《A Collection of Short Stories: Quiet Girl》5. Hayate's Training

Men who did martial arts have always turned Cassie on, it was something about seeing the amount of skill and dedication that just got her going. So when Hayate invited her out to watch him... or something to that effect, she knew she couldn't turn him down. She actually sat waiting for him to get a break, but she stared and watched as every muscle that tensed at his movements.
His hair stuck to his face and when he took a pause to calm his breathing, that didn't help Cassie; he looked as if nothing could bother him and that going near him would only end badly.
Others were in the room, but Cassie didn't know any of them, so staring at Hayate was just as good. Hayate took a breath and began his stretches, yeah much more worth it.
After ten minutes of him stretching and Cassie drooling, he was finally let go. Hayate's eyes immediately went to the door and he found Cassie standing there. He smiled and went to her as he dried himself off.
"You're late." He said once he was in front of her.
"I'm not, you were just practicing for so long."
He chuckled, "I know, I'm joking with you." As always, then why even sound so serious? That shits not funny. He walked off to collect his jacket and get his water bottle, Cassie followed behind him like a puppy. "But since you are here how about we stay and watch the others."
"Are you supposed to?"
He nods, "We're training together, this'll help me become a good teacher too. The more I see, the better I'll be able to see what mistakes people make. Plus, it'll help me to see my own issues and know how I can help." Wow, you got all this shit figured out don't you? "But besides that, I figured you wanted to stay and watch anyway."

"Why do you think that?"
"You've always been interested in stuff like this." He crossed his arms, "Like boxing right?"
Her face went red, "Yeah..." Shyly, she averted her eyes from him and heard Hayate laughing.
"Although I can't teach you anything about boxing, I can teach you some self defense techniques."
"You don't have to do that."
"As you always say, just take my lesson and accept it." She stared at him, Being so close to you scares me and who knows where you'll have to touch on top of all that but-
"Okay... maybe just a few things."
...
"Hold your arm over your face, keep your other hand out so if you can grab something do it." He positioned her arms then moved to see how she looked. "That's good, but remember to tense up, I can tell you aren't." Then why don't you help me then, Cassie did as he said and kept her arms tense. After a few minutes, he told her to put her arms down. "Now, to be sure you actually learned something, I'm going to come at you. If you do this you should be able to block me." She nodded to him and watched him, he began to walk towards her and reached for her arms. Cassie panicked a bit and just rose her arms up. Hayate chuckled and she felt him grab her wrists.
"W-what's funny?" She said lowering her arms.
"That you panicked even though you knew I was coming at you." I can't help that this shit scares me.
"Sorry, I'm kind of nervous."
He was still pressed against her, "Well, let's try again." He finally stepped back and let her get ready, he nodded and began to move again, this time Cassie blocked his arms and grabbed his shirt with her other hand.

She waited a bit before looking up, "N-now what?"
He smirked before moving his other hand to where she was grabbing, "Naturally, people would reach for the hand that grabbed them, that's when you hit them. It'd be good if you hit them somewhere you SING."
"Sing?"
"Yes," He stepped back and pointed to each place on his body.
"Solar plex, In step or the foot, Nose, and the groin. Even on a woman, but in your case since you're likely to be shorter than someone who would attack you, the nose or the groin would be perfect." Why do you people think I'm so short? "Also, this can work if you're grabbed from behind. Would you like to be sure you can actually do this?"
Cassie made a face. Having your crotch against my back sounds like a nightmare, but having your strong arms around me is a dream. Simply, she nodded.
Hayate went behind her and prompted when he'd grab her, once he did he told her what to do. "Can you remember the places?" SING right? She moved her elbow, then her foot, then threw her head back softly, then moved her other hand to his midsection.
"I-I can't touch there."
He chuckled but remained holding her, "You could, but for now we are in public so perhaps that should be saved." Being in public isn't the only reason we shouldn't be doing that! He removed himself from her and stood in front of her with a smile. "You're actually pretty good at this, plus you have enough strength to defend yourself normally." Well my brothers were annoying when we were kids, I know how to drop my weight too. "Though, I feel like we've wasted the entire day."
"I learned something, so it wasn't really wasted."
He smiled at her, "How about I just take you home then?" She nodded and began getting her things as Hayate did, "Oh, but since today was wasted how about we go out later in the week?"
Cassie stood up normally but found Hayate in front of her.
The smile on his lips caused Cassie's mouth to open but nothing to come out, he chuckled after a bit and touched the top of her head affectionately. "I'll take that as a yes." Cassie closed her mouth and once more just nodded, Hayate moved to walk to the door. Cassie kept her back to him and gestured violently at herself. You're an idiot! He's not that pretty, so relax and learn to talk! "Cassie?" She turned back and gave him a small smile before joining him at the door.

Hazelsong: A LitRPG Novel
Release Schedule: I will be moving to a set release schedule as of 1/1/2022. A new chapter will be released every Saturday at Noon EST. If I have time that week for a second chapter, I will leave a note on the Saturday chapter and post the second chapter on Sunday at Noon EST. An up to date character sheet for the MC Erik will also be posted on Sundays at 12:15 PM. If life happens and I am for some reason unable to write that week, I will post a blank chapter giving you an update on where I am with my writing. Saturday Noon EST: First weekly chapter Sunday Noon EST: Second weekly chapter (if I have the time) Sunday 12:15 EST: Updated character sheet Synopsis: Years after surviving a deadly accident, Erik struggles to come to terms with his painful disability. When offered the chance to playtest the world's first full immersion VRMMO, he wants nothing more than to retreat back into his secluded life, until he learns what Hazelsong really offers. An escape from the pain. Hazelsong is a world of magic and adventure, a place where friendships are formed, loot is won, and glory and fame are there for the taking. While the threats feel real and the stakes are always high, there is only one thing Erik is really in danger of. Forgetting which world is actually real. Story Themes: Hazelsong is a LitRPG novel that not only explores the fictional world of a realistic online fantasy realm but the life of a man suffering in silence from chronic pain and PTSD due to a significant physical injury and disability. Mental health is an important subject and we all know at least one person in our lives who has or is dealing with some form of mental illness. I plan on putting my best effort forward to represent these illnesses in a fair and accurate manner. Not as a cheap plot device to help make the protagonist more unique, but to help paint an accurate picture for those of us who have been lucky enough to not have to suffer in silence. About the Author: I am Ash Durra, general video game nerd and a connoisseur of fantasy and sci-fi of all shapes and sizes. Needless to say, I am not a professional author (B.S. and M.S. in Education, 8 years teaching). After really getting into LitRPG novels over the past several years, I found my way to Royal Road, which has inspired me to use my spare time to begin writing a story of my own creation. As this is a hobby, I am not writing and posting chapters on any kind of specific schedule at the moment, though my goal is to post on average 1-2 chapters a week. I am incredibly excited to share this story with others as I write it, and I look forward to any constructive feedback about how I can improve in my writing.

The Novel's Extra's Extra
As a reader, Cristopher always looked for things that entertained him, didn't matter what the "critics" said, all that matters was his own opinion on the novel, so he started reading "The Novel's Extra", a webnovel that despicts an author who is transmigrated to his own novel. It was fun and all with its own good and bad points, really, one of his favorites novels at the end of the journey, and that's taking into account the little fact that he didn't have too many things he was able to enjoy, not in that empty shell that was called life for him... Why could someone be born like that? With a void inside, an endless void that slowly consumes oneself... But... for better or worse... everything changed one day, the same day he woke up to discover he had the same faith of the author whose novel he just finished reading, becoming an extra in a novel, becoming The novel's extra's extra... /Ok, now that's the description I thought of... first of all, for those of you who are reading this, if any, a few points I have to make clear: 1. I'm not an english native speaker, so if you find anything wrong in the text, please let me know, that would help me learn, and I would be thankful for that.2. I'm writting this out of pure "enjoyment", so while I'll try to be constant, I'll not make any promises.3. True reason why I'm writing this is because I'm going through a moderate to crippling depression right now (and no, is not because anything trully bad and horrendous happened to me, it seems to have something to do with my brain's malfuctioning, among other things), and doctors told me to try writing as I enjoy reading. So yeah, this is more like a self-help excercise, to keep myself distracted while trying to be safe from my self.4. I choose to make a fanfiction of "The Novel's Extra" as I don't trully know how to write, and because I really loved that webnovel, though there are some points I didn't particulary liked.5. If you see some (let's be clear, really much) self insertion on this series, well, that may be me trying to escape reality, to which I make an early warning and disclaimer, and also ask for forgiveness, as I said before, this is more of an excercise, so don't take it too serious.6. I'll be a slow writer, as I have to still check a few things from the novel, even when I've read it like 3 or 4 times already, and because I know shit about writing a novel or a series.7. If you get to enjoy this, then that's good, I would be glad about it, maybe even more motivated, but I don't really expect this to be any good. Thanks to you all who may, or may not, be reading this novel./
