“Katie, listen. Concentrate.”

Wait. It happened again. The voice.

“You can do it. Good. Now try answering back.”

It says again. But this time I pay attention. I find it rather hard to remember what they said, now that they’re not saying it anymore. But I answer the call. (A/N: if speech is marked like ‘this’ it’s Katie thinking back, and if it’s like “this” it’s the mysterious voice.)

‘Who are you? Why can I hear you?’

“I don’t know. I assume it’s because you’re dreaming.”

‘No I’m not, I’m awake...’

“Are you sure?”

I pause, considering the fact that I may be asleep.

‘No...’

“Exactly. I think you are having a dream, a deep one, as if you wouldn’t be able to wake... And that would allow us to communicate.”

‘That... kinda makes sense? Wait, how do you know my name?’

“I’ve had dreams about you, Katie. Glimpses. It reminds me of when I had glimpses of my... actually, I’m not supposed to tell you yet.”

‘What? Do I know you or something? Tell me your name!’
