《Son of Sparta》Son of Sparta: Get Back Up

"Mors, keep up!" Mors heard Jasper call out. Thirty minutes into their run and Mors started lagging behind, Kyren and Livia shared a look and sped up.
Mors felt as if his body weighed a few more hundred pounds. He was full of sweat, His vision would waver, he took deep, exaggerated breaths, he felt really hungry, and his eyelids were heavy. Mors could not run anymore, he hunched over to attempt to stable his breathing pattern. Jasper looked back and saw that Mors stopped running but pretended as if he saw nothing. Kyren and Livia did not need to look back to know how Mors's condition is. What he is doing now is suffering from backlash because Mors used too much of his static when his core isn't fully developed yet. Kyren deliberately omitted crtitical information about magic awakenings for this to happen, of course he had help from Livia. They continued on as the sunset dawned upon them, a sickly Mors stationary fifty yards away from them, a small platoon of staff members approaching fifty yards behind him.
Mors began to retch. Jasper never spared another glance to the boy as a viscous grey goo pooled below Mors and started crawling on his as if it was alive. The goo traveled up to his face before settling itself in both sockets of his eyes, Mors roared in pain. This feeling was like nothing he has ever felt before in his two lifetimes, he tried to find the right words to describe it but couldn't, one could hear just how bad it was by the pitch of his screams. They radiated throughout the desert, not a single soul could say they did not. As the footsteps of the soldiers grew closer, Mors started to feel desperate, if he lost right now then he'd fail. That was something he just could not do. Failure is not an option for Mors, he did not train so hard to lose it all before it started.
"Jas...per..." Mors cried despite the pain, "JAS...per..." He moaned as he scooped out the ink. He grit his teeth as he stuffed his fingers into his eye sockets and pulled them out, "JASPER...I KNOW YOU HEAR ME!...YOU CAN'T DO THIS TO ME!...YOU OWE ME, ALL OF YOU, YOU ALL OWE ME!!! YOU WOULDN'T BE HERE IF IT WASN'T FOR ME!! YOU GODDAMN TRAITOR!!" The pain subsided but the goo now stuck to his hands and arms. Instead of pain, he felt nothing. It was to the point where he felt like he never had arms to begin with, but he knew they were there. His eyes, although he could not see them, were empty. Mors proceeded to stumble around aimlessly until he was tackled from behind.

Jasper heard all that was happening but never once did he turn around with the thought of saving Mors. It was too late, the finish line is in his grasp. Similar to Mors; Jasper has his own goal to achieve as well...'I admit you made these menial tasks a bit more fun... I have my own reasons for becoming a knight.' Jasper's stride transformed into a hunter's leap as he accelerated on all fours, passing Kyren as first place. Jasper did see Mors as a friend but he had to prepare for a more pressing situation, what if they are one day put against one another...would Mors let him win?...would he ever get strong enough to surpass Mors?...He did not know.
The Major appeared from out of nowhere and yanked Jasper's tail in the direction away from the house, Jasper felt himself get snatched, literally, out of his thoughts. Jasper rag-dolled in the sand as he came to a stop in the middle of Livia and Kyren. The guards surrounded the three, forcing them into the middle of a circle. They dragged in a barely conscious Mors, who's body was..still breathing, per instruction they did not touch the golden ticket user, other than carrying him by hand.
When Mors was gently placed on the floor, everyone gasped at the sight of his person. His arms covered in third degree burns up til' his elbows and his eyes looked to have been melted out. Yet he remained..breathing...but unmoving. "We found him like that, Major." Luceria heard the one who placed Mors down state as he retreated back into the crowd. Luceria heard the screams, and now she understood it was for good reason. He was a mess, she felt waves of raw mana from him which is detremental for a novice mage. In Mors's case, it seems to be gravely severe. "Mors, can you still fight?" To everyone's surprise, Luceria asked the question. The staff members wanted to shout in protest because of the state Mors was in, they did not want to be charged with accidentally murdering a trainee.

"Yes." Mors hoarsely responded as he arose to his feet.
Livia suddeny ran up to Mors and delivered two blows to his stomach, dropping him to his knees, and a hook that sent his face to the sand. He did not move again.
"There. He's done." She said as she made her way back to where Kyren and Jasper were standing.
Luceria looked at Livia with a cold glare, "I did not allow you permission to do that. In fact, I was going to purpose a one-versus-four against me...but now I have an even better idea...Mors, can you still fight?" As if on que his injured arms rose himself from up off the ground. Slight rain began to fall from the clear, night sky which struck confusion into the hearts of almost everyone present. The moon still hung high and illuminated the surroundings.
"Yes." Mors's mutilated skull bore holes into Luceria, making her feel a bit on guard. "Good. You three..." Luceria pointed at the trio getting their attention, she then pointed to herself, "....versus me..." With a crooked smile, her finger also landed on Mors, "..and him." Kyren and Livia inwardly scoffed, 'What could that cripple do?' They both thought. Jasper however, trembled in terror. Not only did he have to fight against the Major but he'd also have to fight against Mors. Kyren noticed his shaking and placed a warm hand on his shoulder in an attempt to calm his emotions, "Don't worry, Me and Liv got this, the Major isn't a match for the both of us.." Kyren said in a whisper.
Jasper shook his head and stammered, "T-that's not w-what I'm w-w-worried about..." Kyren sensed something was amiss and looked over at Mors. Kyren's jaw dropped when he seen Mors's frame that was clouded in a mist of light smoke. Tiny crackles of lightning could be seen appearing randomly throughout the mist. The staff members caught wind of what was happening and started shouting,"MAGE!" , "MAGICIAN!" , "WIZARD!" . Many shouts were thrown around as they were excited to see a mage in action without there being a war.
Kyren sensed the major bloodlust wafting off Mors so he called forth his Soul Staff, which is his second-most powerful weapon he has access to.
The guards shouts doubled when they saw that they were in the presence of two mages. Livia tried to call on her own magic but for an unknown reason couldn't.
Luceria had her void magic activated because there has been a slight change of plan. Mors's magic looks too similar to her owns but her bloodline is very pure. If you are not a member of the Voidcore family, you would not have access to void magic. Mors however, has access. Although his 'void' magic has a different color, those wisps of smoke could not be mistaken. He has a form of void...variant, he must be an offspring of the Voidcore bloodline. She couldn't question him now, she was feeling a heavy pressure of killing-intent from the boy. It was not directed at her but she still felt enough of it for her to deem him as a threat. Her little game would have to be post-poned for now.

Aether-powered Skyships prowl the skies, as all the great nations blessed by the Gates try to turn the blessings of the Labyrinth into immediate advantages. They know little of what that means, but they have to figure out the rules that are now their lot, for they have little hope to escape their predicament otherwise. They need to understand what the descriptors in their minds mean, what each of the strange piece of gear waiting in treasure chests behind terrible guardians can bring them. They have to become Professionals on their own and rejoin the Empire. They will figure out their new lives one way or another. But will there be an Empire waiting for them when the Gates re-open? Caught in a clash of empires and high tiers, they will do what little they can. They will step up and do their best. One way or another. The Infinite Labyrinth is a slice-of-life litRPG adventure set in a real historical setting. It's a hard, crunchy litrpg. Expect blue boxes everywhere, and the system itself is very mathy. It started life as a serial. I prepared some proper worldbuilding, with enough details and background for lots of different potential story arcs, but as I wrote, I realized the main story needs to have a definitive end. So, there are four books in total, for a bit under 1500 pages, plus additional side stories, and even maybe a sequel one day. The Gore tag was added as a precaution because there are a few scenes with some light gore.
