《The price of wonder[hinatus]》Prologue - 00

Good evening, have you heard of the great achievements of the so called Magisters?
Trained and willing to bend the very laws of our world to their every whim, they manipulate
the energy that fills our world to create miracles and wonders. But as a coin, there are
always two sides to a story, so let me tell you of the side behind the miracle, for every
wonder has its price.
Our story unfolds in a world much like yours, so similar yet so different. Follow me
into the depths of the burrow and decide for yourself if this price may be too high.
Thick fog billows over the mountains grazing the pine trees that litter the valley with
their thick grasp. There in the centre of said valley on a rocky cliff thrones a mighty tower,
glittering in the sparse light and warding off the thick fog. Its delicate arches and
massive walls speak of the wonders it might contain. But it is deep under its lowest floor,
shrouded in the catacombs that reach deep into the earth right now the price for
another magic is paid.
A young human girl is strapped to an earthen table in one of the rooms, she feels fear for she
knows what is approaching. The wooden door protests against its opening as the wrinkly
figure of a stern man in a long robe forces his entry. A wave of his hand ignites the
crystals in the ceiling banishing the darkness in the room with their pale light. The man
scoffs at the obvious discomfort of the girl, donning a white glove with blue symbols he
traces the odd bumps on her bare back.
Seemingly pleased with whatever he just found a smirk flashes across his sunken cheeks.
With the grace of practised movement he opens the wooden case he brought along, unveiling

its silvery contents. Rows upon rows of knives and bottles, his hands stroke across the
blades seemingly undecided which one to choose. A glint in his eyes signal his decision as
he grabs a small sliver blade not unlike a scalpel.
With a swift movement he cuts open one of the bumps retrieving a small green package
from underneath the skin. Checking its contents he repeats this with 5 more of the bumps
retrieving two green and three blue packages. Exchanging his blade for needle and thread,
he proceeds to seal the wounds. After applying a cream to the cut and checking his work he
removes her binding and dismisses her.
Wordless and near soundless the girl disappears into the endless labyrinth that are the
catacombs. For she is one of the servants of this tower and this is her story.

Somebody Stop Her
In a world of villains and heroes, the Kilborne family moved to the small town of Saint Mary. Their new neighbors, living in the 1888 Saint Mary cathedral, turned out to be a family of supervillains. Martin Kilborne would find school perfectly mundane if it wasn't for Alexa Terranova who is: constantly bothering him with a pocket raygun, demanding he become her minion and threatening to blow up the principal's office in a series of unnecessarily complicated, wacky plots. The more Martin learns about Alexa, the more dangerous and insane his life becomes as he is dragged into terrible, misfortunate, no good adventures of doom. A wholesome, slice of life, superhero / supervillain sci-fi comedy, sprinkled with elements of horror.Participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge - 55'555 words in 35 days!Dedicated to my daugher who has an unbendable stubborn spirit and my friends at the Silver Pen server who motivated me to write new things!

Waking Up
The story of Larin the Builder in the aftermath of Awakening This short story is the epilogue of Awakening, the first book of the Chronicles of Mother's Gate series. This epilogue is a great follow-up to the novel, a bonus story that adds extra layers between books without being necessary to the main storyline.Waking Up follows the story of Larin, who is alive but unconscious after her ordeal in the Nine Hells. She awakens in A'lara City a few days later and recuperates under the steadfast care of her repentant friend Jorn.As she reacclimates to her waking state, Larin struggles with her gruesome memories of the Hells and her decision to conceal them from Jorn. This story answers the question, Is Larin all right? with a resounding yes, and some storms on the horizon. It also raises the question, What happened to her down there? and includes an excerpt from the sister story Falling Down, about Larin's ordeal in the Nine Hells. Praise for Waking Up and Falling Down: Loved it. The difference between the two stories is great! The difference between Waking Up and Falling Down is astounding. So much light and love in the first story. You feel safe reading it. Healing. The second, so much darkness, pain and despair. The choice of vocabulary is awesome and makes an impact. And this set of short stories ties the two books together so well.-- Dana V. of Texas ★★★★★

Kalar's Continent
Magic is a fickle thing, hard to grasp and even harder to truly master. Mana flows through everything in the world, every rock, plant, and human. They all breath, grow and influence their surroundings in their own right.Join Teo, a bright young boy with a gift for Arcane Magic, through his journey to tackle the Elements, master his Craft and climb to the very peak of magic itself.Who will he meet, friends or foes? Trusted companions or bitter rivals? Will he be able to find his answer and get to the real meaning of magic, all while wrestling with the complex laws of nature and his own unripe emotions? There is only one way to find out.The story will start with a few chapters of introductions in volume 1 to establish the characteristics and the nature of the world the characters live in. After that, it will probably become a lot more fast-paced and incorporate real story progression. My goal is to fuse the common magic advancement system in a weak-to-strong fashion, together with elements of naturalism, magic combat action and little bits and pieces of science, wherever necessary, to form a bright and interesting story about a boy chasing his dreams about magic.
