《LEUR: The Unsung Tales》Chapter 6: The Dark Elf Incursion Part 2

Anna stares at Amadeo blankly, her eyes almost dulled as she looks at this frail wizard, his life bleeding out before her. This man who has known her for less than half a day, yet tried to rouse her spirit to battle.
"Will you let another one suffer while you have the strength to fight? Or will you burn bright, my little elf?"
A spark lights in her eyes. and she cries out, reaching her hands toward Elaran. The air grows hot as golden tendrils wrap around the dark elf's form, linking the two of them. "I won't let you do it again. Do you hear me, Elaran?" A blast of that brilliantly colored force fires out, hitting Elaran in the stomach and pushing him back as the light binding him flares up, draining his strength. "Never again! Not on my watch!"
The dark elf steps back, surprised by Anna's sudden change. Her hair seems to tingle with the energy that envelopes her as she stands. For a moment, Elaran could almost swear he sees the figure of a woman behind her, burning bright and glorious. "What did you do, Anastrianna? What have you become?"
Ravana swings her hammer, knocking Hope back with a strong and solid hit. "What's the matter, devilkin? Can't take the heat?" Hope spits blood from her mouth and charges. "To hell with you!" One swing of her blade knocks the war hammer back.
"What, that's it?" Laughs Ravana before she gasps, a bolt sticking out of her chest. With the brute momentarily distracted, Hope rounds her sword back again to make another strike.
Elaran looks to Ravana, who holds her neck for a brief moment, stunned surprise on her face before she topples over, her head peeling off and rolling into the gutter. Hope turns to Elaran, Tyrion loads his crossbow, and Anna glares at the dark elf. He surveys the situation before sighing. "Fine. You win this time." His hands shift to form a sigil over his eyes, and the party's vision goes dark. By the time they realize what's happened, the dark elf is gone. All that remains is a hemisphere of absolute darkness that's soon dissipates.

Anna drops to her knees and carefully examines Amadeo. "Hey! Stay with me now!" The bleeding wizard coughs and groans. "Did we get em?"
"One of them. But that's not important right now. We need to get you to a healer." Hope kneels and pulls open Amadeo's tunic to reveal a deep laceration. "Oooh...Well, that ain't hardly a mosquito bite."
"Big mosquito." Amadeo mumbles. "Don't talk." comes the response from Anna, whose hands begin to glow softly with a golden light. "You're losing a lot of blood, so we don't have time to move you." She lays her hands against his wounds, the light coursing through and stitching flesh together with an ethereal glow.
After a few seconds, Anna pulls her hands back, the fading glow showing a now healed cut. "Ok. He's stable. But I can't do anything more for him now. I used up my one good spell hexing Elaran."
"Yeah, about that...You wanna explain." Tyrion comes over, having escorted the woman and child away to the few town guards who weren't scared off by the 'invasion' of 'twenty elves'.
Anna says nothing for a moment, before grabbing Amadeo's arm. "Help me get him up. We need to find a place to rest for a bit. Maybe then I can explain."
"We can take him to my room." Hope chimes in, and they follow her to the inn of the Robust Raven. She lets them into her room and closes the door after requesting lunch be delivered. "Alright. We're safe here, I hope."
"So-" Tyrion looks out the window a moment before closing the curtains. "Those goons. Who were they? They knew you, you knew them. What's the history?"
Anna sighs, laying the wizard down on the bed before collapsing into a chair. "Where do I begin?" She thinks for a moment and sits back. "I came from the world below. The world of shadows. Subterra."

Sanguine
The Coles are probably the definition of a small dysfunctional family, even if they weren’t the worst in existence; they would probably be lauded as an example of the term. The Coles were a small family though. The father, Oliver Cole, was an asshole ex-football jock who bounced around in small paying jobs after wasting most of his life drinking, drugging and whoring. The daughter, Stacy Cole, was smart, but had many issues including anger, trouble with authority, and occasional suicidal thoughts, and was kicked out of many a school for disruptive behaviour. The son, Mike Cole, was innocent, and tried his best to be kind to anyone and everyone, however his own speech impediment, and slow nature only aided people to bully and belittle him, including his own father. The Coles were indeed a dysfunctional family. At least they were, until they got to the small town near the border between the United States and Canada, Sanguine. Welcome to Sanguine. You will stay. With the exception of the first chapter, each chapter only follows one character. The first chapter is the only chapter in which I will include 'Sides' where it follows a different character. This is a short Lovecraftian story, it won't go above seventeen chapters. Note: the book cover is my first attempt, it might not even remain like it is, I was just tired of seeing the standard 'no cover' thing on it.
