《Wastes of Terra》Chapter 1: The Mongol Horde

The tall pillar of stone and metal lay out in the field, walls and other towers surrounding it, a perfect city full of people and light behind it. In front, a sprawling field of decay; thick goopy mud bubbled, endless rolls of razor wire, and massive robotic husks. What a view, thought Quintis as he held the thick handle of the large Gatling gun, its ammo coils heating the entire room with the plasmic liquid inside.
The whole Roman army that was available to fight within this sector were called. Each viewpoint and gap in the walls and towers were filled with guns and missiles, all ready to fire upon their awaiting enemy.
"Those damn Russian scum let the Yellow-Eyes bypass their borders again, it’s our time to once again defend this city and shred those cyborg cunts! Let’s make sure their families don't get another Mane to defend them as they sleep!" Yelled the sergeant, his thick dark green cape swaying as he walked back and forth screaming.
Quintis looked back into the field of mud and death, his black helmet with green trim pressing down on his head, the gas mask and night vision goggles giving him the fear of being trapped. It had been months since the end of training and the heavy thick suit still gave him claustrophobia.
He was beginning to loosen his grip on the hands as the ammo coils kept heating, his metal gloves burning his skin underneath, but then on the corner of his vision he seen something. He looked at the movement, the night vision goggles giving him a full perspective.
“Sergeant!” Quintis yelled, gripping the handles tighter and moving his finger to the trigger, getting ready. “Yes soldier?” The sergeant responded, Quintis hearing him walking closer from behind. Quintis quickly asked, “Is that them?” It was too late, a whirling whistle sound flung through the air as a white mist streamed towards another tower. A loud explosion rang out and following it was a hundred more white streams. Men were yelling as the tower shook and the wall beside them exploded, part of its roof caving into the walkway.

“FUCKING FIRE!” Screamed the Sergeant, grabbing his semi-assault rifle and shooting at the horizon. In the moment Quintis looked, seeing a horde of metallic figures jumping over the destroyed landscape, and he fired, a line of pure light blue glowed as a line of figures exploded into shrapnel. The other towers blue lines quickly following, the plasma guns above and under him in the tower shooting aswell.
Now I know why their called Yellow-Eyes, Quintis chuckled to himself. The Mongolian horde jumping over their shredded brethren, the glowing yellow visor slowly fading out as the Mongol died.
Despite all the jokes Quintis had made to himself, he would never forget what followed that night.
