《Pathogen: Chrysalis of Monsters》Chapter 1. Ephemeral Awakening

I open my eyes as I erratically search around, looking for clues as I gather my thoughts.
Where am I...? Who am I...? So hungry... So cold... So... Alone...
Suddenly, a faint whisper echo in my head. “Never alone”. The words shake my very core, holding a cold grasp over my mind. It was uneven, rising and falling with every syllable as if a wild beast made its first attempt pronouncing.
I try to respond with my own words, but my vocal cords are struggling against my will. I have thought of so many words to say but managed to utter none of it. The room is so dark and silent that I could hear ringing in my ears. There’s nobody around me, I could somehow sense it but I can’t shake the feeling that there's someone... Some... Thing... A presence other than me, trying to claw its way through.
I begin to flail my arm around slowly, moving forward an inch at a time. The pitch blackness didn’t help one bit, and on my sixth step, I feel a slippery sensation beneath my feet. That alone is enough to throw my balance away and my struggle is all for nought, as I begin to fall and land on my butt.
Withholding the pain, I crawl forward using all of my limbs and I could feel something on my right hand. It was cold and hard - a metal bar that is lodged into the ground vertically.
I immediately realize that I’m imprisoned behind bars, and begin to shake the bars one by one. A compartment of the metal bars rattles from the applied force, indicating that the part could move.
Further inspection of the moving part shows that it is designed so that someone could fit through when it is opened but unfortunately, there's a locking mechanism. I try to muster my strength and pull it hard enough that I feel nothing else other than numbness in my right hand. My stomach rumbles, as I place my other hand onto it.

Must have been a while since I last ate, it feels as if there’s a hole inside my stomach.
My consciousness begins to wade as the numbness from my right side beings to take over my sense of touch, I began to fade away into the darkness.

The Legendary Class
At the height of the Age of Terror, humankind lay shattered, its few survivors scattered like dust in the wind. It is said that at the brink of extinction, the Gods intervened and blessed five champions known as “The Titans” with legendary classes. To this day, every small child dreams of obtaining a legendary class. Whether there is any truth to this ancient tale is unknown, but it is a certainty that in each generation perhaps a handful of those children will, in fact, obtain a legendary class. But, if they ever did, the Gods no longer answer prayers, and, in modern times, a legendary class is often far from a blessing.

Human in a Demon's Hide
I had recently enrolled in the military as a lowly footsoldier. Oh, before you could proceed any further, let me tell you about myself. I ain’t some patriotic soldier that’ll lay down my life for the sake of my country. Hell no! That shit is for the people with loose screws! I had only a few goals when I joined the army: March into battle, kick ass, and earn me some cash! Achieving glory on the way wouldn’t hurt. I just need the money to feed my little brother and sister. Their world is all I want to protect. The glory is for washing clean the stains that my father left on the family name. We became such a joke in the country that our mother abandoned us. I don’t know if he really did betray the country, but I don’t care. For my little siblings to suffer the same mockery and humiliation that I did is unacceptable! To protect the smiles of my only family, I would do anything. Yet, life knows to shit on you when things are just getting good. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello, author-san here! This is my first story, set up in a fantasy world. It's based on the medieval and steam era where magic is rare and alchemy is used widely used as a weapon by people. There would be lots of action, adventure, betrayal, tragedy, romance, etc. ahead. Warnings-The mc is a bit mean and foul-mouthed, introvert. There would be strong language and lots of monologue narration by the MC. The stories are fast-paced and progressing faster. The chapters update would be unstable, depending on my daily life. You would get fast updates... or slow. Also, English isn't my first language. So don't expect perfect grammar :( P.S. - I would like some constructive critique and feedback! It fills my motivation gauge and increases that rate of chapter/week. (/>3
