There was no one to open and close the gate, so Azula had probably paid them to leave for the weekend. Of course Azula couldn't be bothered to close the gate, so it was left wide open for Mai. She sighed and walked up to the front door. She hesitated for a moment, before shrugging and ringing the doorbell. She heard the sounds of footsteps and realized too late that there were two people answering the door. It swung open, revealing Azula, and a few feet behind her, Ty Lee.
"Mai?! What are you doing here?"
"I-" Mai composed herself, "I wanted to talk to you two."

Zuko stood in his old bedroom, that was filled to the brim with remnants of his past. But he was looking for a specific remnant. First he checked under his bed, and found a few slips of paper with Mai's poetry on them, in her elegant, slanted handwriting. Zuko quickly realized that he was going to want to take some things home with him, so he grabbed a messenger bag from the corner and started randomly throwing things into it. First, the photo of his mother, with her beautiful, kind eyes. Next, one of Uncle's teapots. Zuko didn't know what it was doing in his room, but he was sure Iroh would want it back. He put an entire notebook full of Mai's poetry in the bag, along with some fantasy books that his Mom used to read to him. So many memories, all of them were gone. His mother was out there somewhere, but there wasn't really any chance of finding her. Zuko sighed, and was about to continue looking for the box when he heard the sound of a car pulling up in the driveway.

Azula. He ran up to the balcony and saw Azula and Ty Lee walking inside, then he quickly locked the door to his bedroom. He would look for a few more minutes, then, if he didn't find the money, he would leave. Zuko checked the messenger bag to make sure everything that he wanted was in there, before realizing that there was a hidden pocket on the inside. He unzipped it, and saw the flat, blue box with the golden embroidery of two dragons. Zuko carefully opened it to make sure that there were seven crisp, hundred dollar bills inside. Satisfied, he closed the box, put everything into the messenger bag, and went back out to the balcony. Without hesitation, he jumped off of the balcony, and used firebending to break his fall. Now he just needed Sokka and Suki to get out.

Suki cautiously opened the door to the storage room and stepped out, Sokka following suit. They had found two scarves in the storage room that they used to cover their faces so Azula wouldn't recognize them.
"What should we do?" Sokka whispered.
"I saw a door near the kitchen when we first went down here. Hopefully Mai can distract them long enough for us to get out." Sokka nodded and a few minutes later, they were slowly creeping up the stairs.
"Whatever you want to talk to us about you can do it right here." They froze, then realized that it was Azula talking to Mai.
"First of all," Mai said as Suki and Sokka reached the top of the stairs, "I- I want to apologize to you, Ty Lee. I'm sorry I hurt you, and I want to be friends again." Even though Mai was only saying these things to buy them time, it still sounded like she was being sincere. It still sounded like she meant it. Suki turned the corner and saw that Azula and Ty Lee were facing Mai, with their backs toward her and Sokka. Suki pointed to the kitchen.
"And, Azula," Mai's eyes widened slightly as she saw Sokka and Suki, "I've said some terrible things about you, and I'm sorry for that."
"Mai, I forgive you," Ty Lee said too quickly, and was about to hug her when Azula held her back.

"Wait," she said, "How did you know Ty Lee would be here in the first place."
"I-" Mai's eyes were darting a million miles per hour. Sokka and Suki were almost to the door, "It was a hunch," she lied.
"A hunch, huh," Azula said, just as the door slid open, "I don't trust anything you say, Mai, and I think it's time for you to leave." Mai heard the door in the kitchen click shut. She hugged Ty Lee, and left, closing the door behind her, all in the span of a few seconds.
~~~
Suki and Sokka sprinted out of the house. Suki was so relieved that she vaulted over the metal gate and landed in a crouch.
"Um, Suki, the gate was open," It was Zuko, holding up a blue box that matched the description he gave earlier.
"Shut up, Zuko. Suki, you are amazing and everything you do is amazing!" Sokka said, joining them along with Mai, "I can't believe we actually did it! This is crazy!"
"One problem," Suki said, "Where's the car." Everyone turned to Mai.
"I left it with Toph," she said flatly.
"It's fine, we can just walk," Zuko assured. And then the door opened, revealing a flustered Azula, along with an adorable looking Ty Lee.
"I knew you were hiding something, Mai!" Azula said calmly, "or someone." Anyone would be terrifying if their hands were alight with blue fire, but Azula was a special kind of terrifying.
"If I die, all of my worldly possessions go to Suki," Sokka whimpered. Then a few things happened at once. First, a crackle of sparks left Azula's fingers as she ran towards them. Zuko remembered her getting the choice between ballet lessons or advanced firebending lessons, and of course her choice had come back to bite him. Then they heard the sound of a car puttering unevenly towards them, and... death metal? Everyone, even Azula and Ty Lee stared as Toph, the 14 year old blind girl, drove the car right into the curb, causing a sizable dent, but really, no one cared. Toph climbed into the backseat with Sokka and Suki as Zuko and Mai climbed into the front.
"Toph. You are INSANE!" Sokka screamed, as they sped out of Firestorm Hills, before Azula could even think to follow them.
"I know," Toph said nonchalantly. They made their way to a park a few miles away, where they leaped out of the car and started whooping with joy. Sokka picked Suki up and twirled her around. Zuko and Mai, who rarely showed affection in public, shared a quick kiss. Toph earthbent a bench, and they all gathered around Suki, who facetimed Katara.
"Hello?" Katara was sitting very close with Aang in a utopian looking field.
"Whoa, you're all here," Aang said, looking surprised.b
"Guess what!" Suki said excitedly, "you won't have to worry about the money for the school fee, or the catering, or the decorations, or anything!" It took Aang and Katara a moment to understand what was happening, but then they caught on.
"How?" Aang asked innocently.
"You didn't," Katara gasped.
"We did," Zuko said with a smirk, "The five of us will... probably have to face Azula's wrath on Monday, but you two won't have to."
"Wow, I can't believe that you snuck into your dad's house just for us," Aang said in awe, "we actually have something to tell you guys."
"Yeah, we're... together," Katara admitted, blushing.
"I thought you were always a couple," Mai said in monotone, "this isn't surprising at all."
"I guess we'll see you on Tuesday," Aang said, "It's a three day weekend, remember?" Everyone breathed a collective sigh of relief, knowing that they could put off a confrontation with Azula for a little longer. Suki ended the call with Katara and Aang, and for a brief moment they simply basked in the victory of a job well done, even though that job involved breaking several laws and worse, angering Azula. But they would worry about that later.
Tower of Somnus
When humanity first encountered alien life, we were judged and found wanting. The Galactic Consensus interviewed our leaders and subjected us to a battery of psychological tests to determine our progress as a society. They found us to be selfish, wasteful, impulsive, and boorish neighbors. Earth was blockaded and our collective encounter with our extrasolar neighbors rapidly faded from memory. All they left behind was a hypercomm relay and a handful of subscriptions to a massively multiplayer game that participants played in their sleep. The Consensus said that it would let us interact with our neighbors in a controlled setting. That it would teach us to be better members of the galactic community. The megacorporations that controlled Earth ignored the game until they learned that the powers earned from clearing dungeons were just as real when day broke. Magic, supernatural abilities and rumors exploded from nothing and a subscription to The Tower of Somnus became a status symbol. Katherine ‘Kat’ Debs doesn’t have much, but it could be worse. Born in an arcology, she was assigned a job in the megacorporation that raised her almost as soon as she could work. Despite the stability of her corporate life, she wanted something more. A chance to claw her way up the rigid social and financial ladder to make something of herself. A chance that wouldn’t come naturally to someone as familiar with dark alleyways and the glint of steel as she was with office work and corporate niceties.Book One is up on Kindle Unlimited as of 7/6/22 - https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B0B2X3L8H5
The Five Series - redemption
Book 1 - Redemption Three generations have passed since the last near-apocalyptic war. Civilization is beginning to thrive again at an ever increasing pace. The burden of society has been once again placed on the back of a massive robotic workforce, creating a huge divide between industrial glory, and those forced to live in its shadow. Many have stubbornly held onto the old ways of self-governance from back when the government fell, but with its return, life in Welan City is changing. Aaron, a middle-aged man, who is stuck in the rut of daily life, witnesses a murder and finds himself in trouble, love, and the middle of a highly secretive robotics project. Aaron stakes his life on helping a prototype survive, and pays for it dearly. Passionate hate, love, and indifference send life in Welan City spiraling out of control, leaving no one innocent in the end. The Five Series is, well, a series. I've completed 3 of the books so far and will finish with a fourth, maybe fifth book. Book 1 is heavy on the character development side while the following will be much more decision and consequence oriented. This story reaches into the soul of a person and the universe we live in. Some people deserve a second chance, and some do not. With that im mind, no one really ever gets what they deserve though, do they? Always tell the people you care about that you love them as often as you can, they could be gone tomorrow. Would that change if you could always bring them back? I hope you enjoy reading this as much as I did writing it. Cody
