《Majority Rule》Prologue
Advertisement
The Internet hosts a variety of unusual media, including photos of cute kittens dressed in baby clothing and videos of idiots doing stupid stunts for attention.
Then, there is the media that is not appropriate for most audiences such as porn and gore. However, it is these forms of entertainment that garner the most views.
One such show appeared during the past year, airing live during the first week of every month from March to December. Sometimes the show would cut short, while other times, it would drag on to the end of the night. There never was a fixed time period for each live session.
Now people may wonder "What is this show?" and curiously attend the live recordings. Some find the show disgusting, while others find it horrifying. Of course, there's a fine percentage of viewers that actually enjoy it.
The show is called "Can Anyone Beat Level 10?" - a simple name that represents the objective of the show.
It is a game show like no other and it follows one main rule - the Majority Rule. This "rule" is the main selling point of the show. Basically, decisions of the participants of the game show are determined by the viewers through Majority Rule. Which path they take...which weapons they get...are all decided by the viewers. The viewers' choices are the participants' choices...the viewers' luck is the participants' luck.
The game show is similar to most dungeon-crawling games one would find in the electronics store or in a game site online. Given what little information one could find on the Internet and from watching the live recordings last year, there was a total of ten participants at the start of the game.
Each participant would enter a typical dungeon floor, where monsters that followed the topic of the theme would randomly appear in the dungeon rooms. Treasure chests and traps were placed at different points and a boss room was located at the far end of the level. As the level increased, the dungeon rooms increased and the monsters became harder to defeat. Participants were "eliminated" with no signs of stopping.

Today marks the beginning of a new season for the game show. Last season, no one completed the game but the results were not unsatisfactory. In fact, the majority of the viewers had expressed that they wanted to see more. As both old and new viewers join the stream, they are greeted by a dark, box-shaped glass room.
Suddenly, the lights flickers on and a voice rings out.
"Welcome to "Can Anyone Beat Level 10?"! I'm your host, Mister Θ, please give a round of applause!"

But in a land ruled by mage families, no one welcomes the possibility of a dangerous new player. Fearful even of their allies, the Orellens come up with an extraordinary and deadly scheme to protect themselves. And that's not going to be easy when the Orellens have called upon dark magic to create hundreds of heirs. The boys and girls are given new bodies, new names, and even new magical talents before they are scattered across the continent. Only one among them is the real ninth, but all of them will have to grow up in a world where they are fugitives. Kalen, once fated to die, is now an Orellen heir in hiding. And he is determined to survive, even if he has to master his strange new powers to do it. The Last Orellen is a long, character-focused progression fantasy set in a vast universe about a boy's journey to become a powerful mage. Reviews are deeply appreciated. Please do not repost my work elsewhere without my written permission. What type of reader is this book for? You might enjoy The Last Orellen if you like... Clever and resourceful protagonists. Big fantasy worlds. Multiple cultures, lots of characters, many different types of magic--this story is expansive rather than closely focused on a narrow storyline. Progression fantasy that takes its time. Our main character will be progressing through magical ranks, but this is going to be a lengthy story. If you're more about the journey than the destination, this might be the book for you. [participant in the Royal Road Writathon challenge]

I will also do my best to respond back to people's comments. I will upload a picture once I figure out how to do so. The first few chapters will be pretty much what Thecode uploaded before with a few changes in order to set up the story. I will try to upload a new chapter at least once every three days.
