Volume 1 Chapter 2 The Little Mole and the Army

The fire was falling down at abnormal speed; Mars barely had the time to react before being engulfed.

Quick thinking once again saved him, he dug a hole in the ground using his Chus infused spear, jumped in and covered up the hole with the dead body of one of Spencer’s teammates.

While the fire was raging outside, Mars took the time to reabsorb the Chus he had infused in his spear, not wasting energy was important in a prison break.

As he was doing that, he felt vibrations in the Volior rock bricks around him. Early in the gigantic scuffle, he could have thought that an enemy was preparing a great magical attack, but now, with every soldier on this floor dead...

He knew that he wasn’t alone, there was something else hidden underground.

The mole-like creature was sent down by Alan Hollan, he decided as Bonerest director to send his own private pet, he was afraid of Mars of course, but what really scared him was his superiors’ wrath.

In his fear he used every asset he could use, killing his men was a low price to pay to dissimulate the existence of his mole-like creature.

Mars sent Chus in his eyes to locate the source of the throbbing; nothing, he couldn’t find it, the Volior around them was blocking Chus localisation.

The shaking was getting stronger as time passed, the creature was getting closer. Mars realised it was used to scoop up dirt, it was moving quickly towards his location, the unknown foe had a way to find him and he didn’t, Mars was at disadvantage.

As always Mars had to act quickly, otherwise he would be harmed in a way he wouldn’t even be able to fence off.

Mars ended the summoning of his spear and instead used a hammer. Swiftly breaking the Volior around him, he dug a cavity in which fighting would be easier. But before he could completely finish his gap the monster had reached him.

The claw was right in front of his visage in a fraction of a second, the reaction time of Mars had taken a toll from his long stay in the darkness.

When he was finally able to defend himself, the shovel-like claw had already started to make its way in his flesh. He jolted backward with the most strength he could gather up. His eyes infused with Chus were able to partially see the varmint that was attacking him.

It looked pretty much like a mole, a pointed snout, shovel shaped claws, tiny eyes. The biggest difference he could see was the size of it; the grimy mole was bigger than him, and Mars estimated that what he could see was only half of its body.

Mars summoned two throwing knives and while he was falling backward he launched his knives toward the creature's forehead.

By instinct the beast lowered its head; following his plan Mars kicked the behemoth using his fall to hasten his boot.

The creature was hit on the chin, it let out a painful cry. Mars exploited this time window well; He operated his body to be back on his feet while he summoned a barbed hunting spear.

He drilled the hunting spear in the belly fat of the inferior organism, and as the creature was entering a stampede, Mars travelled to the back of the wild beast. Getting on its back wasn’t an easy task, the animal was crashing itself on all sides of the close space.

The creature sensed Mars’s cold chain going around its neck, it started to lose its breath, the pet panicked and tried to throw Mars off its back with wild moves but it was only making itself lose more oxygen.

The creature was not able to resist for long, its large body required a lot of energy and oxygen to move, but the reserves for both of these necessities were running out.

Once again Mars had triumphed against his enemy.

After defeating the mole, he knew the soul link between it and its owner would be broken, alerting the tamer of the life status of Mars.

Mars couldn’t go to the surface, without looking he knew it was either a scorching land or that there was a bunch of sentinel only waiting for him to show himself, maybe both.

Augustus preceded his digging, creating a tunnel towards the stairway. After what seemed like a way too long period, he eventually saw the bricks of the stairs.

Getting out of the ground was a catharsis; he was tired of the Volior mixed soil, the fetid odour of the mole was killing him and the time was seemingly stretching as it passed.

The stairs were curiously still in a good state, as he ascended to the upper floor he could hear Mages of the Water path flooding the bottom floor.

Mars remarked: “Funny, trying to drown me after trying to cook me alive, you got me by surprise last time, let me show you what being attacked when you’re not ready feel like”

The warlord now had enough Chus to use an actual spell and he was pissed, it was time for retribution.

Mars created a magical domain in his palms; He then expanded the War path domain as much as he could permit himself to.

The dominion of War quickly spread to cover the guards’ battalion. The moment the floor director took notice it was too late. Even for a warrior at the Tatum-level like him stopping an attack of this scale was too much.

And as rapidly as the domain took hold, the various weapons of the soldier fell under Mars’s authority.

The soldiers were getting killed by their own armament; Swords were flying towards the heart of their previous users. Heads were sent flying, the blood splattering the ground, flesh getting thrown in every direction. The ones who weren’t carrying weapons were getting stabbed by the arms in their proximity.

The once great army was stomped down in one attack.

Mars was pretty proud of this spell; it was great for both war and for duels. Even Nero Augustus said how impressed he was by the efficiency of it, and as always Origin kept silent for anything that wasn’t directly linked to the great plan.

The only one left alive was the floor director; a Tatum-level wouldn’t be killed so easily, that’s what an ordinary person would say but Mars was no ordinary...

He was Michael.

The general had stopped worrying about the weapons; they had long since stopped moving, he was cautiously observing the old prisoner coming out of the staircase, he was surprised , the man that had passed the last fifty years in a gloomy cell looked like he was a young graduate coming right out of the Dynasty’s royal academy.

The powerhouse said: “So this is how we lost, you taking us by surprise”

Mars kept silent: “...”

The respected director angrily shouted: “Say something Mars! Did your stay in prison cut your tongue?”

He shouted again: “I remember you being extremely talkative back when we besieged you, you lost back then and you won’t ever be able to get out of this place!”

He was buying as much time as he could, however Mars wasn’t a fool, he ordered the hammer behind the man to hit him on the head.

And the hammer obliged, the hit was heavy, it instantly broke the general’s neck.

Just to be sure Mars sent a spear in the heart of the deceased man.

Mars said to the freshly dead with a monotone voice: “You should have kept some of your attention on the weapons.”

Mars retracted his domain and walked past the bruised body, not wanting to walk in the puddle of blood and brain matter.
