This is not a chapter to help you gain reads, if you choose to not read this chapter then that is fine by me but this may be useful to you.

Despite this book's focus being on gaining reads, I'd like to share a word of advice. Reads do not determine how good your book is, never think because you don't have thousands that your book is a pile of crap. It isn't. Trust me.

When I wrote my first book on here, another author began writing her first book as well. Both of our books were SciFi, both had similar themes and for a while I had far more reads than her. I felt like my story must have been better than hers because of this fact- I was wrong. We both hit 1k reads at around the same time and the gap in our read counts became slimmer and slimmer. Until one day she overtook me.

I will admit that in the first few months of writing I was obbessed with reads, I craved them and felt jealous of people with more reads than me. This writer who wrote a book at the same time as me went on to gain thousands more reads while I remained at 1k. She is now on something like 30k and my past self would be bitter but I have learnt from this that comparing your success to someone else's isn't the way to go in life. There will always be someone with more reads than you, someone who has more votes or comments but you can't automatically think they are better.

Be comfortable in the amount of reads you have, be confident in your story. This message may seem contradictory to the whole concept of this book and I can see that. This guide is for people who, like my old self, felt validation from reads. Or simply believe they deserve more reads then they have.
