Elora

I changed into my track clothes, listening to a few of the girls talk to each other in the locker room. Willow already changed and bolted out to the track, leaving me to cringe at their conversations.

Homecoming is soon, and I swear that's all anyone talks about. People are so concerned about who they're going with and what they're going to wear. Don't they realize midterm is the week after homecoming? That's where my mind has been.

I finished getting dressed, deciding I'll tie my shoes when I get to the track. I carried my sneakers in my hand, walking out to the large track.

Our school is relatively small, seeing as it's an old small town. Around here, football takes the cake for everything. Coaches and teachers put football as their top priority, a lot of the time other sports get less practice time because of it. It's always annoyed me, but I can't change it.

That's why, although we have a match in under an hour, the football team is practicing in the field the track goes around. This is normal, we honestly practice with the football team most days.

I saw willow sitting on the track and approached her, "You abandoned me with the homecoming crazies again," I complained.

I sat on the rough track next to her, watching everyone run around. The bleachers are nearly empty, our match doesn't start for a long while.

I tied my black shoes, that match with my shorts, sports bra, and a jacket to go over. Willow was wearing a similar outfit, only hers was all light blue.

I'm usually all for colors, and I wear pastels most days. But during track, I stick with my black ensemble.

She cocked an eyebrow at me, "Why would I subject myself to that longer than I have to?" She smirked.

I giggled, completely agreeing, "Fair enough."

Willow and I sat there for a few minutes, letting the sun kiss our skin. It's so nice out! Our track coach, miss Daily, isn't here yet. But that's no surprise. Her husband is mister Daily, and he's the football coach. They think they're sneaky, disappearing all the time like this, but all the students know what they're doing...

Willow eyed me suspiciously, "Question," she said softly. I shrugged, telling her to continue. "You don't have to tell me, because it's not my business," she turned towards me, like we are talking about a secret. Intrigued, I nodded. She sucked in a breath, "You and Simon?" Willow practically spat, judgment all over her face.

Simon is the captain of the chess team I spoke to yesterday. I pushed my eyebrows together, "Me and Simon what?"

Willow put her hand on my knee and lightly shook me, "Girl, he told everyone that you two hooked up after school," she deadpanned.

I glanced around, seeing Simon sat in the bleachers with the rest of the chess team. He looked smug, and I even noticed a few of the more popular guys give him high fives as they walked by.

I'm confused. I looked back at Willow, "Hooked up as in, I met with the whole chess team to discuss funding?" I clarified.

She shook her head, "What an asshole," she mumbled under her breath. "No, he told everyone you boned."

My blood boiled, "Like sex?" I whispered, the word feeling dirty coming from my lips. I don't like talking about sex, it makes me uncomfortable.

She pressed her lips together and slowly nodded her head. "I knew something was up when I heard. First of all, because, no offense, but you're you. Second, ew Simon!" She cringed she shivered.

Why would he tell people that? Nothing I said or did hinted I was interested in him. And the whole chess team was there and could have vouched for me.

"Hey girlies," Jason jogged up to us, full football uniform on. Jason's a good friend, he's not very close with us, but we're in the same social class, so we talk every once in a while.

"Hey," Willow smiled, and I noticed her confident self become flustered. She likes him.

He said down next to us, wiggling his eyebrows at me, "So Simons been telling everyone you guys fucked. Most of us know he's full of shit though. Want me to kick his ass for you?" He smirked. Another thing about Jason, he's cocky.

I blushed, "No, I'm sure it's some kind of misunderstanding?" I tried to give him the benefit of the doubt.

Willow and Jason both chuckled at me. "Come on, Elora," Willow tilted her head. "You're smarter than that."

I sighed. I know, but I really don't want to accept that Simon would do such a low thing. Also, after the morning I've had, I don't want to deal with something like this right now.

I stood up, "I'll go talk to him, get things straightened out," I softly smiled at the two.

"If you need me to regulate, you know where to find me," he smirked, flexing his biceps.

I cringed, thinking even Danes arms are bigger than that, and he's the 'small' one out of the guys.

I turned, walking towards the bleachers. My eyes wandered everywhere, thinking of how I'm going to approach this.

My breath hitched, seeing my guys all sitting in the top left corner of the bleachers. Felix and Duke are here too...

How long have they been here? How much of that did they hear? They look really comfortable, they definitely didn't just get here. Oh god, Theo will never let me hear the end of it.

They were all watching me, each with different looks of concern. Theo's grinning like a mad man, probably finding this hilarious. Duke and Felix look extremely angry, making me avert my eyes from the two. Yikes. Eugene is standing up, looking like he's about to come down here and kill Simon.

I tried to lighten the mood, and let them know that I don't need help. I smiled and waved at the group. I'm honestly not that upset about what Simon said, just irritated. It's nothing I can't fix with a bit of passive aggression.

"Sit down, Eugene," I mumbled, knowing they can all hear me. I don't want to look like a crazy person talking to myself though.

Eugene cocked his eyebrow at me and with big gestures and hand motions, he mouthed, "Do you want me to kill him?" He ran his finger across his throat for good measure.

I giggled, shaking my head, "I'll let you know," I joked.

Eugene sat down, looking disappointed. He loves confrontation, and scaring the lights out of people.

But this is an opportunity for me to gain back a little self respect after my fit this morning. This is my chance to show Felix and Duke how strong willed I am, and that I can stand up for myself.

Simon tensed when he finally saw me approaching him and his friends. He looked like a deer in headlights. He knows what he did and can't even own up to it.

I walked up to the bleachers, standing in front of the first row where they sat. "Hi Simon," I smiled sweetly. "I just wanted to follow up with you about our meeting yesterday."

His small hands clenched and unclenched at his sides, and his forehead got grossly sweaty. Ew. "Oh," he muttered, looking like he's searching for the words to say. "Um, is there any new news?" He asked nervously.

I kept my composure. I like to confided myself a nice person, I don't get any satisfaction from being mean to people or bringing them down. Eugene and Theo tell me it's going to be my downfall, but I have my own ways of getting even with people.

I placed my hand on my hip, "Well people are saying the weirdest things today. Lots of rumors are getting spread around. That's really the only new news," I brought up the elephant in the room.

Simon turned pale, "I-I don't know what you're talking about, Elora," he tried, but it was a pathetic attempt.

I shrugged, smiling at him, "Don't stress about it. Anyways, I'm actually here to tell you that I'm going to defund and get rid of the chess club," I smiled sweetly.

Simons shoulders slumped and his friends all complained, but none of them even glanced in my direction. They were all scolding their friend, knowing I'm doing this out of spite.

Simon pushed his eyebrows together and glared at me, "Why would you do that?! Wait- you can't do that, you personally don't have the power or say in what clubs get shut down," he said confidently.

I cringed, "Unfortunately for you, I do." I smiled, "You see, the chess club costs money, with supplies and materials. The last time any of you won a match between another schools team was over a year ago, so I doubt the board would want to keep a club like that open. Financially, it's the smarter move," I explained.

Simon changed from pale to red and stood up. He's a bit taller than me, but I stood my ground. He pointed a finger at me, slightly getting in my face, "You can't do that!" He almost yelled.

I crossed my arms over my chest, thinking he looks ridiculous. He's trying to be intimidating, but I literally love with vampires. My smile left and I glared at him, "Sit down," I demanded firmly.

Simon flinched back and took a seat, glancing at his friends.

I cocked an eyebrow at them, "Believe me, I get no joy out of closing a whole club down. But your actions have consequences, Simon. Next time, choose your battles more wisely," I said. I stood there for a few seconds, watching their faces change from angry to sad, realization dawning on them. If they would have not lied, they'd still have their previous club.

I smiled again, "I'm really glad we got to talk again," I turned around, walking back to Willow and Jason.

I mean, they should know better about spreading a rumor about the Vice President and captain of the debate club. Is that something they thought would end well for them? I'm not the one.

I turned around, smiling at my guys up in the bleachers. Theo proudly nodded his head at me. Felix looked pleasantly surprised, and I could have flew at his expression. Yes! Duke still looked unsettled, but he gave me a small smile. "Thank you," I jokingly bowed, giggling as I turned and ran to my friends.

"Oh my god you made Simon cry!" Willow covered her mouth as she laughed. "What did you do?" She asked.

I sat next to her, "I pulled the VP card. I'm going to defund the chess club."

Jason widened his eyes, quickly laughing, "Remind me never to get on your bad side, smalls," he shared a look with Willow before getting up. "Kick ass girls!" He called over his shoulder as he ran back to practice.

Willow and I stood, seeing coach Daily make her way over to us. Her husband not far behind. Willow nudged me, "Oh my god she's limping!" She whispered.

She is limping. Every other step looks like it hurts. I folded my hands behind my back, "Uh oh, hopefully she didn't hurt her leg too badly," I said.

Willow sighed, hugging her arms around my head, "My sweet Elora, you're too innocent for this world," she gushed, laughing.
