I wanted to take some time and clear up somethings about the old man. He is simply put someone that lived to long and did to much in the best possible way. He is the last survivor of his group at the age of 83. He was a child when WWII started and grew up during the cold war with the threat of annilation hanging over his head. This taught him to be kind for kindness sake because the was no point to anything else.

Being young and dumb he decided to live an interesting life as most of us do at some point. The difference is that he was raised to always keep his word and he DID. This is also why at his age he would challenge Everest one more time. He simply put, said that he would. At this point he has lived longer then most and has doubts about seeing the next decade so he want to pass on the tales of his life and the lives of those that he was with before they are gone with him. It was during this time that he came across a boy that had a spark in his eyes. The same spark that led him to challenge the world. He view this boy as a sucessor of sorts.

In case you are wondering what he keeps claming up about it is war. It is one of the few things that he hates talking about because of the questions asked when he does. He was a pilot in the airforce of some fame. After serving his time he came to the conclusion that war is outdated and pointless in todays world. It used to be for land but now one farmer with a tractor makes that obsolet. That is not to say that he does not see the glory of war but that he also sees the long shadows that it casts.

His travels started at the age of about 16 and never really stoped. First he went to all the states and then set out beyond spending sometimes years in areas that he found exceptional. The thing to remember about him is that he was never satisfied with where he was and always looking for something different. Not because he did not like were he was but because he was a victem of endless wanderlust. He was driven to seek out new sights and new skys. He took some of the older kids and thier familys to Everist to maybe insprire them to stand as tall as he did.

He has also caused them to start caring about their fellow man more and become active in the comunity.
