《WileSideQuest》Struggle#02 - Alone in the Blizzard

The Flux.

Omnipresent across the 5 worlds, it gives power to whoever can wield it. It can be used an infinite variety of way, but nobody is sure of exactly what it is.

However, certain pieces of information have been discovered, as the Flux seems to abide by some rules. First, even if the physical and mental power obtainable through it show no sign of having any limitation, time is an untouchable taboo, and can’t be modified by mortals. Second, the most efficient catalyst are feelings, you can improve your abilities with classic training, of course, but nothing will come close to conviction, determination, and in the case of Questers, Virtues. Although these jump in power level are scarce, they are often required to achieve a struggle and overcome an absurdly difficult challenge.

Even though the guides -Quester that finished their Quest- at the end of the road are convince of those 2 information, they don’t have definite proof, and their speculation never ceased to be challenged.

So, obviously, Alice was clueless about what this magic power she just acquired was, but she had the certitude it was her only way to go through whatever comes at her. Fortunately, she is perhaps the most gifted person across the universes, and only a few hours after unlocking the Flux, she was already able to use it efficiently for healing and physical enhancement.

Being thrown into a world without any explanation seem does seem a bit unfair, but who need tutorials when you’re a cheat?

The answer would be Alice.

I entered another door. I immediately regretted it, as I arrive in front of what I believe to be a Yeti.

A mother fucking Yeti.

Like, a big snowy hairy white humanoid, screaming and charging at me with no reason -other than me being in his cave I suppose.

He threw his arm at me, and I blocked it. Or so I thought.

I was projected a few meters back, heard a crack, and felt a sharp pain coming from my arm. What the hell is that strength?!

Even though I used magic -or whatever this shit is- he broke my fucking arm!

As I was apparently no match for him, I turn around and ran away. Luckily, the exit was near, and he was a bit slower than me.

I got outside, everything was covered in snow and a dense mist was covering my field of view. But I didn’t have the luxury to stay inside or to avoid, so I continued running inside the fog until I was sure I was alone again.

Few… That was close, if the door had been on the wrong side of the cave, I would have been in deep shit.

But I guess this is not that much better, as here I am, in the middle of god know where, covered with fucking snow, with a broken arm who doesn’t regenerate as fast as I did with my other previous injury, once again for reasons I have no clue about.

Fuck my life! Whoever brought me into this mess, I’ll fucking destroy you!

Using my new-found power, I warmed myself up. If possible, I at least don’t want to die of hypothermia.

Okay… what the fuck do I do now! Fuck! I’m starting to be vulgar again!

Sigh… Alright, let’s scroll down my list of i-talent, maybe I have one that could help me right now. Some are really specific, so who knows?

I closed my eyes to visualise everything I obtained until now.

Let’s see… perfect memory, truth detector, super strength and speed -this one is a given, almost everyone got it-, spatial visualisation, enhanced smell and vision… low tension hand taser, enhance regeneration… high jump, slight wait manipulation…

Gosh… They are all useless right now! And even more since I can replace them with magic.

I looked at my unresponsive arm, and I could feel the pain slowly fading away. In a few minutes, it will be as good as new. It was quicker in the cave though…

Maybe… No… well, it’s worth a try. I promised him to not use his, but I guess he wouldn’t mind given the situation. It’s not like it’s a concrete solution either, but still better than nothing.

Samsy’s i-talent: luck. When I say it like that it kinda sounds like a joke…

Well, it worked once before, maybe it’ll work today too. I don’t think I have much of a choice anyway, I might have tackled the problem about my body temperature, I don’t think I’ll be able to find food here. So I need to either leave the snowfield or find a door.

I opened my eyes, and looked around me. To be more accurate, I looked around my feet, as the mist didn’t allow me to see more than that. Obviously, it didn’t help me at all…

So, time to make a decision… Okay! I’ll go… over there!

Without any real reasoning, I starting walking to my left. South, north, east or west, I don’t know, my internal compass is completely lost, so in order to recalibrate it, I set my current destination as North. Because it’s cooler to go towards the North.

Ha ha, I said cooler. While being in a snowfield. Ha ha ha… I think I’m losing it...

Sigh...I wish Sam was there…

In fact, I do miss him a lot, I know he’s the only one I can trust but... it’s… weird, I mean, I like him a lot, but I didn’t think I would miss him that much. Well, I never thought anything would make me struggle so much either. Everybody thinks I’m invincible or perfect -That’s probably also why they all fear me, those weak cowards- but clearly I’m not.

An image flashed through my mind. It was only for a second, but I immediately understood what it was about… Shit. I thought I had forgotten that.

I… I have a bad feeling about this adventure. I’m strong, this is a fact, but with what happened with the bear? And the Yeti? What if something even stronger gets in my way? What if I can’t run away? I don’t think I can be saved by guts, courage and luck every time. I’m not a shitty, lucky and cliché heroine, this role would suit Sam better.

I’m thinking way too much about him! It’s not like I like him or anything!

Well…

No, absolutely not. Plus, he sees me as a sister, so it’s not like I have a shot…and he’s probably still dating this bitch too.

Sigh… why everything can’t be dealt with fights and physical violence? I’m good at those! Not as good as I thought apparently, but I’ll work on that. Meanwhile, I’ll still have to deal with this craps called sentiments and emotions! Talk about bullshit!

You know what! I’m sure what he told me about luck is totally fake! Otherwise “I wouldn’t be in this shitty situation!”

I yelled those words to the snow, and heard echoes of my own voice coming from further away, only adding to my frustration.

My right arm was now fully healed, so, while still marching, I bend down to gather a bit of snow and form a handful of snowball.

You know what? “Fuck the snow!” And I threw a snowball toward the omnipresent mist.

Pheeeeeewwww.

“Fuck the doors!”

Pheeeeeewwww.

“Fuck them!”

Pheeeeeewwww.

“Fuck me!”

Pheeeeeewwww

“And fuck SA…”

Pock.

Hum?

Did I hit something? I threw it totally on my right -East-, and even though I don’t see where it landed I definitely heard something.

I approached the location of the sound, and after a few meter…

The door. The huge 2 meters old heavy double door, with huge black handle and a stone frame to support it. The same that I saw this morning and less than an hour ago...

That doesn’t mean anything.
