《A Collection of Short Stories: Quiet Girl》8. Fireworks!

If only I could damn fireworks to hell, I'd be a much happier person. These things are annoyingly loud and they scare the shit out of me, especially since they're so loud! Cassie thought this while she held her arms while walking to the place where they were going to be commercially setting off fireworks for... honestly anything.
She had found the area and just stood there thinking about where the hell was the person who invited her here. She kept looking around for him thinking maybe he was late or something, but she really didn't know what to think. Terumichi was the person who said this was something he wanted to do, I feel bad declining him especially since he works so much. Cassie sighed and once more gave the area another look around, that's when she noticed someone with a black hat walking towards her.
"Cassie." This person said in a harsh whisper. He got to her and pulled his mask down to reveal himself as Terumichi. "Sorry I'm late. Everyone else in the group was also going out tonight so I was the last to get to everything." Cassie shook her head.
"It's fine, the fireworks haven't even started yet."
"Yeah, we should go and find a good spot to see them at." It better not be a secluded part of a riverbank. Cassie walked with him to this better spot and Terumichi took her to a part of a bridge with a rest point. There were only a few other people and the most of them were couples, so they weren't going to be disturbed in anyway.
However, Cassie sat down anxiously awaiting the first firework. Terumichi made aimless commentary, which went over Cassie's head as she tried to think about anything but the fireworks. Then in the middle of something he was saying Cassie heard the first one being launched.

"They're starting!" Terumichi said. Cassie said nothing and as the first few went off she could barely enjoy herself, as each one caused her to flinch. Her ears were beginning to ring at the noise and she thought to plug her ears, but Terumichi would likely think something more serious was going on. This can't get any worse.
"Cassie?" When the fireworks had stopped for a bit, Terumichi spoke to her.
"Y-yeah?"
"Are you okay? You keep shaking, it's not cold is it?"
"No I'm just-" As she was talking another firework went off and it was loud causing Cassie to flinch violently.
"Shit," Terumichi said, moving a bit closer to Cassie.
"I-I'm fine really." Terumichi ignored her words and gave her a small side hug, he put one of his hands over her ear and tried to talk over the fireworks.
"You must not like fireworks huh?" Cassie said nothing, Terumichi took that as an answer and spoke with a chuckle in his voice. "Why didn't you say something? I wouldn't have asked you to this otherwise." Because I feel bad that you don't do anything but work most the time.
"I... just didn't want to turn you down." Terumichi chuckled and moved back, the fireworks were still going on, but Cassie was more focus on Terumichi's sent than anything else.
"Look, we can hang out and do anything else okay?" She nods to him, "We can even go right now."
"No!" She paused, "I know you like fireworks and I'm fine with seeing them, but not hearing them." He gave her a sweet smile.
"Aw, you're like a little puppy." He said with a chuckle, he then dug around in the pocket of his jacket and pulled out his earbuds before putting them in Cassie's ear. They worked to plug her ear for a bit, then she started to hear some soft music that took over everything. She looked to Terumichi and spoke.

"But now we can't talk." She said. He took it out and spoke to her.
"As long as we get to be together, we don't even have to talk." As he said that, a firework went off lighting up his face and Cassie could see the expression he was making. He truly felt that way and as long as he was happy, Cassie could be too.

The General Core {The Sphere}
The life cycle in the Sphere is on the brink of collapse because one of its elements, the Dungeons, have been exploited too much by the mortals. The group who created the Sphere already tried and failed with several modifications, because the original computer-like dungeon cores are too inflexible to handle changing approaches. So they try another type of solution – taking souls from other worlds to try to find a solution before the Sphere Cycle breaks down completely. The General was one of the best soldiers of his world, rising from the ranks of a private through Officer School to the highest command with honors. But when his world faced a zombie apocalypse, even that was not enough and he had to make the ultimate sacrifice. Now he is asked for a repeat performance of planning and controlling a dungeon and its spawns in a world that he knows nothing about… But what is the Sphere really? What is that [Xenotic conversion] he has to go through to even enter the Sphere? Something is really strange and he will have to find out what is going on to get to his promised rewards – whatever they will be. Being a soul in a dungeon core means that the General has better chances of finding hints to the truth about the sphere – a knowledge that would help him survive. And no, the sphere is NOT a virtual reality – the key to its secrets is the place where it was physically constructed (Author’s hint). This is a dungeon core story - but there are quite a number of things that I will do differently than common to those stories. 1) I will describe the floors when they are explored, NOT when they are build. Yes, that will mean it will take longer to get to those parts - but I think describing floors both when they are build and when they are explored destroys quite a lot of chances for suspense when adventurers enter the dungeon. After all, if you as the reader already know where the traps are, then you can't really be surprised when the surfacers encounter them. 2) How the world works (and how not) is an integral part of the story, so it will be explained I'm a world-builder first and the Sphere is NOT a regular world (as hinted in the synopsis above). Things will work differently than in your 08/15 default dungeon core stories - as the General and Gunny have already learned in the second arc (and more of that is already scheduled for the next weeks (July/Aug 2019) when the Sky Arrows continue to explore and evaluate that strange dungeon) If you don't like these premises, then I'm sure you'll find a lot of other Dungeon Core stories more to your liking. But if you are interested in more than "Dungeon builds another room and corridor in medieval earth" and are not afraid of a longer and slower story, then go on. I have two more stories in the Sphere, although they both have lower priority than this one: Shaleen the Wanderer (Adventurer, NSFW) (currently on hold after some chapters) Info's on the Sphere (System Docu and Short Stories) (irregular updates when needed) Current Status reports have been moved to a new discord server: https://discord.gg/EaHkXCfm9y

Five years have gone by since Michael last opened Lunar Masquerade, an MMORPG where you don’t choose a class, a calling chooses you. Yet, here he is, awake inside the game, naked in a circle of arcane symbols. Summoned. But, when he finds that the one to summon him is no other than his fiancée’s character, Selrah, it soon dawns on him that they may have left the game, but the game continued without them. No longer Michael, but Mythril, and a few quests and a raid later, he is on the run. His summoning no accident, he must flee the very person he thought he could rely upon, not to mention an ego-maniac of a guild leader, and a forlorn ostrich named Audreg. His calling changing to one thought only of legend, his companions a womanizing bard and a noxiri too fond of daggers, Mythril must regain his strength and reach the Feylands, before another calls upon the ancients leading the world into destruction once again.
