《My Muted Alpha | ✔️》CHAPTER TWENTY TWO

WARNING: BLOOD AND DEATH. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.

I gagged, the foul smell killing my nose. Her corpse had been here for awhile, making flies and all sorts of insects starting to swarm around the body. Those bloody flies are always thirsty for something, damn flies.

I hate them so much, especially when they land in my food.

She seemed to have been attacked last night, when she was patrolling. This area is not really used though to patrol. Why was she here to begin with?

Macy most likely died just as I was in the shower. She was probably dying but not completely as they took her organs out. Werewolves have a fast healing process, but to this extent, it doesn't end well. When she took her last breath, it was when I felt the bond snap.

Inspecting her body further, there was a crumpled up note in an area that used to have her lungs. As much as I didn't want to, I had no choice. Reaching for the note, I pick it out. Blood covered my fingers, the liquid dripping off my slender hands.

Trying not to puke, I unfold the letter, reading,

The games have begun.

Let's have a little fun.

- F

My hands crushed the note, outraged that we were nothing but pieces in her foolish game.

Rain growled loudly, her claws extending to the point of no return,

I closed my eyes, taking a deep gulp of air, 'Don't be rash Rain, we don't even know where she is. Our warriors are too weak to face her head on. We must prepare. I understand you're upset, I am too, but we must be smart about this. She's been observing us for years, which makes her have an advantage. The time will come when we'll rip out her throat, just you wait.'

She nodded deeply at my reply, slipping away to console herself.

I inspected the body further, turning the head to the side. What shocked me was that there were two small punctures on her neck. Why would they be there?

From what I've been told, Macy basically had been drained of her blood.

Don't tell me...

Vampires?

I groaned, shit just got worse.

...

"Has anyone seen Laura?!" A male voice yelled.

I closed my eyes briefly... Laura?

Wait a minute, isn't she the female guard that was with me since I got to the pack? Nick is her mate.

"She's missing!" He said, desperation lacing in his voice.

My eyes widened as I sprung into action.

Putting distance between me and Macy's body, I went to Nick. He was frantic, his eyes blood shot. His hair was disheveled and he seemed like he was in disarray. I've never seen him like this since I've met him.

I could hear the mumbles of the pack, as tension rose. The mother of Macy continued to sob, as Azrael and Coco did their duties as the Beta Couple.

They did their best to calm them down as I felt Kronos trying to inspect Macy's body even more. Just in case I had missed anything.

'His mate is missing, who would blame him?' Rain said, whimpering as she paced back and forth in worry.

I frowned, my lips forming in a grim line. "Nick, when was the last time you saw her?"

"I-I don't know! She was in bed with me last night. I think she left in the middle of the night. I usually would go out with her, because she's pregnant. But she insisted on going alone, saying she just needed to puke. I can smell her, she's somewhere around here but there's just too much scents everywhere." He explained, running his hands through his messy hair.

Laura was pregnant?

Oh no.

Suddenly, a strong stretch of fresh blood flooded my nose. Rain assured me, chanting that it was Laura.

Nick seemed to have noticed as well as he ran ahead of me without stopping.

"Wait! Nick, you don't know what's going on! It could be a trap." I screamed, hoping he could hear me.

But he was far gone.

Nothing mattered but his mate.

She was in danger and there was nothing stopping him to get to her.

I looked at Kronos as he looked at me. His eyes landed on mine as he seemed worried.

Slowly, he got up and walked towards me and nodded. Understanding, him and I quickly shifted and ran after Nick.

Praying that we could get to him in time.

***

"Nick! Can you hear me Nick?" I yelled out in the distance.

In his wolf form, Kronos sniffed the ground, trying to find out where the last place Nick was at. God, this fog was not helping whatsoever.

While we were chasing Nick, a fog started to settle. It made it impossible for us to see anything. Finally, a scream as well as a new scent of blood caught our attention. Kronos quickly ran forward and I shifted back into our wolf form to catch up.

As I moved towards the sound, the smell of blood grew stronger and stronger and just like that...

The body of Laura was laying there. A figure laid before Laura, and I could hear Nick struggling.

"You- You son of a bitch. What did you do to her?!" He bellowed, pushing the person harder into the dirt.

They giggled, "Why... don't you want to know?"

"God dammit, tell me!" He yelled, kicking their stomach.

Kronos and I approached them carefully, wary.

Suddenly, in less than a second, Nick was on the ground with his arm twisted backwards. He screamed in agony, writhing.

"The likes of you don't get to demand for answers." The voice seethed, baring their fangs.

As we came closer, the figure revealed to be none other than Fortrista.

I growled, glaring at Fortrista in my wolf form. Kronos growled along with me as we circled around her, as if she was prey. We were enraged. She had been terrorizing us for many days now.

As soon as I got close enough, I got a better look at Laura. The state of her brought me to tears. Her uterus laid open, a small little being laid there, gasping for air.

'' Rain whimpered, her ears drooping in sadness.

Laura seemed out of it, dazing as she struggled to breathe. Her blood was seeping into the grass, but she had an IV in her arm. Actually, two IV's. One in each arm. Along it, a baggie to collect her blood.

"Our baby... she tore out our baby!" Nick sobbed, struggling to get away from Fortrista. As he continued to struggle, Fortrista stomped on his leg, crushing his knee as he let out another cry.

Kronos and I stood in stock, not understanding how she could do such a thing. We were enraged but the scene in front of had us in a stand still. Laura is bleeding out, with little chance of survival. Nick is broken on the inside and slowly on the outside.

Fortrista's deeds kept adding up. Now, she's killed a pack member, injured Laura badly, and is keeping Nick hostage.

How evil is this woman?

"Why are you doing this?" I snarled, crouching as I'm ready to pounce on her.

"I'm taking back what originally belonged to me." Fortrista hissed, before she sank her fangs into Nick's neck.

Everything was a blur, as I remember lunging towards Fortrista with my teeth. I was quickly slammed to the side by an unknown wolf as he snarled at me to submit. His paw laid on my neck, baring his canines at me.

Kronos ran to my rescue but was quickly overpowered by six other wolves. He looked at me in fear, scared for my safety. Quickly, I saw his eyes glaze over, mind-linking for any of the patrols or any warriors that were available.

He was trying to get back up, but I fear it might have been too late.

I struggled, wiggling to get the filthy rogue off me. I whined helplessly, watching Nick get drained of his blood. His face turned into a deathly pale color as his body went limp. Nick still tried to get free from Fortrista's grasp, but she was resilient.

Soon, he became stiff.

I felt another bond in me snap. A death of a pack member, once more. Tears pricked my eyes.

Fortrista dropped Nick as if he was trash. She smirked, wiping her lips with the tip of her thumb. "Delicious. God, blood from a werewolf really do hit different. Don't they?" She cackled.

The rogues who ambushed us all laughed like hyenas, grinning ear to ear.

I could see one rogue changing the bags of blood from Laura, taking as much of it as they could.

These sick bastards!

Fortrista soon stood over Laura, reaching over for the baby pup that laid next to her. As soon as she grabbed the pup, she held it in her hand. Fortrista cooed at it softly. "There, there... Mommy's here. I would have loved to raise you, but... the thing is, daddy doesn't want you. If only your daddy didn't try to kill you just so he could stay with his bitch of a mate..." She mumbled, before clenching her hand in a fist.

Almost instantly, I could see the pup gone. She had crushed the pup, a cry of pain rang in the air. I didn't realize it was my own pain as I felt another bond within me snap.

Rain howled, sending me strength. It was enough to push the rogue off me, as I quickly grabbed his neck between my canines and snapped his neck.

A small whine escaped from him before he dropped dead.

Finally, catching her attention, Fortrista turned around and looked at me.

"Ah, you're Kronos's mate... aren't you?" She asked, a sweet smile forming on her lips. Her eyes soon laid on Kronos, "You've grown so much since the last time I saw you."

Kronos's eyes were pitch black as he growled.

"My, my..." she said, laughing.

I glared at her silently, watching more rogues surround us. There was nothing I could have done. We were outnumbered. Beside me, I could hear Kronos put up a fight with the rogues. He had already killed four of them and two of them were trying to keep him down.

Seeing this, Fortrista decides it's time to go. "Doesn't matter if you don't answer. I believe we're even... for now. I hope Ouranos gets the message." She said, turning to leave as she snapped her fingers.

Quickly, the rogues grabbed all the blood bags collected from Laura. They started to follow behind Fortrista when I yelled, "Are you really just doing this because of Ouranos? Just because he rejected you? He has a mate, but you know that. They had a son together." I paused, a tear rolling down my cheek. "What you're doing, is not getting him back. You're not helping yourself. Why don't you just move on? Are you really just power hungry like he says you are?"

Fortrista paused and turned her head at me. Anger filling her eyes. "He didn't just reject me. Why don't you ask your dear old alpha? I'm not settled with him just yet, little girl."

The two remaining rogues that were on Kronos quickly ran after Fortrista, following her. Kronos struggled to stand up, covered in blood and bruises.

She glanced at me once last time before walking away, deeper into the fog then disappeared. Along with the lives of our 2 pack members.

I shifted quickly back into my human form, running towards Laura's body. Kneeling beside her, I could see her life fading from her eyes. By now, I'm already crying.

She wasn't dead yet, there was still time. Seeing this, Kronos runs towards the patrols and the pack doctor, urging them to come faster. I could hear the voices of the pack members coming closer and closer.

"Laura, look at me. Stay with me, okay? Kronos is getting the pack doctor. We'll get you all fixed up." I sobbed, holding her hand.

Laura turned slowly towards me, a lone tear falling from her eyes. "... My.. My baby... and mate... they're dead..." she whimpered. "There's no reason for me to live a life without my soulmate.." she continued.

"No, no. Don't say that. It's okay." I cried.

"Don't be sad. I'll be with them as well as with the moon goddess." She said, smiling at me. She looked towards the sky, whispering, "Thank you for everything."

And just like that, she was gone.

***

The crunch of grass drifted me back to reality, my brown eyes meeting blue.

"Kronos," I whispered out.

He frowned, pointing towards the note I was clutching onto. Wanting nothing to do with it anymore, I held out my hand, motioning for him to take it. He did, his eyes skimming across the words before his eyes flashed black.

I nodded, my eyes casted downwards, "Fortrista is behind this, we have to train our warriors. An act of defiance is a act against us."

We both share a look, agreeing to the terms. Turning our attention back to the grieving parents, we give our condolences.

Later that evening, we held the funeral for our fallen pack members. Macy, as well as Laura and Nick. We even held a funeral for their pup, who had just been ripped out of Laura's womb. They were all well-known warriors. This led to lots of members showed up just to say goodbye.

One after one, people went up to give speeches about Macy, Laura, or Nick, and the memories they had with them. Sniffles and small smiles were shared about, knowing that they were in a better place.

Finally, the end was near. Their caskets were lowered into the ground. Even the casket of their pup, which was so small. No casket should ever be that small...

In the corner of my eye, I see Macy's mother fall to her knees, sobbing and crying for her beloved daughter to come back. Her father kneeled down and hugged his mate tightly, tears also pricking the edges of his eyes.

Meanwhile, Laura's parents, as well as Nick's parents all sobbed and cried as well. They had no idea they were going to be grandparents, but they lost the opportunity as soon as Fortrista killed the pup without any mercy.

The death of someone doesn't just kill them, it had killed those around them as well.

I gritted my teeth, trying to hold back a tear but it rolls down my cheeks. Kronos hand sneaks around my shoulders, rubbing me with comfort. He looked at me with great sadness, the loss of a pack member wasn't to be taken lightly after all.

Droplets of rain started pouring on us, as if the sky was crying. The clouds grew to a dark grey, to the point where the sunlight couldn't peak through.

Kronos and I stayed back until we were the last ones to leave. It was out of respect, for leaders must stay behind to make sure everyone went home safely. By then, my hair was all wet, the black dress I wore sticking onto my skin.

I kneeled down and placed a boutique of flowers on Laura's grave, as well as Nick's grave. Macy's grave was the last grave I visited but before they I stood. I whispered sadly, "You were a brave soul Laura... Nick, and Macy. You will be missed. You were loved by many, thank you for your hard work," I swallowed, "Vengeance will be served, I promise."

Stepping back, it was Kronos's turn to say goodbye. Kronos lowered his head, kissing the grave. He couldn't talk, making this the best thing he could do. We looked at all three of their graves, saddened by their deaths. We walked hand in hand to the pack house, depressed over what had just happened.

As we reached the door, I silently made a promise.

I'm coming for you Fortrista, and this time, you won't get away.
