《The call of curiosity》Prologue: A new life

An old man who looked like he was in his sixties stood alone in a large wooden room with no decorations or any kind of furniture in it. There was a yellowish-white light coming from a lone crystal installed into the roof of the hall, this was enough to light up the whole hall. This was his private room made solely for the purpose to allow him to train his swordsmanship, or rather mediate on it, as any practical practice would destroy it unless he held back. When they had started building it he had told them that there was no need to build a training hall inside the house, and while he may have failed in stopping them from building the hall at least he manage to convince them to let it be completely empty so that it could at least serve as a warehouse if the need arose. Thinking about it, why was there a need for the house made for his precious daughter-in-law to have a personal training space for him? A sigh escaped his lips when he thought of this, being the founder of a clan and a martial school carried an equal amount of benefits and demerits in his opinion. One of the demerits was the seemingly infinite admiration from pretty much everyone else in the clan and all the students and even other masters from the school. The only true exceptions being his direct family and the co-founders of the clan who had been friends with him for centuries at this point.
Well even if he complained, in-cases such as this he was happy that he had somewhere to go that was nearby were he could calm his nerves, and nothing managed to calm his nerves quite as much as going through sword forms did, well that was a lie, going into a meditative trance would allow his conscience to focus purely on the sword forgetting both sadness and happiness, letting the world slip into the background. Sadly, the nervousness that he wanted to escape from was not such an easy opponent and so he was blocked from entering such a trance.
Looking into the past, he had never managed to rid himself from this nervousness that plagued him everytime his family was going to expand. How many times had he been trough this now? Once for his own child, once when his daughter-in-law was married into the family, although the nerves that time had lasted for days because of old stupid marriage customs. Weirdly enough he had been more nervous over his sons marriage rather than his own, the stupid brat, he had been sure that the brat would mess it up somehow. Ah, he was getting off track. Two children, counting his sweet daughter-in-law, and this would be his fourth grandchild meaning he had gone through this six times in the past, yet his nerves refused to end their war against him, stubborn bastards.

He had gotten completely sidetracked now and lost any focus he had on his sword. Letting out another sigh he started his practice from the beginning for the fifth time today. Fortunately he would not have to start over a sixth time as he heard a knock on the door interrupting him before he could get sidetracked by his own thoughts again.
"Enter." his voice was loud and commanding, it also penetrated the wooden door courtesy of being infused with just a slight bit of his spiritual energy, a habit left from his days as a commander.
The door opened and a young man who was trying to hide that he was out of breath entered, he bowed and then raised his head to look into the founders eyes with a look of admiration. It took a second before the young man started to speak.
"Reporting to the Founder! Amelia has given birth with no complications."
A smile instantly covered his face as happiness filled his heart. He had hired the best healers and magicians and used his own influence to invite high ranking priests, all to ensure that the birth would go smoothly but he had learned to never challenge fate by celebrating early. So hearing that everything went smoothly was a good blow to his nerves. He may not be able to completely rid himself of his nervousness before a few days had gone by but this was a good start to calming himself.
He immediately moved towards the door, the young man went to the side to let him go past him and leave the room. Outside the room was a hallway filled with glass windows that let the last rays of the settings sun enter the building and dyed everything in a orange light.
Normally he would wait for the young man to walk with him and give him some tips to progress either his cultivation or his martial arts but with his nerves putting up their final stand meant he didn't have the patience needed for that. He calmed his guilty conscience for not helping the youngster with the belief that he would not be able to help the young man much when he was in this state and that he would eventually meet the young man again and could guide him then.
With his conscience pacified for the moment he activated a movement art to speed trough the house and towards his daughter and new grandchild.
He made a quick pit stop to another room where he could change from his completely gray training clothes to a set of comfortable clothes, a white shirt and some black pants. He did not really need to change as he had not been able to properly train and as such both him and his clothes was still clean but it felt wrong to meet his new grandchild in a set of training clothes, even if the child would never remember this moment.

After changing he once more moved with such speed that normal people would have a difficult time being able to see him, with his strength and understanding of the movement art it was closer to teleporting rather running.
Soon he was in front of a set of double doors which would lead into the room with his daughter and presumably grandchildren. It was surprisingly quiet in the room, maybe his older grandchildren had been too distracted by their new sibling to cause a mess and shout at each other.
When he entered he saw his daughter laying down in a newly changed white bed, her golden hair fell from her head into two small hands who had a what would be a babies attempt at a death grip. Her green eyes where filled with amusement and love as she looked at her new child.
Before he could think about anything he had already closed the doors to give the baby and mother some privacy from the outer world. He was of course an exception as he could not stop himself from approaching them with quiet footsteps not even looking at the two attendants dressed up in a white robes with some verdant green lines who overlooked the mother and child to ensure no problems popped up.
When Amelia looked up at him she spoke in a very soft voice, but rather than speaking to him she spoke to her newborn baby.
"look who's coming now? Your grandpa is coming to see you, yes he is. Newly born but you already have so many visitors, your a popular little one aren't you? Aren't you?"
The baby seem to have no reaction to this other then trying to move her hair that was in its hands towards it's face. It might be surprising to some that the baby had enough energy to do this, but coming from a linage of high stage cultivators did come with some perks.
When he stood to the side he could see the little baby better, it didn't have any hair yet and it's eyes was the same bright green as his mother's rather then the blue of himself and his son.
After a few breaths Amelia looked back towards him and asked if he wanted to hold him.
"Do you want to hold him? He is quite energetic but still quiet, must have gotten some good heritage for him to be able to be so active."
When he heard that he was happy for a moment before realizing something and gave a sad and concerned look towards Amelia.
She noticed it immediately and spoke in a gentle voice again with a loving look towards her new son.
"Don't look so downhearted, as long as he's healthy I'm happy."
He once again smiled but this time there was a hint of concern in it. When he spoke he kept his voice down to not disturb the baby and mentally kept his energy in check to ensure his old habits didn't disturb his new grandchild.
"I understand. I will take him for now and take care of the tests so rest for a while and we will be back before you know it."
"Thank you Father."
After thanking him, she raised her son towards her face and place a kiss on his forehead before gently handing him over.
This was when a problem occurred as the newborn had no plans on letting go of his mother's hair, unfortunately he could not properly control his hands yet and his grip was weak enough that the hair simply slipped out from his hands. This forced him into using a babies greatest weapon, crying.
Seeing this his grandpa untied his own black hair and let it fall towards him and simultaneously raising him high enough that the shorter hair could reach him. This seem to satisfy him as he stopped crying and reached out and took the new hair into his hands.
Seeing this, Amelia could only smile.
The male attendant started moving when
To the side of the bed the male healer went towards a single door and opened it and waited.
Holding his grandchild he was distracted enough that he almost followed the healer into the test room without even asking Amelia something important.
"I almost forgot, what did you decide for his name?"
"He's named William."

Giantslayer
Synopsis: Alain is a fledgling Giantslayer, enhanced individuals capable of killing deadly giants. But these giants are not big, they are what ancient humans would refer to as mundane animals or beasts. 'The Final Curse' as many humans call it, was a curse that shrunk down the entire human population to the size of small rodents. When the curse first occurred, the majority of the human population was eaten by beasts who are now of towering heights and sizes. But their abandoned gargantuan structures were not built for naught, the remaining humans retreated back into their now giant buildings and rebuild societies and nations inside of them. Follow Alain in his quest to right the wrongs done to his past and hunt down the elusive and mythical Elder Giants, giants capable of intellects and speech. Are they real? Alain certainly insists so despite no one believing him. But perhaps it did not matter, they were real enough to him for what they did to his family. A/N: I'm pretty new to writing creatively so I hope to improve as we move along the story. The prose I use is still fairly simple and 'plain', but I am also new to literature in general so I am hoping to improve my vocabulary as well. It should also come under no surprise that I am a non-native English speaker and writer as well. With that said, I do appreciate constructive feedback. Please don't be overly mean at least. All the chapters are rough drafts that will be edited in the future. The cover is by this user from pixiv: https://www.pixiv.net/en/users/4545042
