Chapter 4 - Teleportation Mystery
5 minutes 'Til Doomsday
August 2nd, 2065
[Los Angeles, California - LAX Air Strip #6]
A 6 foot man clad in a Generals uniform, seems to be struggling with a panel that's connected to a large machine with wiring running down the back, along the pavement for 10 feet and into a hole in the ground. A young women runs up to the man and gets on her knees beneath the panel and fiddles with the machine, disconnecting and reconnecting wires, the machine seems to give a humming noise as if it came back to life. The man sees the lights on the device are all glowing green, as if giving the OK, the man and woman head back to their positions awaiting the device to teleport them off the doomed planet.
Roger whom had difficulties with the panel, connected to the machine which will grant them salvation off this planet, spoke loudly as all the people behind him who are lined up can hear him speak.
“Men, are you and your families prepared for the transfer to ‘Grania’”
“SIR, YES SIR!”
Some 400 soldiers and their families lined up behind Roger answered with a boom, deafening the ears of all. Roger leans over to Dianna, his wife whom he married a little over a year and a half ago, and spoke.
“Do we have all the equipment in place ready to be transferred with us?”
“Yes we have the vehicles, equipment, and weapons prepared and in place for the transfer.”
“Good, are you prepared?”
“You know, you are really late in asking me that, you should have asked me your ‘wife’ long before anyone!”
She said as she jabbed him in the ribs with her knuckles, giving him a heart-felt smile that any man would love to be given. Roger leans over to grasp the hand of his wife and prepares for the transfer. Hoping the device doesn’t fail once more, Roger grabs a square remote about the size of an average cell phone from his pants pocket, and opens a glass casing that covers a lever. He flips the lever in the opposite direction, and moves his thumb below to a red circular button.

He glances to his left to see his wife giving a faint smile of hope. Roger applies pressure to the button, and waits in a suspenseful tense engrossing atmosphere, then a Purple glowing line starts to encircle the 1000 people and supplies awaiting the transfer. The circular purple line connects to the starting point of the line to complete a perfect circle. Roger sighs in relief as if his life escaped the hands of Death himself, while others behind him sighed in the exact same way as if they felt what Roger felt.
From within the center of the circle purple, blue, black and gold colors began to warp around each other as if they are fighting for control over the other. The circle is completely enveloped by the warping colors and begins to drag the inhabitants that stand upon the circle into the quicksand of colors within an instant…… the air strip left bare of people, within minutes after Roger’s group left for Grania, Earth is decimated by the sun’s explosion causing it to become nothing more than dust in the cosmic unknown.
Roger and his group immediately started to feel sick, because of their sudden weightlessness a couple of people began to chuck in the rather strangely shaped tunnel. The tunnel had the same colors as the circle they were once standing upon but if you can focus and look beyond the tunnel you could tell that the tunnel seemed to be in space as you’d pass other constellations and galaxies, it was an astounding event that seemed impossible, but there it was in all of its impossibilities, “Teleportation”.
Roger showed an expression of worry. He noticed that this transfer was taking longer than 10 seconds and he began to float, with Dianna in toe, towards a group who seemed to join hands because of the Zero Gravity atmosphere. He approached and grabbed hold of one of the military personnel whom was a scientist for his research branch for the U.S. Army and began to speak.

"First Lieutenant Williams, Why are we still being transferred? We should have been there by now correct?"
Williams stared at Roger for a few seconds and began to look down at his feet as if thinking, within a few seconds he came up with a theory and proceeded to tell the General.
"Sir, an unknown energy powers the device even though we used the energy from the earth's core to power it, it was theorized that the thermal energy is not what actually powers the device, but we never had the time to test it."
"So, what happened?"
"Well if I had to guess, it was the unknown energy that was sent from the sun via a Solar flare, which caused it to overload thus may be causing our location to change….."
Before Williams could finish his conversation with Roger they were cut off by a woman’s scream as if she was a some sort of mythological banshee.
“KYAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!”
Roger and many others nearby turned their heads to view a spectacle that was hard to swallow and frightening. The woman seemed to be becoming pixelated as if she was disappearing into tiny fragments from the feet to her head she seemed to vanish. All that was left was a ball of purple light, no bigger than a tennis ball, and a blue hued mist not much bigger than the light itself but big enough to cover the ball of light. The warped tunnel sucked up the blue hued mist into itself and the ball of light shot out of the tunnel into the distant unknown.
After witnessing such an event many began to panic and hold onto their families as if they were trying to protect their family from the unknown entity that they seemed to have imagined in their heads, as if trying to make the imaginary a reality. Within seconds of the woman disappearing many screams and shouts can be heard in the tunnel and just like the woman had disappeared, men, women, and children seem to up and vanish in a similar manner as the woman had. It was hard to say how long the event lasted many thought it lasted long, longer than they had assumed, but the disappearances lasted no more than 20 seconds. Roger and Dianna having witnessed such an event we’re clearly speechless and devastated. Mainly due to the reason that all these people and their families followed them and respected them to the point that many stayed behind to help and waited to leave the world last.

Fallout: Vault X
An original novel set in the Fallout universe, written to be accessible to all, featuring unique people and places. Vol.II. out now Fallout: Vault X tells the story of John. A vault dweller, who spent every day of his twenty five years underground. Like his father, and his father before him. Proud to live in the last remaining bastion of humanity, all that survived The Great War of the atomic age. Hidden deep below the surface of the earth, toiling under brutal conditions. Year after year, decade upon decade. All to expand into the natural cave system the Vault occupied, building for the future. However, John knew what his forefathers did not, that everything he’d been taught was a lie. After finishing school at the age of ten, John received his standard issue pipboy. An arm mounted personal computer, worn by everyone in the Vault. Used to coordinate the relentless pace of expansion, needed to work as an apprentice. To learn the craft that would be his life’s work. A noble calling to ensure a future for all that remained of the human race. A quirk of fate saw John equipped not with the crude, clunky, pipboy model his father wore. That almost everyone around him wore. His looked smaller, sleeker, finished in a jet black sheen. And capable of doing far more than its drab counterparts. The world above had been ravaged by atomic flames, yet life clung to its bones. The Red Valley fared better than most in the century since the bombs fell. The clean water and rich soil protected by rolling hills. All spared from direct strikes, for the most part. Life survived here. Trees spawned from charred ground, misshapen, green leaves turned red. Along with simple crops, grown wild at first, then cultivated by the survivors. The scavengers of the old world were inventive, hardy people. All determined to rebuild in the ruins of a world they never knew. In the decades that passed settlements emerged. They grew, spreading along the valley floor. Reclaiming the pre-war remnants of the once industrialised heartland. Salvaging the robotic wonders of a bygone age to build their walls and work their fields. To protect them in the dark of the wasteland. But such things are uncommon in this world, and the rarer something is, the greater its value. And the worth of pre-war technology had not gone unnoticed. The last, real, power in this world rested in the mechanised hands of The Brotherhood of Steel. Forged from the mortally wounded old world military. The Brotherhood used its access to the weapons made for a conflict no one won to strike out into the wastes. Men and women were equipped with advanced armour, aerial transportation, high grade weaponry. Accompanied by the training, strength, and will, to put them to use. They established chapters and set up outputs far and wide. All dedicated to a single purpose. To ensure the technology left abandoned by its long dead creators didn’t fall into the wrong hands. Namely, any hands that were not their own. This is the world John escaped into. A place of horrors brought forth from atomic fire. A place where survival meant battling against the darkness. Fighting a war each day to get to the next. And war...war never changes
