Greg could not help but be taken aback at the internal map he followed within his mind. A video game’s arrows and meters until finally reaching his destination. A part of him wanted to be excited for a life of magic and mysteries, but the realistic speck of his brain revealed that the young man was in fact, a little terrified. It probably didn’t help that the low lighting and darkness prevented him from seeing much of the academy during the trip.
He opened the door, flipping on the lights and was greeted with a dorm room the size of his apartment, perhaps a little bigger. It came equipped with modern appliances, a desk and laptop, and even fresh blankets on top of the bed.
“Not bad,” Greg said as he entered the cool room and allowed the door to shut behind him.
Unfortunately, he couldn’t keep dark thoughts from shoving their way into his brain, the consequence of being alone at that moment. The pizza delivery did help a bit, but eventually the young man felt the uneasiness return.
He really died…But now he was alive and breathing, never actually experiencing the trauma of whatever killed him. Thank fuck he wasn’t sitting in the blackness for very long. Something like that led to raw insanity.
For now, Greg couldn’t allow what happened to break him. For now, he’d see this as a new chapter of his life. Maybe a journey to return home and hopefully as quick as possible. His family and friends probably attended his funeral…Wrote the young man off as dead.
No, he mustn’t think that way.
The nun woman clearly wasn’t normal, her glowing gold eyes mystifying Greg even hours later. She was clearly related to God somehow, right? One of his servants or something. Why else would she be there after he literally died?
To think that the fires of freaking hell were below him. And then to be told about this land of the dead, a world called Satovia, and that somehow getting home was entirely possible. But they were going to make him learn it, do it himself instead of just sending the young man back.

If they went through this effort, surely the nun or maybe someone above covered up his death, right?
She…said something about Greg not entirely being human.
He looked into the mirror, clenched and unclenched his fists, but really didn’t feel any different.
The last thoughts for that night were swirling around the possible reason why a supernatural organization was on a so-called protected planet. Who was this mysterious cousin? The young man had a few that he hadn’t talked to in a while, those cousins being Brad, Frank, Nathan, Bubba Joe, Hunka, Nutto, Justin, Charlie, Lila, maybe a few others.
All of them were married except for Justin, Charlie, and Lila. They were college students.
Fortunately for Greg, he was able to drift off to sleep with a vow to find his cousin, not the thought of life and death.
Morning…
[System alert. It is time to prepare for classes.]
“I already graduated,” Greg mumbled as he turned over in his sleep. Then realization dawned. The prompt overrode his dream, forced him awake and there, the young man remembered that he now lived in another world.
At least the college he had to do over was for magic and not academic subjects. Not that he’d be surprised if the nights of endless studying returned. At the very least, the young man wanted to toss a fireball. How cool would it be to fly around like his favorite superhero? The guys…oh wait. Greg was somewhat threatened with death if the magical secrets leaked to Earth.
After dressing, Greg willed the system to first direct him to the breakfast hall. The journey felt quite bumpy as he dipped and weaved through the multitude of students trying to get to class. At least he could finally see what the academy looked like now, and the décor was quite impressive. From crystal-like tiled floors to the cliché but classic chandelier lights, and carpeted stairs of an indoor high-class institution, one could tell this was a place for the privileged.
Hell, the academy size, and its halls felt endless. The same could be said about the cafeteria. He had no trouble getting breakfast and finding a seat.

The nervousness within reemerged, but it would be ridiculous to think the afterlife would be some kind of magic academy. But what if it was and they were trained to fight demons or something. No…he was essentially wearing something that resembled a Japanese school uniform. Regardless of what the fuck went on, there would be no way they’d train to fight Hell in uniforms like these.
In fact, not all students were…human. The young man had to force himself not to stare at what appeared to be real fucking elves, dark elves, fairies, and other types of beings. They were of course few in numbers, mostly humans dominated things, but one could not miss those who stood out.
Unless this was some kind of elaborate cosplay. Yeah, that had to be it. The system slapped away the denial immediately.
[System notice. There are races other than humans on Satovia. Befriending any could be an insight to an interesting culture.]
[You may use a hidden special ability known as Analyze. Think, Analyze while targeting someone in front of you. Be warned, someone with the sense will know if they’re being analyzed. It can be considered rude in some cultures or downright offensive. It is recommended to use it before engaging into combat situations.]
Pfft, Greg wasn’t trying to enter any so-called combat situations. This was a fucking school, right? A…school that taught real magic. Real magic! And…one huge use for magic, especially when it came to humanity, was in fact fighting and killing. At least in the books, movies, and shows.
After finishing his surprisingly normal breakfast of what appeared to be French toast and bacon, he started for the first class.
“What kind of fucked up shit is this,” Greg said softly. “I just freaking died and they’re making me take classes the next day.”
Hell, he just graduated.
Still, the opportunity to learn real magic, not whine about it like a little bitch. And he certainly believed it existed. His experience of flying over fire and appearing in an entirely different world with a system…Not even drugs could produce a delusion like this. Otherwise, some weebs he knew would call it a miracle drug or the holy grail. Like his cousin, Charlie.
Of course, if it weren’t for Charlie’s dumbass sister or fucked-up parents, the poor guy would at least be less depressed.
Greg shook his head. He hadn’t seen any of his ants, uncles, or cousins since the last family reunion. Worrying about them while in a potentially dire situation was unwise at that moment.
Abruptly, a fairy girl the size of a pencil whizzed by him.
“Hey! Wait up!” a feminine voice called.
Before he could move out the damn way, the girl bumped into him.
“Jesus Christ, you…” Greg paused to see the girl from the prior night groaning. He began to wonder if she was the embodiment of bad luck and contact with her meant pain. Oh wait, that was probably himself. Well, at least she wore the same uniform as the other women. No special treatment in that department.
“Sorry…” she froze. “You. Jeffery Webber, right? Or was it, Ben?”
“It’s Greg,” the young man said as he shot her a flat stare. He assumed the nun told her everything about him. Most people normally asked, “who the hell’s that?” anyway.
“I’m Ena Tanaka,” she said. “You already know the dean’s my mom. Anyway, I have to catch up to my friend before she gets me in trouble.”
The walk to class after that run-in was pretty much uneventful. Given how young and beautiful Ena’s mother looked, he wondered if the silver hair was simply dyed.
Something felt a little off with this world, but the young man’s brain refused to piece things together.
Ah well.
He stepped into the first class. And was promptly greeted by a teacher smashing a pie into some girl’s face.
