《The Howling Dust》Chapter 11

Flying was really a great experience, it was fun and no matter how many times Gordon did it, it always felt exhilarating. Fresh air and the way the wind caress his face was intoxicating, like right now he floating above the small ponds with the blow of wind swirling around him. He has plan to roam the forest before going to his office tomorrow, whatever problem waiting there he would face it tomorrow. Mostly he would dump all of it to Mr. Sully, after all he had offering himself to became his assistant.
He couldn’t believe that he finally find the small pond, after hours flying in the forest without certain destination he accidently found it and the fresh water in it was still fresh even though there was no rain to replace the water. He thought that the small pond maybe a magical pond which ability was to keep the water inside it always fresh, very astute and considerate whoever that made it in the middle of the forest.
He extends his hand and Autums flow through his body, like a new pet it was eager to answer his call. But this time he won’t control the wind; this time he would train his dust power. It was weird that he could control the dust above the ground but can’t control the earth, he had thought it through many times but the answer eluded him. Was it the same, between dust and the earth that dust actually came from earth then why the different. He could felt the dust in the air, a lot of it actually exist in the air, small things that we human incapable to see it but it always there.
He move the swirling dust around him to one of the trees around the ponds, he made it spinning fast around it like mini tornado, then he compress the dust and made it move faster. The bark of the tree starts to get shredded, and when the mini tornado got faster the whole tree just gone became a piece of wood that blown everywhere. It was amazing that a dust capable of doing something like this, a lot of dust an unlike wind that doesn’t actually has weight so he need a lot of it to destroy things the dust was more than efficient to be used as shredded tool.
After seeing the capabilities of his dust, Gordon wondering that if the outcome of his battle against Tal would be different if he could use the dust properly at that time. He remember that Marcon once said that using dirt was the best way to put out fire after a night rest, it covers the burning log and leave no smoke. But he did using dust when he fought Tal, he just not used it smartly, instead of using dust to attack Tal, he better use it to cover his body. Well, maybe he will cooked inside his dust, but if he created a sphere of dust that big enough and stay in the center of it he may able to end the battle unscathed and his mother wouldn’t die.
Gordon shook those thought from his mind, there was no benefit dwelling in the past. His eyes catch a body of squirrel neared the destroyed tree, it looks dead, maybe it was on the tree when his dust destroyed it. He extend his power to its corps, he doesn’t know why he did that but there was something in the back of his mind, some murmurs that he can’t understand but he felt compelled to do what it want. The corps, he doesn’t understand why his power wanted the squirrel corps so he abide by it and extend his awareness to the corps and when his mind touch it a jolt of information enter his mind, about its muscle, bone and how it move. He could felt it, his power wanted this crops, it want to claim it, so he cover the corps with his power then with his will he claim it as his.

Autumn runs wildly through his body to his extended awareness and to the corps of squirrel, it was like a dam has broken and tons of water suddenly floods his body for a second then it stop, leaving him gasp and out of breath. His eyes snap back to the corps, watch it with holding breath then it twitch a little that made him jolt in surprise, then it get up and move its head to his direction. all the hair on his body stood up when he see that happen, his heart beating so loudly he could heard it, then slowly it come closer to him, until it in front of him standing still like a statue.
“What the fuck!”
Whatever this magic thing was it spook him so much that he lost concentration on his wind and fall to the pond under him, soaking his body and clothe. He comes out from the pond the face the abomination in front of him.
“What are you? What have I done?”
His body tense, he was ready for a fight that never came. Unlike what he expected, instead attacking him the abomination just standing there without moving at all like a statue. And when he had calm his nerves he could felt it in the back of his mind, a bundle of presence that not there before, he tried to remember when was it appear, but he couldn’t. It wasn’t there before so it must appear when he raises this thing. His eyes was focus on the abomination and at the same time he tried to touch the presence with his mind, it was docile like a small stone that he could move anywhere he wanted but he somehow know that he can ordered it so he ordered it to jump.
Gordon raises his eyebrow looking at the jumping squirrel abomination in front of him, he had ordered it to jump and since then it had keep jumping nonstop. He wonder if he could do this thing to a bigger animal, imagine if he could raises a pack of wolf or a bear or better a dragon. He imagine rode his dragon to the capital, and landing in front of Princess Jassime, with a shining armor and a sacred blade he would be irresistible, she would begging him to marry her.
“Hehehehe….” He couldn’t help himself; it would become an amazing sight indeed. Worthy of a thousand years stories of his legend.
“Muahahahahahahaha……….” He would become a King after slaying a wicked knight and his ilk then live happily ever after.
The legend of Gordon, The Heaven Knight.
“Muahahahahahahahahahaha………………………………”
His crazy laugh was the only sound in the forest that one could hear; luckily he came to his sense after laughing for half an hour. He looked back at the squirrel and ordered it to climb his body, he still feel a little scared of it but now he know that it would never harm him; it was like his own limb but with its own mind so he calm himself and tried to look at it from different angle. What he did here was a great sin and blasphemy against the gods and human race, raising the dead was the most horrible things a human could do, if the Order of Araline know about it, he would die a thousand horrible dead, tortured with the most heinous torture a man could do, even his remains will be forbidden to touch the ground forever denied rest.
And what surprised him was that he didn’t care, sure he would do anything to keep it secret from them or he would have a hundred Knights on his ass. What he means was that he didn’t care at all that he had committed the greatest sin, sure it scare him at first seeing the dead moving again but after observe it for a while he could see that it has a lot of great potential like fighting the armies. If he ever in the position that he had to face a lot of people, he could use it as an expendable minion to exhausted his enemy then slay them when they are weak.

If I could use its sense it would be great, I could peek in any bathroom unimpeded, ehem… I mean I could use it as a scout to find my enemy and help my people.
He focused his mind to the presence in the back on his mind, he tried to submerge his consciousness with it and will it to give him it sense of visual. At first it was blur, blur everywhere then he start to notice that his vision had shifted, it was weird and made him disoriented until he steeled his will and use it to grab the vision then he could see again and by the look of it he see through the eyes of the squirrel. He ever thought than the squirrel vision would be this bleak, there were no color in it but he could focus more than he usually does.
He ended the sharing vision and had a headache for several second, must be because the shift of perception, as a human he shouldn’t see the world like that, it belong to squirrel. He felt disappoint that he could use it to his noble cause, and decide to try it with another animal, a bigger one. So he fly and seeking a bear or a wolf, but after flying around he couldn’t find any of them. He goes to the mountain hoping that something caught his eyes, and there in the one of the sloops between big rocks he found a weird animal, it was as big as cow with fur around its body. He would thought what it was a bear if not because its three horn, one in each side of it head and one in the middle of it forehead.
Whatever it was, Gordon decided that it would became his second minions, so he gathered dust around its head and made it enters its nose and mouth, he wanted to choke it to death. The animal was trashed around ramming the rocks with its head trying to lose that made it can’t breathe. He felt a little guilty seeing the animal fought for its life because he wanted a second minion, but it he stand by his choice and accept the guilty, he had to get used by it because he was sure it won’t be the last times he takes life.
After struggling hard for it life, the animal gone still and Gordon starts his ritual to raise it back and soon his second minion standing in front of him ready to do his command, he examined it and found that it has a lot of fur than a bear or wolf, and it rough. It cannot be made into clothes; no one would want to wear it. But it still could be used as floor mats or anything that needed a warm layer.
Gordon sighed; he should focus on his training instead of thought about cloth or fur. But now he hungry, so he expands his awareness, fusing it with the wind and spread it as far as he could to catch an animal and found nothing, he should expected it after all he had flying around and found nothing except this poor fellow. He wonder where the hell all the animal, it was a forest for god’s sake, he remember that when he lost here there were a lot of animal.
He glanced over his shoulder to his first minion, he thought if he couldn’t find anything he still has the squirrel and its meat should be fresh because it was dead not too long ago, but after considered it for a while he decides to keep it, after all it was his first so he will treasure it. Then he looked at his second meat, the poor fellow was really pitiful. It just dead painfully to serves his course then before it do its duty it has to dead again to serves his other course.
“Sorry pal, I hope your soul or mind can find happiness in whatever you are end up.”
Gordon takes back what he gives the big animal then suddenly it lost its strength and fall. He take out his knife intend to skin it and eat its meat, but when he touch its fur he remember that he doesn’t know anything about skinning big animal, the training he got from a brief practice was about squirrel and chicken. He was pretty sure that he would be able to skin any animal if it was small enough, but an animal this big was needed some special technique which he didn’t have.
Gordon takes a deep breath trying to control his anger; he doesn’t have planned to keep this fellow as it was too big to follow him around. But he couldn’t just throw it after he killed it; it was a waste of resource and felt like a big sin in his eyes so he sat on one on the big stones and thought about his option. He chided himself for not thought it through before killing the animal, but it has been done so he tried to find a solution for his problem.
He then decides that he would bring the animal to the village, that it was his hunting prize and settle with small fruit for now. He had seen a lot of apple and berry when he fly before, so he gather dust on the animal and hang it up side down then slit its throat using wind to bleed it because hunters will suspicious of him if he bring a dead animal without a wound on its body. He keep it hanging down and hoped that its blood still able to flows down or hunters will suspicious because even though it’s throat had been slit it’s still contain a lot of blood.
He contemplated about his new ability to raise the dead and how to use it to his advantage, he had proved that he could raise a big animal without a problem so the next step should be testing his minions advantage and disadvantage, it would be very important for a battle if he knew what to expect from his minions. And the last was to try to raises a dead human; he felt a shiver in his spine when he thought about it. Without a doubt it will be a great sin to do it but it was one of his advantages, so he wouldn’t cast it out just because someone said it forbidden. He would need to test it first though, if his human minion was an idiot he would rather use animal than human.
He had heard it before that the raised dead human was called zombie, a feral creature that doesn’t remember their own family or friends. If It’s come to that he would find another way, but he somehow know that his minions would be different, because he could felt it in the bundle presence in the back of his mind an intelligent and intent of the squirrel, it’s not mindless.
After hanging this big fellow for several minutes, Gordon decides that the blood that flow out of its body was enough that he hoped hunters won’t suspicious. He wrapped it in a ball of wind and fly, back to the village and takes the apples and berry on the way home.

A-Live AI
The year is 2247. For almost two hundred years Sentient AI research has been banned. Everyone knew this, and yet no one has ever given up on finding the perfect setup for it. Restricted AI are rare, but possible to get ahold of if you have the money and the clout to get through the law for it. Especially when it deals with the military. Alfred Homis is an engineer and has spent the last three years working for the United Terran Military's Research and Exploration Department. Specifically to help build a 'shackled' AI who's prime directive was to explore potentially habitable worlds. Worlds that are far cheaper to colonize and add to the United Terran Directorate's fold than terraforming. During the AI's maiden voyage things go horribly wrong, taking Alfred Homis along for the ride. Thrown into a parallel universe where the laws of physics are just a little messed up, Alfred finds himself trapped inside the very machine he'd helped to build. Add magic, hostile fantasy creatures, and two different pantheons of 'Gods' to the mix and things get even more complicated. Oh, and an invasion between universes to boot. But that's just all in a days work though for Alfred, the AI Lord. Authors Note: Hi guys! Long time no see. And yes, I know that's all on me. But I blame life for that. Anyway, this is my new work, and I hope you guys enjoy it! The chapters are a little shorter than I'd previously posted in my other stories, but I cannot say that I have the same amount of time or energy to write them like that anymore. Sorry about that. Still, some warnings: There is cursing in this story. I am not going to edit it out. There will be sexual content later. Blood, gore and cruel depictions are all planned. If that isn't your thing, I'd suggest you turn back now. There is also my dry, and often not-so-funny sense of humor. And oh, it's all in first person gain. Haha. I just tend to write better that way. If none of that bothers you, then enjoy the read! Feel free to comment, point out mistakes, or make suggestions! Reviews are nice too, but please lay off the criticism until the story gets good and going. Thank you. Note 1: Some edits to the synopsis.
