Weapon Based Magic
Weapons attune with the wielder and they may only have one weapon at a time. All weapons come with basic magic, which is the ability to teleport to the user wherever they are. Teleported weapons lose durability and will break if teleported too many times. Broken weapons can be discarded or reforged.
Main magic. Weapons have a magic missile. This only shoots in a straight line. No gravity bending bullets. Missiles need to be “charged”. Charged missiles travel longer distances, but the power remains the same. I.E., a shot of 1 metre is the same destructive power as 20 metres. Power is based on the wielder’s attunement level. Like teleporting, the weapon loses durability for each magic shot.
Passive magic. Weapons can absorb magic from special fonts. These magic fonts restore the weapon’s durability. Durability level always remains the same. I.E., it does not become more resistant to breakage. Restoring at a font increases the user’s attunement level.
Class magic. This gives some uniqueness to individuals. This type of magic is inherent. It’s restricted to buffing and debuffing. No healing magics because healing removes a lot of danger. E.G., a person can buff agility for themselves but not for others and vice-versa. This should create variety and every person is somewhat unique. The cost of class magic is a special bean that tastes like jelly beans and comes in different flavours. Like a sugar rush, class magic is temporary.
Ultimate magic. Just what you think they are. Every person has big fancy magic unique to them. This can be pretty much anything except healing because healing is SHIT. Shielding/absorption is allowed. The cost of ultimates is severe weapon durability damage. If the enemy survives an ult (and hasn’t used theirs), the user becomes disadvantaged unless they’re really good with their fists. Ultimate magic is discovered by visiting magic fonts, kind of like solving a jigsaw puzzle.

Economies of magic. People are divided into the usefulness of their class magic. Their future is mostly decided when they’ve shown off the type of magic that is inherent within them. If one’s class magic is to buff the quality of plant growth, then they’re expected to pursue a career in horticulture or agriculture. If one can debuff pain perception, then they might be a surgeon, etc. “Magic racism” exists.
Jelly beans are everywhere. It’s near impossible to find a store that does not stock beans, even in the most rural areas. Beans grow effectively in temperate climate, so there’s a lot of active research to optimise green houses for bean culture.
Magic fonts exist all around the world (mostly in dungeons). A font can only be used once per weapon.
Adventurers are rare. Societies have optimised the use of class magic which means adventuring is the equivalent of being a NEET. The main reason for adventuring is to protect the world from monsters, many of which are now being taken care of via advances in science.
Basic plot structure. A demon lord is fed up with the racist humans and wants “equal rights.” He travels with his band of champions, visits magic fonts, terrorises the general population, all the bad guy stuff. The story follows the rise of the demon lord and his successes. The hero is trying to gather a band of adventurers, but most people are reluctant (they don’t want to be branded a “NEET”) and expect the government to protect them.

A Pirate's Life for Mei
In the future, prisoners are no longer kept in traditional prisons. They're put into comas and permanently dwell within realistic, full-dive virtual worlds. Mei is a journalist and activist falsely convicted of political crimes after accusing an official of sexual harassment. She finds herself in chains aboard a ship in the Caribbean, a prison realm set in 1675, in the age of sail. Oversight is corrupt and the guards are violent. While most prisoners sullenly endure their hardship, Mei knows that this world has a loophole: prisoners can buy their freedom — if they can get the gold. And this also happens to be the golden age of piracy. Yo ho, yo ho. It's a pirate's life for Mei. Book 1 Mei arrives in the Caribbean and battles for her freedom against the devilish English navy, is kidnapped by Caribs, and comes face-to-face with a jaguar. She recruits fellow prisoners in an attempt to steal a boat and flee the prison colony. Book 2 Mei and her crew arrive in Sint Maartin and learn that the French and the Dutch are at war! As Lance, Juan, and Cheeto face their pasts, the crew becomes privateers. Their first prize: a ship full of rum and a week of drunken debauchery in Curacao. A vampire was destroyed in the city of Two Rivers.
