《Silverestia Chronicles》Day 1 - Ale

The cool breeze of spring morning welcomed my step outside. It was like a kiss from the day itself, and the day was very special for me. The kingdom of Silverestia has become very desperate in getting anybody who can put up a fight to join one. Not even all that excited over joining the army and kicking Sheedhied's ass, although I am going to do that. Who wants to live their life as some villager? The best part of life is about putting yourself to the edge, when the stakes are high and the risks are ever present is when the rewards taste the best and undeniably top notch. Not to mention the pay is better than whatever I would be doing here. So I left. Said my goodbyes to Pa and Ma and these plebeians I'm expecting to have heard about the details of my quest when I come back. Can't wait for that, considering none of them took me seriously. I was putting my life on the line to keep the village safe and not a single thank you. And now the entire kingdom is at risk. Yeah, they better have heard of me once I come back.

Took the horse carriage ride to the main city a few hours before noon. There were only 3 other people, an elf and 2 humans, who came along for the ride. I don't remember seeing them before though. Must have been visitors. Didn't talk a whole lot. Just slept through the entire trip. A boring nightmare it was. The coachman was just a senile old man I don't have any reason to associate with. I don't even remember his name. I know he's been doing this horse carriage job for as long as I've been around and hasn't done anything other than that. He stayed quiet and I'm more than willing to bet nothing of interest would come out of his mouth. I was essentially alone on this long and tiring ride. Good grief.

A good 3 hours I believe passed until I got to my destination: the Capital of Silverestia. That's where the recruiting firm is and most of the exciting bits that happen in the entire kingdom. A grand and incredible place filled with the cheery and loudness of busy lives. Merchants selling their goods, the pubs always full of those who need a place to fill their stomach, their head intoxicated with booze or a comfortable place to rest up at the inn, the many faces of people from all over: humans, elves, white, brown, black, Oriental, the ones with animal ears, they're all here. It was easy to get lost in the bustling world, especially for someone such as myself who never stepped foot here, to forget the dreadful chills behind our backs which serves as a reminder that our regular life now may end if everything fails. Wouldn't bet on it though. The pendulum is at its limit and Sheedhied is about to get hit by the swing.

The recruiting firm was crowded with an interesting assortment of various warriors, big and small, capable and some looking incapable. Perhaps they were going towards non-combat positions or were magic wielders? Regardless I should be grouped with the more capable soldiers, even if I don't stand as the tallest or the most muscular I can wield a sword and use some basic offensive magic I've perfected. Defended the village numerous times from bears, cougars, goblins and sasquatches. A fairly competent warrior I was. More than enough to become a true knight of the kingdom. Back home I was always referred to as 'Private' and nothing more. Whenever something huge was said to have been spotted near the area they always got the tougher looking fighters to do the job and never me. Whenever I questioned them it was always something to do with how I should let the adults handle it. I still have no idea what they were getting at.

Aside from all of that, I didn't make the ride to the training grounds for the day because it got too late. I'm not sure how it happened if I'm telling the truth. My nerves started giving me a strange shaking sensation when I was making my way to the ride. To combat this I decided to go to the pub and finally had my first ale. The plebeians at the village including my own Pa and Ma never let me have anything alcoholic because I was underage or some other strange reason. Is 15 really underage? Even the bartender there was egging on what my age was and I managed to convince him I was 18. Had 5 of these ales before my head felt light and the world was spinning like a whirlpool of electricity. Everything seemed mad awesome! Running outside screaming and hollering! Yelling profanities and eventually passed out in an alley. Woke up in the dead of night with vomit on me. Still not feeling well but missing the warmth of a nice bed, I managed to snag myself a room at the pub's inn. Getting worried about my finances. Lucky I didn't get robbed while I was out but those ales must've cost me more than I expected. Won't have to worry much once I'm at the training grounds though.
