《The Book Of Cain》Chapter 4

Everything goes black. A splitting pain spasms through Cain’s head as he goes to move realising he is back in his bed. Sliding of the headset Cain released how hungry and dry mouthed he was after returning. He stumbled to the kitchen for water to sooth his through then ate all the bread in the house. A full loaf, he must have been in out for at least a full day as fresh bread is in his kitchen delivered daily by the bots.
God Damnit! Just as I was starting to forget this world was real I get sucked back in. I have to get the mask back on, I have to level up!
Cain finished off the loaf out of shear hunger as he contemplated what had just happened.
How long have I been out?
The basic supplies provided to the living were changed daily so Cain had no way of estimating his time spent immersed. Once finishing his meal he lay back in bed to reequip his headgear only to find a warning screen saying he has been force logged after 16 hours of immersion, the timer showed 3 hours and 55 minutes left before he could log back in. He was twitching, eager to get back in, pacing the room he came across the screen that contained the survey.
If I’m going to be in this world for another 4 hours, I may as well read the full survey and hopefully find out some information about where I was
The second time around the questionnaire made more sense, yet some questions left him clueless
How long did it take you to acquire the Crystal of Chance? Have the physical limits of your body improved since being immersed?
Surely this thing has an information sheet, I need to use to time to get more powerful
After rereading the survey five times over Cain realised that there was a small link at the top called “Associate guide and hand book to E.N.D.L.E.S.S”
This could be useful

The guide consisted of a lot of general information about the game, such as how to efficiently level up as well as how to craft and join guilds. The most interesting sections Cain read were how to unlock abilities and how one hour in the real world was equal to 5 hours immersed.
Abilities can be unlocked through several different ways ranging in difficulty Common abilities are unlocked through completing class specific quests Uncommon abilities can be unlocked through repetitive actions, the number of actions can vary dramatically. An example of an uncommon ability is ‘charge’ for the warrior class. This can be unlocked by being the first player in a party to engage in multi-combat 35 times. Rare and unique abilities have not yet been fully explored due to the game only being available for 3 months. There is one known way of acquiring a rare ability discovered by the necromancer class player ‘NoLife’ who obtained one by defeating a boss class monster, allowing him to ‘steal’ one of its attacks. This has yet to be replicated.
That means Marowit’s ability must have been uncommon due to one hitting all those imps! I need to get one for myself somehow… I wonder if there is any information on the thief class in here.
Cain scrolled continued to read the guide, absorbing as much information as possible as he went. He finally reached the class section.
There are four different styles of classes. Common, unique, ascended and ****** Common classes branch from the generic class routes of melee, magic and range as well as upgraded through class based quests. Though they are called ‘common’, they should not be underestimated as they can still be extremely powerful with the correct abilities. Common classes can be upgraded into a variety of specialisations including unique and ascended Unique classes are unlocked by playing the game in a unique way, the only requirement to unlock one is by not accepting a common class at the beginning. There are 18 known unique classes currently, though more are bound to be discovered. Players with the unique class can only unlock unique and ****** specialisations. Like the unique class, the ascended class is unlocked by not following the conventional route. Though one must not kill, and reach a certain amount of faith to a god before they are offered this class. It should be noted that one can engage in combat after excepted their ascended class. The most common ascended class is the Priest. The ascended class can only unlock ascended and ****** specialisations. ****** is yet to be unlocked (Note: A player/s may have unlocked this class yet has not made it public). It is known that it can be acquired early game as a players first class. It is also known that players can choose to specialise in this class. The way to do this is still unknown.

Well that shines some light on a few things, but it still doesn’t tell me what I want to know.
As Cain continued to read through mainly useless information he realised that he’d already spent 2 hours in the real world, leaving him only another 2 hours before he could be immersed once again. He had to find what he needed quick.
He finally stumbled across the specific class list. It went for pages and pages, some were extremely like others and some had very little information detailing their abilities to few players acquiring them. He finally found the thief class.
Thief: The thief class belongs to the darkness. Due to the unnatural method of acquiring the class very few stumble upon it by mistake. This means players of the thief class usually desire to play the game as a player killer or mercenary. The thief class is much like the hunter (class of light) yet instead of being able to utilise range weapons with ease, they are provided with bonus damage in sneak attacks, such as the ‘backstab’ and ‘double slash’ making player killing an efficient way to gain faith with their god, ********.
I’m starting to think I made a big mistake choosing this class… what happened to killing kings and mocking the gods! That god damn god lied to me! What should I have expected trusting ‘darkness’. I need to read up more on these gods.
There are two major groups of gods in the game. One being the gods of light, and the other the gods of darkness, though there are other gods with extremely specific requirements to follow. These rare gods are usually followed only by those who specialise in production skills such as crafting and blacksmithing. The gods of light are currently the most common god in the game, thus the bonuses given when prayed are great and more quests are available to these players. The gods of darkness provide greater benefits for ‘god given’ tasks that those of light due to the unbalance that currently exists in the game, but as more players move towards the darkness due to its rewards and unique specialisations (note: necromancer) the rewards will balance out. The lack of darkness alters currently in the game reduces the bonuses provided for praying to a god of darkness. ****** gods have small followings acquired through dedication to a certain production skill where players can gain access to hidden quest lines and areas. The alters for these gods are known to only exist in one location (Though this might be false, the game is still new and the world is yet to be fully explored) and provide the largest bonuses for players who follow these gods.
Well at least I have something going for me, if I get better bonuses I might be able to catch up to some of the top players. If this guide is up to date, then I am only 6 months behind! I need to get back into the game!
Cain noticed he only had 30 minutes to wait until the he could be immersed once again. He lay back in bed with the headgear on waiting to be taken.
