Amity sighed as she got her latest piece done. When she’d been in the cafeteria today, Luz had managed to start choking on a chicken bone and something about it just made her have to draw the idiot saving her. Because it was cute! No, dumb! Beautiful! Ugly! Amity groaned as she smacked herself. She wasn’t even with anyone. She didn’t need to be doing this. It’s not like anyone could hear he-

“Hey, Amity!”

The serious girl let out a shriek before holding the picture out to her familiar. “Abomination, devour!”

The familiar took a moment to figure out how to follow the command before rolling it up, folding it once, twice, and then swallowing it. All the while, Luz walked closer and closer to Amity and her abomination. “Uh, what’s that?”

“Nothing!” Amity’s mind screamed at her as she tried to figure out what excuse to use. Bad fanart? No, Luz loved seeing those. Something Emira and Edric gave her? But then they would have been able to laugh about it. Wait, she knew! “Uh, it was a weird letter I got from… Boscha?”

One of Luz’s eyes twitched involuntarily before the human smacked the side of her head to fix it. After all, she said she was willing to give Boscha a shot. She shouldn’t feel white hot fury at the idea that her and Amity were passing notes to each other. “Well, I can get wanting to get rid of that.” She then, happy that they had something to change the topic to, pulled out her phone and earbuds, “Now, are you ready for some human music?”

Amity let out a heavy sigh of relief before she scooted over for Luz to come onto the bed with her. When the human had first offered it, Amity had straight up passed out at the idea of the two sitting there, enjoying music, shoulders against each other, head against Luz, falling asleep slowly… It was too much for the girl. After a week of preparations though, she considered herself ready. Bare minimum, she wasn’t going to fall asleep because she had no idea what she’d do if she woke up and Luz’s face was right in front of her. Even worse was what might be playing when she did. “Yep. I just hope it’s everything you said it would be.”

Luz bounced down onto the bed before pulling up her playlist and hitting random. “Well, I promise that there’s about a seventy percent chance it will be good.”

Amity raised an eyebrow at her crush. “Uh, why seventy percent? Couldn’t you choose a playlist that’s just good?”

Luz glanced away as she slapped her legs before finally saying, “That would imply I’ve organized my music.”

There was a pause between them before Amity merely shrugged and picked up the right earbud. They didn’t want to disturb anyone after all and Luz had already said she had a bad habit with singing along to music. So did Amity, but she didn’t know these songs, which she was quite thankful for because she did not want Luz hearing her awful singing voice.

Luz glanced at the first song and sighed in relief. Sure, it was country and not everyone was into it, but it was easily one of her favorites. She couldn’t entirely remember why though. Oh well, she’d do what the title said and follow her playlist’s arrow!

If you don’t save yourself for marriage you’re a whore-ible person.

Amity bounced her head along with the strumming guitar a little as listened. She’d always been a fan of softer music, though that may have been because that’s most of what her parents let her listen to. She did know she didn’t enjoy Thrash Metal though when Emira introduced her and Demon Rap cursed too much for her liking. Luckily, Edric promptly stopped that when some demons put the ‘poser’ in his place.

If you can’t lose the weight then you’re just fat.

Luz thanked her phone for choosing something light and soft to start with. Even better was that now she was remembering the song and telling Amity to chill was always a good thing in her opinion. So why was something screaming in the back of her mind.

Damned if you do and you’re if you don’t so you might as do whatever you want.

Amity began tapping her legs in time with the beat as gave out a relaxed sigh. She could tell when a chorus would kick in but she’d have been honest with it staying this relaxed. Titan knew she needed it most days.

So make lots of noise! Kiss lots of boys!

Luz relaxed as she felt that small part of her brain relax. She didn’t know why she was so worried after all. This was country music. What was the worst-

Or kiss lots of girls, if that’s something you’re into.

Both of their eyes snapped open as their minds collectively screamed at the line, not helped by the next line saying, When the straight and narrow gets a little too straight.

Amity and Luz both let out a nervous laughter as they looked away and broke out into cold sweats. The serious girl’s mind was racing a mile a minute as she tried to handle… That. Was Luz trying to tell her something? But she hit random. Or did she? Did she actually have playlists and made sure they’d hear something like this, or was it Luz being Luz? But what if Luz being Luz was shown in that line?

Meanwhile, Luz’s mind had just kind of stopped. The second chorus was playing now and she needed to figure out something to do to fix this. Something to ease the tension. Oh, she knew what she could do! She could sing along to make it seem like this was something she casually listened to. That she liked this but it was just another song.

And so, when the last round of the chorus started, Luz began quietly singing along like she’d just picked it up from the other two repetitions. Amity’s eyes were trained on her crush though as the first two lines passed. Luz wasn’t going to sing the third line though, right? Right? She wasn’t going to do something that amazi- Awful! Great! Amity what is wrong with you!?

“Or kiss lots of girls, if that’s somethi-”

Luz choked on her words as she realized that she not only started singing the line, but had also started singing it louder and more confident than the other two times. Her head snapped to the side and caught Amity, barely a breath away, staring at her. They were both silent as their faces radiated heat against each other.

Luz then took out her headphone, reached over to the window next to Amity’s bed, and leaned over until she flipped out of it. Amity let out a panicked squeal before she leaned out the window and yelled, “Luz!”

The human flipped over from where she had fallen. She then gave Amity a big smile, as the fall had momentarily reset her brain, and a thumbs up, “I’m okay!”

Amity nodded before yelling, “Okay! You just stay there and I’ll be down in a second.”

Luz’s brain then remembered what had just happened and she shrieked, “No!” She then scrambled to her feet and began jogging in place. “I was, uh, just being efficient! Yeah! Time save and all. But I have a thing to go do and it's a totally real and totally important… thing so… I gotta go!”

Amity sighed as her crush ran off before she fell back against her bed. She then looked at Luz’s phone and saw that she did indeed have only one playlist of over a thousand songs. So it was just a coincidence. A weird, embarrassing, exciting coincidence.

The blushing girl then sucked in her lips before deciding to see what other ‘coincidences’ might be on the phone.
